BEAUTILLION 2021

In 1968, Jack and Jill sought to further emphasize its commitment to community and created a 501c3
entity chartered in the state of Illinois, the purpose being to support programs that not only create
opportunities for youth to learn and practice leadership skills, but also build character. Each year the
Jack and Jill of America Foundation financially supports efforts such as Big Brothers Big Sisters, Boys
and Girls Clubs of America and programs for at-risk youths in addition to a National College Scholarship
Award administered by the United Negro College Fund.

At the local level, the Jack and Jill Foundation - Dallas, supports community efforts via funds raised and
donated through our Annual Beautillion. Over the years the chapter has made contributions to the

On behalf of the Dallas Chapter of Jack and Jill of
America, Inc., I welcome you to our 44th Annual
Beautillion themed: Continuing a Dream, Creating a
Legacy. Under the dynamic leadership of Chairs
Deseri Kelley and Marsha Price, these magnificent
college bound young men will have completed their
Beautillion Journey culminating with this afternoon’s
festivities.

The Jack and Jill Scholarship Beautillion and
Community Benefit was formed in 1977 with the
purpose of promoting high self-esteem and
standards, strong morals and values, continuous
education, refined social skills, respect, service and
friendship among young men in their senior year of high school. Through this
experience, our goal is for each participant to improve leadership skills such as
problem-solving and critical thinking, meet community and business leaders and
understand their success strategies, learn financial management, gain
understanding of current social issues that can impact their future and build life-
long friendships with other outstanding young men.

To the Beautillion Committee, your commitment and unwavering determination to
ensure the success of this endeavor was without reproach. Dallas Chapter members
and community supporters, your dedication to this work has been stupendous. To
the Beaux and Belles as well as their parents, we thank you for your dedication and
commitment to excellence. It is our sincere desire that we have touched their lives

as they have touched ours. Wishing you all continued success in your future
endeavors.

JUDGE KIM COOKS

255TH DISTRICT COURT
DALLAS COUNTY, TEXAS

April 4, 2021
Greetings 2021 Beautillion Attendees:
It is with great pleasure that I personally extend my Congratulations to the Dallas Chapter of
Jack and Jill of America, Inc. on their 44th Annual Scholarship Beautillion.
This year’s Beautillion theme “Continuing a Dream, Creating a Legacy”, encourages all of the
African- American young men to be proud of who they are and to have integrity as they carry
out their dreams through life with dignified grace, knowing that they are creating a Legacy. In
life sometimes people find themselves conforming to what society thinks that they should be or
how they should act. When you know who you are, you can remain “Unbought and Unbossed”
in creating your legacy. Always put God first and allow him to order your steps towards your
dreams.
Jack and Jill has long been a Mother’s Organization that has helped shape and mold young
people by exposing them to cultural, social, civic, political, and community service activities that
prepare them to be a well rounded, successful leader in life. These young people are taught to
exercise their right to vote. Their vote is their voice. If they want to see change, they need to be
the change that they want to see.
I am proud to say that I am a member of the Dallas Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Inc. I
acknowledge the journeys all of the young men have taken to get to their level of achievement. I
believe in this organization because I too have a passion for uplifting the lives of young people.
Thus, I salute each and every one of the Beaus and look forward to seeing the future leaders that
they will become. Be blessed in pursuing your dreams!
Sincerely,

Kim Cooks

PRESIDING JUDGE
95TH JUDICIAL DISTRICT COURT

May 2, 2021

To Participants and Friends of the Jack and Jill Beautillion:

On behalf of my colleagues in the State of Texas Judiciary and all of the wonderful people
employed by Dallas County, I would like to extend a special welcome to family and friends for
this year’s 44th Annual Scholarship Beautillion. The Dallas Chapter of Jack and Jill of America,
Inc., to which I am a proud member, should be applauded for their continued efforts in the most
challenging of times, to acknowledge the meaningful and positive contributions of our African
American young men despite the dire statistics they face and those depicted in the media.

