Coordinator of Intramurals Sports

Job Description:
The Coordinator of Intramural Sports reports directly to the Director of Student Life and
Recreation and is a member of the professional staff that develops, administers, and delivers a
broad array of programs and services designed to enhance the learning experiences of a diverse
student population. The responsibilities encompass a wide variety of administrative and
supervisory duties including management of budget, personnel, trainings, risk management,
policies and procedures, marketing & promotions, programming and strategic planning, and
assessment. Adams State College is a Hispanic serving institution.
Responsibilities:
Administration of Intramural Sports Program – Organize and manage the men's, women's
and co-recreational program, including fall, spring, and summer term structured
activities, emphasizing diversity in both sport offerings and levels of competition. Create
an environment that educates and promotes sportsmanship and participation in
recreational activities, in addition to providing a program in which risks are minimized.
Work closely with other departmental personnel, the Athletics Department, and Events
Coordinator in regards to scheduling, supervision, and facility guidelines. Develop and
revise program events, tournaments and leagues to provide an inclusive program for all
Adams State students, as well as faculty/staff.
Develop excellent customer relations by educating and communicating with participants,
staff and officials. Implement efficient ways, including email, communication via IM
Leagues, phone calls and printed material, to communicate with participants and student
employees. Assist in developing and maintaining the Intramural web page and IM
League web resource that will include updated schedules (participant and employee),
standings and rules.
Develop and revise intramural sport rules to remain current with new rules, rule
applications and officiating mechanics.
Implement an effective written safety/risk management plan and procedures for
emergency care for participants; schedule training/certification classes in First Aid/CPR
training for appropriate student employees.
Supervision – Recruit, hire, train, schedule, supervise and evaluate student employees
including graduate assistants, student managers, and referees. Assist in conducting
training clinics for all team sports. Maintain a written evaluation process for all student
managers and referees. Prepare training manuals/material, operating manuals, and
conduct staff meetings and training. Assist and mentor student employees regarding
professional development opportunities. Create methods to help retain and motivate
student employees.
Budget Management and Planning – Assist the Director in periodically updating the
departmental strategic plan and assessment plan, preparing annual reports and annual
action plans, preparing and managing annual budgets, and developing and implementing
assessment activities. Continuously seek ways to directly connect departmental plans to
current Adams State priorities including recruitment and retention.
Special Events/Extramurals – Collaborate with the Coordinator of Recreational Facilities
and other Adams State departments to develop and propose campus-wide special events
and activities emphasizing innovative and non-competitive events that promote leisure
involvement. Identify target groups with whom special programs may be co-sponsored.
Actively seek new creative opportunities to partner with academic entities and enhance
student learning and student satisfaction. Oversee Adams State student participation in
any extramural events.
Publicity and Marketing – Assist in developing and maintaining a comprehensive
publicity and marketing plan including, but not limited to, Facebook pages, IMLeagues,
print publications, press releases, alumni newsletters, participation in admissions
recruitment activities, and a presence on the campus cable channel.
General Responsibilities – Attend in-service education sessions and other Student Affairs
or departmental meetings. Serve on Adams State and department committees as needed.
Participate in other Division of Student Affairs initiatives/programs as required. Seek
opportunities with other Adams State departments (especially within Student Affairs) to
offer co-sponsored programs and events. Supervise various evening and weekend
activities as needed.
• Assists with other duties as assigned by the Director of Student Life and Recreation.
Qualifications:
Undergraduate degree required; Minimum of two years experience related to sport, recreation
and/or event management including programming and instruction; knowledge of various sports
including equipment used, safety, liability, and activity rules.
Experience in the use of online program management software (IMLeagues.com).
Experience in the use of Facebook.
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Understanding of facility characteristics, policies and procedures, decision making skills;
supervisory experience- strongly preferred one year experience in disciplinary action.
Ability to develop effective working relationships with campus group users and with
diverse community clientele.
Experience in customer service and problem solving experience required.
Ability to schedule facilities and maintain effective working relationships.
Experience coordinating and organizing recreational sports based projects.
Preferred Qualifications:
Masters preferred in related fields such as Human Performance and Physical Education, or Sport
Recreation Management.
Salary and Benefits:
$23,000 - $27,000. Adams State College offers a competitive benefits program.
