FROM OUR LEAD PASTOR

Looking back at the last 2 years is sobering. And looking at the coming year is difficult if only
because of just how much upheaval our society has experienced.

What I know for sure is that the last 2 years have revealed that much about our culture is
unsteady. The fear of death has revealed so very many people to be shaken to their core.

And yet Jesus is the Rock of our Salvation. He is steadfast, and His Word promises that in His
victorious love and power, we are immovable. 1 Corinthians 15:58: “Therefore, my beloved
brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in
the Lord your labor is not in vain.”

Our culture is receding into privacy and isolation. With the technological revolution that’s
sweeping our generation, you can now conduct your education, your career, your shopping,
your medical consultations, your banking, your workouts and even your religion in the privacy of
your own cocoon in front of your own screen. To be an effective, (even apparently) successful
contemporary American, you do not need to personally engage with almost anyone and these
assumptions are everywhere.

How is this affecting people all around us? We have learned that many are fatigued (from
constant conflict, frustration over public health concerns, and restrictions or mass disruption of
their way of life). Many are scared (fear and anxiety may be at all-time highs). And many have
been shaken about their involvement in the Church.

Against all of these trends – however discouraging they may seem – Jesus stands in stark
contrast. He is never tiring, the Prince of absolute peace, victorious over death, and utterly
unfazed.

Whatever our culture thinks is necessary, God’s Word calls us to “encourage one another daily,”
“make disciples,” not to “forsake the assembling of ourselves together,” and to “be doers of the
word, and not hearers only.”

I like the term engagement. Engagement implies commitment (as in engaged to be married).
Engagement implies activity (vs. simple passive listening). And engagement implies life or
death struggle (battles are regularly termed engagements).

So in this unsteady time, Jesus is worthy and your engagement is needed. I expect 2022 to
cost us more of our time, heart and treasure than any year I’ve ever known. Our greatest
opportunity remains simply to lead people to Jesus. THAT is our over-riding goal. To that end, I
remain thankful for your willingness to be part of this church.

Gratefully - Tim Rice
Lead Pastor & Director of Church Planting

PRAY FOR WHAT IS NEXT

Pastoral Intern Jonah Heerdt.
Remember Stan McMahan? The Pastoral Intern position was his first
job at Trinity. We brought back the very part-time position to add to
the church planting pipeline. He is growing in skill and community as
he serves in various Trinity ministries.

Our search for a church planting apprentice.
Pray that God would provide workers for the harvest.

Development of our shepherding and Community Group Ministry
plan.
TimO Strawbridge, along with other elders, are studying the need and
solutions.

Strategic plan.
A work that is needed, from how we organize our leadership to what
we do as a ministry. Pray that the elders would seek God as they lead.
