established a nationally recognized vaccination delivery
program, pharmacists have been trained in the
administration and teaching of vaccines (APhA).
Pharmacists may now administer vaccines in all 50 states

reality, most people choose to be vaccinated at
pharmacies since it is more convenient. The widespread
presence of pharmacists in both urban and rural areas
enables rapid and simple access to health care

also vaccination experts. Because pharmacists are
accessible and available, patients may get vaccines when
it is most convenient for them.

UNEXPECTED
by Alyssa Reese Lantaca best thing

It seems overwhelming that the world expects big decisions from a teenager. With so little wisdom about the world, I was faced
with a dilemma - how do I know I’m making the right choice?

Picking a college course can be tough. You need to think about what you want to study, how you want to do it and where, while
also considering the best path towards your chosen career. There are times where you have total freedom to choose whatever
career you want. There are also situations where your parents choose for you. But there are other cases, wherein you don’t know
what you want, and you somehow arrive to a destination you didn’t intend to land on. The latter best describe my situation.

Being an indecisive person, I hadn’t seriously thought about the college course I was going to take. Although I was interested in
the medical field, I originally had no intentions on taking pharmacy as my college course. However, due to certain circumstances,
I landed in the pharmacy department. I was extremely anxious and having doubts whether I should continue or not since I was
having a hard time with the subjects, especially with chemistry and calculation.

During our Introduction to Health Care subject, we were tasked to interview different types of pharmacists. Since hospital
pharmacy is the only type available in my hometown, I interviewed one. When I first arrived at the hospital, my heart was racing
and my hands were so cold. I was so nervous because aside from the fact that I have anxiety, it was my first time seeing hospital
pharmacists, let alone talk to them.

As I entered the room, they were so kind and very professional. Luckily, it was their free
time, so we started with the interview. I learned that hospital pharmacists carry out a
number of unique activities such as unit dose drug distribution system, repackaging, floor
stock, and an IV admixture/ TPN service. I asked the interviewee about what makes his
work fun, to which he replied, “When you reach this age, work becomes very fun, at least for
me. This is mainly because of my workmates - we laugh and talk a lot. Being a hospital
pharmacist is also not stressful because work hours are flexible. If you have an important
event to attend to, you can call your other workmates if they’re available so someone can
substitute for you. The salary is also good, especially since I am still single.”

In hearing his answers, I realized that my fears are all inside my head -
that I made my course scary because I made it to be that way. After the
interview, I started seeing things in a different light. The advantages now
outweigh the disadvantages. After some time, I realized that pharmacy is
my most preferred pre-medical course before continuing my education in
medicine. Pharmacists have an upper hand, in a way that they are able to
understand the language of medications and drugs. Thus, I think that
having pharmacy as my pre-med course is very convenient to becoming a
medical doctor since I can diagnose patients and dispense medication to
them at the same time.

Choosing a college course is really a hard decision to make. Your future
depends on it and the decision you will make would determine what life
you will have in the future. My course may not be to my liking at first, but
I gave it a try - a chance - and now, I am starting to like it. So from the
start, you should pick the right one and you should make up your mind
that this is the course for you - this will lead you to success.

pharmacy is hard. Barely passing the tests and exams paved the
thought that enrolling in this program might be a wrong
decision, or even a sign to shift to another course. But, was
there an achievement attained so effortlessly? There’s
nothing in this world that is gained through an easy process.
Consequently, regardless of the difficulties encountered as a
pharmacy student, I continued to study hard.

My view of pharmacy was further broadened. There was a
moment wherein the roles of pharmacists were discussed in
our Introduction to Health Care class, and one of those is the
responsibility to counsel the patients. We are able to
experience that in our activity wherein we met patients that
need certain drugs for their illnesses. It was such a
remarkable experience because, even with my limited
capabilities, I was able to assist them. Unfortunate it may
sound, some professional pharmacists dispense drugs without
providing and asking for information from the patients. I
believe such practice should be discouraged and counseling
must be performed. Otherwise, undesired consequences such
as medication errors might occur. Essentially, anyone in the
medical field must know that one of the objectives is to
improve the patients’ health; thus, one must know how to
exercise efforts.
