b. The
‘The’ is called a definite article. Definite means specific. Use ‘the’ when you are talking
about something which is already known to the listener or which has been previously mentioned,
introduced, or discussed. You can use 'the' with both singular nouns and plural nouns.
Example:
1) I have a cat. The cat is black.
2) There is a book in my backpack. The book is very heavy.
3) Do you own a bicycle? Is the bicycle blue?

We can explain the object around use demonstrative pronouns and preposition of place.
1. Demonstrative Pronouns
a. This
‘This’ refers to a single object which is located close to the speaker or can be touched by the
speaker.
Example:
1) This is a ruler.
2) This is my mother.
b. That
‘That’ refers to a single object which is located far from the speaker.
Example:
1) That is your bicycle.
2) That is his bag.

‘These’ is the plural form of ‘this’. ‘These’ refers to plural objects, which are near the speaker.
Example:
1) These are her pants.
2) These are her luggages.
d. Those
Those’ is the plural form of ‘that’. ‘Those’ refers to plural objects; which are located some
distance from the speaker.
Example:
1) Those are his motorcycles.
2) Those are her cakes.
2. Preposition of Place

a. On
‘On’ means that is something is in a position that is physically touched, covered, or attached to
something else.
b. In
‘In’ has a similar meaning to ‘on’, the object is within or inside something.
c. Beside
‘Beside’ has the same meaning with ‘next to’. It usually refers to a thing (or a person) that is at
the side of another.
d. In front of
‘In front of’ means a place or position directly before anything.
e. Between
‘Between’ normally refers to something in the middle of two objects.
f. Below
‘Below’ has a similar meaning to ‘under’. They means in lower position or underneath something.
g. Opposite/ Across
‘Across’ means on the other side of something; or from one side to the other of something, which
has sides or limits.
