Background

For over 30 years, Somchai and Pimporn Roungrachatawanich have been working on
ancestor derived over three generations in long history. This valuable handicraft is the
knowledge which reflects Iu Mien way of life. Silver is considered to be precious purify which
could be used as money and ornament. Moreover, local people use silver for healing as they

believe silver could absorb toxin out of a body.

Silver handicraft is used as a bride price for Iu Mien’s wedding couple. Senior relatives of
the gloom would prepare a silver bracelet for their son since childhood to be proposed as
marriage price in the wedding to show his beloved bride true love. Furthermore, Iu Mien folk
regular seek and collect silver handicrafts as money and as well to present the well-being of a
family. Therefore, they prefer wearing pure silver as their accessories. This beautiful cultural

heritage of Iu Mien folk has been long boned together as their identity since the past.

In 1984, the development of silver handicraft procedures which Somchai and Pimporn
Roungrachatawanich have been mastering from their Iu Mien ancestors has begun. They
developed silver handicrafts for sale to earn their living and kept designing to flourish their
products. This had increased the popularity of silver handicrafts that they finally founded Doi
Silver Factory Co., Ltd. In 1913 to promote reliable for the international area. They imported

brand-new instruments for productions to create more exquisite silver handicrafts in
accordance to their ideal “Doi Silver devoted every steps of production and dedicated to every

detail to create elegant pieces of work”.
