“Our only hope for collective liberation is a politics of deep solidarity rooted in Love. In recent days, we’ve seen what it looks like when people of all races, ethnicities, genders and backgrounds rise up together, standing in solidarity for justice; protesting and marching and singing together, even as SWAT teams and tanks roll in. We’ve seen our faces in another American mirror — a reflection of the best of who we are and what we can become. These images may not have dominated the mass media coverage, but we have all glimpsed in a foggy mirror scenes of a potentially beautiful, latently courageous nation struggling to be bornanew … In essence, shit is getting real, my Friends. We’re either heading towardsclimate crisis, mass species extinctions, resource wars, and entrenched fascist authoritarianism – OR we’re going to create the sustainable, regenerative, inclusive, utopian society of our dreams. Call me a hopeless optimist, but I think we’re going to turn things around just in the nick of time. I believe in our innate Goodness. I believe in our creativity & intelligence. I believe in the compassion we all feel for one another & I believe we all see the senselessness of the divisions & hierarchies we are allowing our supposed leaders to create. We’re so NOT stuck, and we so CAN turn this thing around … And it’s all on us, of course. We’re at the precipice of the darkest void & yet we can still manage that great U-turn. We are the generation that is either going to stay on track towards self-destruction & force our children to pay the price for our selfishness, or shift gears entirely & change everything along with it … So it's time we all asked ourselves: Am I adding to the destruction, or the healing? Which path are you walking with your daily choices? Will you be proud, or ashamed looking back decades from now? The solution on a personal level is so simple: Treat others theway you’d want to be treated … Go Vegan … Stop using using single-use plastics… Stop taking needless plane flights … Stop paying taxes that are being used to fund illegal wars abroad … Stop buying shit you don’t need … Live mindfully & purposefully … Essentially, start caring deeply about the impact every choice youmake has on the planet and the humans & nonhumans we share it with.
