GEEC FORUM SCRIPT
Moderator: assalammualaikum and a very good morning, welcome to our forum organised by
Institut Pendidikan Guru.We are blessed to be gather here today to witness a forum about
coronavirus disease outbreak. We will be discussing about the rights, roles and responsibilities of
teachers and students.First of all,I would like to thank everyone for being here today. Before the
forum begins,I would like to introduce you to our dedicated panelists. In here,we have the
representative of teacher,student and parents.
Moderator:The first panelist is a teacher from Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Bandar Baru Uda,the
second panelist is a student from Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Bandar Baru Uda and the third
panelist is a parent of the student.
Moderator:Our first panelist for today teacher adlina, how are you?
Teacher:I’m good and glad to be here this morning.
Moderator:Teacher adlina, what are your opinion regarding your rights as teacher during this
pandemic of covid-19?
Teacher:Thank you moderator for the question,I guess there are many people are wondering what
rights do teacher have during this pandemic of covid-19 is that they will be able to teach in an
orderly and cooperative environment because as an educator, teacher have many changes to
navigate due to coronavirus.School might be shifting between online and in-person learning.Other
than that, teacher might be adapting to new schedules and different ways of teaching .As for now
,teacher needs to teach the student on online learning. If the teacher is able to teach in a good
atmosphere, the teaching and learning can run smoothly.Students also can understand what the
teacher is teaching about.Next, teacher also have the rights to be informed regarding the issues of
covid-19 from reliable sources such as UNICEF and WHO,as well as the health authorities in our own
country. Teachers need to be protected from transmission of COVID-19 in the community to keep
schools open. Teachers are therefore encouraged, and should be prioritized, to get vaccinated
against COVID-19 once frontline health personnel and high-risk populations are vaccinated. Though
vaccination against COVID-19 should not be a requirement for school reopening and in-person
learning, COVID-19 vaccines are safe, effective tools for preventing severe illness and death from
COVID-19.
Moderator:Thank you teacher adlina, thanks to u, we are be able to know what rights a teacher can
get from this pandemic.
Moderator:Next,I would like to ask the student,Syazana as our second panelist for today.Syazana,
would you like to share with us about your opinion regarding your rights as a student during this
pandemic of covid-19?
Syazana:Thank you moderator, first of all I would like to say thank you for inviting me to deliver some
benefit information on our forum today. In my opinion about student right is students should follow
the SOPs that has been decided by the government. This is because the government wants to curb
the coronavirus in our country. Students should always wear their face masks in the proper way
which covers our mouth, nose and chin. The world Health organization ( WHO) have issued a
statement that masks are a mandatory measure to suppress transmission and save our lives as this
virus can be transmitted easily in air-bond. When a person coughs or sneezes, an amount of particles
and exhaled and is spread through the air. This could be transmitted to other people as well. In
order to prevent it from spreading, we have to obey the safety measurements that are fixed by the
government. Students who are schooling are not allowed to go school during this pandemic.
Therefore, they need to attend online classes that are conducted by their respective school. A lot of
platforms in social medias could be used to conduct classes such as Zoom, googlemeet, Whatsapp
and many more. Even though our country has been affected by this pandemic, it shouldn't be used
as a reason to skip class. They have to continue their studies even though they couldn go to school.
Other than that, as a student's right, they have to be vaccinated in order to reduce the number of
infected cases. They have to inform their parents to get their vaccine or explain the Importance of
getting vaccinated to their parents by reading all the information that are issued by the WHO or the
health ministry. This is to convince that there is no harm in getting vaccinated and also to make
them realize that it is one of the safety measures. There are few types of vaccines prepared by the
government. For example Pfizer, Astrazeneca, Sinovac and also Cansino. All these vaccines have
been certified by the health department and also medical experts. They have also stated that it does
not contain any negative impact towards us. As a student, we should get vaccinated to achieve the
group immunity. Parents should be aware of this COVID-19 and how risky it is. This could cause harm
to certain people such as old people, children or people that have chronic disease such as diabetes,
high blood and so on. You can also suggest then to refer various web pages that contains more
information such as WHO, KKM portal and all. A lot of information are explained in those portals.
