Jump Rope for Heart

Congratulations to all the students who participated in Jump Rope Finally, I would like to thank Miss Kim Thom and Mrs Brooke

beginning the program. Keep jumping rope!

We were aiming to raise $500 for sick hearts, instead raising
a whopping $2560, AMAZING! Thank you to the community
members and parents for contributing to this great cause, it is
very much appreciated. Jump Rope prizes for those students
who raised exceptional amounts of money are on their way and
will be presented at assembly. A special mention to Bailey and
Addison Hucker who raised our initial goal amount of $500
single-handedly together. Well done.

Coming from a small rural town, St. Arnaud, I could see
similarities in terms of the importance of sport in the community.
It wasn’t long before I was playing squash or rather running
around chasing strategically placed balls and returning them as
the tennis/badminton player I was, straight back over the red line!
My fondest memories are playing netball for Wickliffe/Lake Bolac.
I loved having the opportunity to play beside work colleagues
like Jacqui Coleman and Kirsty Coglan and playing against staff
like Meg Driscoll and Cate Lewis and playing with and against
students and parents and being coached by Pam McInnes.
Through the netball/football club I became a committee member
that planned the B and S Ball. This gave me the opportunity to see
the function from the fundraiser side and how well the community
worked together to raise money for their sporting associations.

I was the stage manager (person telling actors to get ready to go
on stage) of the school musical Pirates of Penzance which was
directed by Meg Driscoll. Alan McInnes was the lead singer and
lost his voice so Meg stepped in and sang his lines when he was
unable to.

things music. He was the first person in my life to really inspire
me to take music seriously – this set me off on a path, from Year 1997 Year 12

later. A momentum to his incredible influence on me. When I got
to the senior years, the school tried to support me by hiring a
music teacher so I could complete music by VCE, but sadly, the
teacher employed to take me for Year 11 music only lasted a few
weeks, and then a new teacher was hired for the start of my Year
12, and he also only lasted a few weeks. Despite this, the school
was great in supporting me to do VCE music by correspondence,
and as a result of the disadvantages I faced in doing senior school
music, I was very lucky to receive a full scholarship to complete
two degrees at the University of Melbourne – a Bachelor of Music
and a Bachelor of Teaching.

In my last three years of high school, I have fond memories of
playing guitar in a band with 3 other students – we performed at a
range of events in the sporting complex, the town hall, and various
other events and parties. This was definitely the highlight of my
time growing up. I then spent my 20s trying to make it in the music
industry – in a band, as a venue promoter, as a band manager,
agent and running my own record label for a decade. In the end,
I broke even money wise, but never ‘made it’!
