FROM OUR LEAD PASTOR

Henry Blackaby, in his study Experiencing God, said, “Rather than focusing on what our church is
doing for us, we ought to be asking what God is seeking to do in our church through us… We don't
choose what we will do for God; He invites us to join Him where He wants to involve us.” In short,
Blackaby taught that we should not be merely asking God to work where we are when we can
actually identify where He is at work. Instead, we should join Him there.
God’s Word is clear that the changing of a fallen human heart is His work alone. So whenever
someone comes to Christ, God did that. And however someone is turning from a selfish way of
living toward the love of Jesus, that is God at work.
Consider a stark contrast. The most experienced researchers are seeing a clear national trend. The
younger you are, the less spiritually engaged or church-involved you are. So if you’re under 18, way
less than 10% of your peers are church-affiliated.
Yet at Trinity, we are seeing a vibrant growth precisely in this age range! Praise God, we are
seeing Him work to save and redeem scores of students at Trinity, from middle school through
college. So if the national picture is bleak, the local story is an amazing testimony that God is at
work.
So, like Henry Blackaby asked, what does it look like to join God there?
Let’s be humble: As we clarify our ministry plans for the coming year, we want to be humble and
reflective about how we live and work. God’s Word calls us give thought to our steps (Proverbs
4:26, 14:15). What is God doing? And how can we clearly discern what it would mean for us to join
Him in His good work?
The profound shifts in our surrounding culture require us to re-evaluate how we work so that we
can wisely answer with faithfulness. I do not mean changing our beliefs, mission or values. I’m only
referring to what it could mean to wisely adjust how we work out, think out, and live out our beliefs
— as a team, as a community of Grace, as God’s own family.
Relationships: Clearly, across all our ministries we need to emphasize, or even recover, Gospel-
based relationships. The smart phone and mobile technologies are revolutionizing our culture,
including how people view their spiritual formation. Increasingly spirituality is being defined, sought
and expressed primarily in terms of “content” in spite of relationship and often to the outright
denial of need for any real relationship. But we believe that God has hardwired into our design
that relationships are holy — they are incomparable. Literally no thing can replace people or supply
what they provide — in love and community.
The Rising Generation: Also, considering strategic priorities in our current vision, few concerns
matter more than the work to develop the rising generation. Psalm 145:4 says that one generation
will commend God’s works to another, and declare what He has done.
Please prayerfully survey your landscape and ask, “LORD, please help me see where You are at
work, and then give me Grace to joyfully join You there.”
Gratefully - Tim Rice
Lead Pastor & Director of Church Planting

PRAY FOR WHAT IS NEXT

Our search for a Director of Community Groups.
Pray that Shawn Jones and the hiring team are fruitful in finding the
right person for this critical position.

Our continued search for a Church Planting Apprentice.
Pray that God would provide workers for the harvest.

Our investment in Students, Campus Outreach and Women.
All of these are about our future. Pray for conversions, growth in our
discipleship groups and changed lives.

Capacity and Community.
Pray for opportunities to invite - both to corporate worship as we
return to two services January 22 and to community groups. Pray for
new leaders/community groups to make room for those waiting to
join one.

Leadership
Please pray for our elders as they adjust to a new structure of
shepherding teaching and oversight. Ask the Spirit to help them to be
faithful and fruitful in the areas of their gifting and responsibility