Students should also create awareness among themselves and advice their friends about the
condition of COVID-19 in our country and how it is affecting our daily lives.
Moderator: I guess we are on the same page,Syazana. I really agree with you that we all should be
aware of how dangerous covid-19 is and the importance of getting vaccinated to prevent the covid-
19 from spreading even more.
Moderator: As the representative of parents, can u tell us your opinion regarding your rights as a
parent during this pandemic?
Parents: Thank you moderator.Assalammualaikum and a good morning to all of you,in my opinion
parents can expect that their children will be educated in a secure environment.I would expect that
my children will be educated in a secure environment in which care, courtesy and respect for the
rights of others are encouraged. I hope school's management will take the responsibility to provide a
comfortable and conducive place for students to study especially during this pandemic. Next, right of
parents can gain is ask for an excuse for their child not go to pyhsical class because some parents are
worried about the case around, are encouraged to apply for absence for my children not coming to
school. This is because,I even didn't know what will happen to my children if I ask them to go to
physical class since the cases increasing day by day. Other than that, parents have right to expect a
positive and supportive approach to their child’s learning. In this current situation, everyone needs a
positive vibe and moral support from people around them. This is because our children especially
were struggling with online classes.Online class kinda hard rather than physical class.I always see my
child doing her plenty assignment.Their mental health must be taken care and parents are supposed
to make sure their child is doing good.
Moderator:I understand what you mean madam and if i were in the same shoes as you,I would feel
the same too.
Moderator:We have listened to an amazing thoughts from our panelists. Now,we move on to the
next point of our discussion which is roles of teacher, student and parents should do during this
pandemic as roles is quite possibly the main part of human life and character.
Moderator:Teacher adlina, what is the roles of teacher during this pandemic?
Teacher:First and foremost, school teachers and personnel are critical in supporting children’s
transition back to in-person classroom learning, particularly after extended periods of school
closure. In addition to continuing to use the different skills teachers have been using to ensure their
students learning and emotional well-being while schools were closed, the following suggestions
might be helpful when schools reopen. So,what are the roles teacher should do during this
pandemic? Teacher should listen to children’s concerns. Covid-19 and school closures impacted
many children and adolescents' mental health and well-being. As teachers, it is essential to listen to
students' concerns and demonstrate understanding as well as empathy. Offer your students the
opportunity to have a one-to-one conversation with you to reconnect and discuss any concerns that
might have arisen when their school was closed. If a child shares anything that is particularly
concerning, please follow the protection or child safeguarding systems in place. The second point is
teacher should check how student are doing which Before teaching new academic content to
students, teachers and school personnel should take time to check how children are doing.
Remember that children may have difficulty concentrating at first or may need more time to get
back into the routine of learning. Provide opportunities for children to take breaks, move around,
and re-connect with their friends and peers.Provide students with accurate information around
covid-19 is one of the main roles of teacher should do during this pandemic. As children return to
school, they may have different thoughts and questions about COVID-19. Children want and need
factual information. Use child-friendly and age-appropriate resources available in your
country/region that is based on scientific evidence to respond to children's questions about COVID-
19 accurately. While it is important to acknowledge the scale of what is happening globally, make
sure to emphasize all the efforts made and precautions taken to reduce risks in the school reopening
plans. Do not forget to remind children of school safety protocols, including what to do in case there
is a COVID-19 case detected in the classroom.
Moderator:well I guess the roles of a teacher can potentially left a huge impact on the students.
Moderator:As the representative of students, would you like to share some of your thoughts about
roles of students,Syazana?
Student:Well if you ask me,students should attend classes on time and regularly during online
classes. They have to wake up early and prepare themselves to face the laptop before their class
starts. It is very important for them to maintain disciples in the classroom and understand the time
management. When you enter your class, your teacher will be motivated to teach even though
virtually. If you have any problems such as low internet or any other related problems, you may
Inform your teacher and they will understand it. Other than that, students have to be responsive
towards their teacher during the classes. If the students are facing line problems, they may on their
camera and off their mic.Students are encouraged to ask questions if they don't understand what is
being taught. Students could also refer to the notes that are prepared by their teachers through
WhatsApp, telegram, and google classroom. We can also download those notes and keep it as
reference. Next, students should complete all the tasks given to them. Most of the students would
fail to do as they think that their teachers aren't aware of it. These should finish all the given tasks
and homeworks so that they get good results in their exam. Even though classes are being taught
online, students should not procrastinate their work. And they should hand in to their teachers.