This year’s theme, “Continuing a Dream. Creating a Legacy” is only fitting for this group of
young men, presented with unprecedented challenges, pivoting to virtual school platforms for
most of their senior year, modified sports schedules, navigating college admissions and decisions
all while in the midst of a worldwide pandemic. Their resilience and determination to raise the
bar and lead by example is to be applauded. Congratulations to the members of the Dallas
Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Inc. for honoring the commitments of these dynamic young
men and for their hard work and efforts in putting together a fabulous socially responsible event.
I look forward to seeing the fruits of their labor for years to come. Members of this year’s
beautillion core, I am certain are destined to become future leaders not only here in Dallas-Ft.
Worth but far beyond.

Best wishes again for a successful event.

Sincerely,

Monica McCoy Purdy 11

BEAUTILLION 2021

Beautillion Overview

We greatly appreciate the support of the Dallas community as we honor the
accomplishments and embrace the future success of the best and brightest
young men in our community as they complete their senior year of high school.
Jack and Jill of America, Inc. is a national not-for-profit membership organization
of mothers dedicated to nurturing future leaders by supporting children through
leadership development, volunteer service, philanthropic giving and civic duty.
The Dallas Chapter of this national organization carries this mission forward to
make a difference in the lives of Dallas children. We are inspired and guided by
our national theme “The Power To Make A Difference For All Children On Mission
On Purpose”.
The Jack and Jill Beautillion and Community Benefit was formed in 1977 with the
purpose of promoting high self-esteem and standards, strong morals and values,
continuous education, refined social skills, respect, service and friendship among
young men in their senior year of high school. Through this experience, our goal
is for each participant to improve leadership skills in the areas of problem-solving
and critical thinking, meet community and business leaders and understand their
success strategies, learn financial management, and gain an understanding of
social issues that impact their future and build life-long friendships with other
outstanding young men.
During the process, the young men and women participate in a Leadership
Development Conference. The series of workshops and activities expose the
participants to top leaders in their field in the city of Dallas.
The Beautillion also supports participants by providing an opportunity to receive
awards for college expenses. Additionally, proceeds benefit deserving Dallas non-
profit organizations and the Jack and Jill of America Foundation.
We are honored to have celebrated the Beautillion in the Dallas community for
44 years and look forward to more years of celebration.

CHAPTER 13

BEAUTILLION 2021

Chapter History

the beginning

The history of the Dallas Chapter of Jack and Jill is special and unique in that the charter
members of the Chapter joined forces ten years earlier to form The Child Study Club
before it became an affiliate of Jack and Jill of America, Inc., in 1953. Mrs. Blanche Davis
conceived and initiated the idea of The Child Study Club with twelve members and with
Mrs. Davis serving as the charter president. Originally the club consisted of mothers of
pre-school children who aimed through study to learn more about their children and
the role parents play in the development of the whole child. Often fathers and mothers
attended meetings together to hear expert consultants when the discussion was vital to
both of them. Fathers, mothers, and children joined for Family Christmas parties, Family
Easter Egg rolls and picnics.

Charter Members

Helen Beckett, Wynona Combs, Blanche Davis, Ella Lois Hudson, Ollie Lee Mason, Hazel
Partee, Winifred Rhodes, Anita Smith, Mildred Thomas, Mary Sue Bush, Wilene Dade,
Sandye Gee, Nadine Long, Gussie Montgomery, D’artis Purity, Dorothy Rhone, Nadine
Stanfield, Willie Faye Wilson

GROWTH

Various age groups began to have diverse interests, the children were grouped by ages.
The club’s membership grew, and the name changed to The Crib to College Club. In 1952,
one of the members, Mrs. Nadine
Stanfield, informed the members of
similarity of aims, ideals and activities
of the club with those of Jack and Jill
of America, Inc. The Crib to College
Club applied for membership and
received its’ charter October 1953. Dr.
Albert B. Turner, National President
installed eighteen charter members
into the Dallas Chapter of Jack and
Jill of America, Inc. with Mrs. Winfred
Rhodes as charter president. The
horizon of the former Crib to College
Club widened and the Dallas Chapter
of Jack and Jill of America, Inc. stepped into that widened horizon to join hands with
mothers throughout the United States in supporting the aims and objectives of Jack and
Jill of America, Inc. In January 1980, the Chapter organized an Associates section with Mrs.
Barbara James serving as chairperson with a roster of ten. The Dallas Associates presently
have a membership of more than 88 ladies and Ms. Oscar Faye Williams serves as chair.