Moderator:I’m sure we can all agree to that.Other than student’s roles, how about parents roles
madam Marsya?
Parent:Of course,I strongly believe parents also have their own roles. As a mother I have to care for
my children’ needs, safety and health concerns so the first role as a parent should do is support the
school in maintaining a safe and respectful learning environment for all students. As a parent, the
fact that we could support our child so why don't we also support the school?.Rather than just
complaining, we also must support what the school did for our child's comfort. If we have more
money, we can give it to our child's school so that they can use it to improved the safety such as buy
more sanitizer, face mask for students or teachers and face shield if necessary.Controlling the child's
time in every activity. Parents also as teachers at home, which is done by controlling the child's time
and way of learning, reminding children to learn regularly, and creating a learning atmosphere
that is comfortable for my children in doing the tasks given by the teacher. We must be patient in
reminding our child because they would not take what we have told them seriously and easily forget
about it.All we must do is just keep reminding them.Parents can guide their children in learning
remotely from home.Although it is possible that in its implementation there are various obstacles
and challenges, parents are able to get through it all and carry out their roles properly. That is, even
though there are negative impacts of distance learning, positive impacts can also be felt. The
positive impact is it gives me more quality time with my child so my child and I can do activities
together.
Moderator:Dear all panelist,as we have talked about the roles of teacher, students and parents let’s
move on to the last point of our forum which is the responsibilities during covid-19? We can start of
from teacher adlina.
Teacher:Thank you again moderator. As we have known physical distancing at public, practicing
health and hand hygiene has been a daily routine in our life so it has become a responsibility of the
teacher to constantly reminding the students about sop. When it comes to physical distancing,it is
important that teachers establish some classroom ground rules as well as the protocols established
by our respective country’s Ministry of Health. So teachers need to make sure maintain a distance at
least 1 meatre, increase desk spacing, limit the mixing of classes for school and after school or
consider increasing the number of teachers,if possible,to allow for fewer students per classroom.A
key lesson learned during the pandemic is the important role teachers play in ensuring that learning
continues.Firstly, teachers are responsible to ensure that students will be able to continue their
education in a safe and healthy environment and make up for knowledge and skills that may have
been lost. As a teacher, knowing the facts will not only protect yourself but also your students. Be
aware of fake information and dangerous myths about COVID-19 circulating that are feeding fear
and stigma. Some of our students might be returning to school from households where they heard
false information about COVID-19. So teachers will need to educate them on the facts.
Understanding COVID-19, how it spreads and how we can protect ourselves and others is an
important first step in establishing classroom procedures and protocols. Students need to
understand what it is in order for them to follow the rules. Listen to their concerns and ideas and
answer their questions in an age-appropriate manner. Discuss the different reactions they may
experience and explain that these are normal reactions to an abnormal situation.I think that’s all
from me,thank you.
Student:As far as I can tell, students should keep themselves abreast of the latest issues especially
about COVID-19. They should create awareness about this diseases Among Their friend and others.
Students could follow up Their classes through various platforms through television and also google.
Various information have been issued by the government to ensure the people are safe. Get yourself
vaccinated. If there are parents who refused to take the vaccine, you can advise them by showing
the relevant information and proofs regarding the vaccine. Students could also motivate their
friends who are pressured and stress during those times by showing genuine interest and ask them
how they are doing. We could also text them or call them asking their day and be a place where they
poir their heart out. We should under Their feelings and respond them in a proper way and also
create a trust between them. Do not take their feelings as granted or joke, instead lend them ears.
Lastly, students must not skip their online classes. We should attend all the classes in order to get
good results in the exam. We might skip some important notes if we didn't attend the classes. The
information might be helpful for the test or for an assignment. Any announcements and news will be
missed if we skip our classes. If you have any commitments or problems, Don't be afraid to inform
your teacher so that you won't be considered as absent for no reason. Some reasons are also
acceptable such as low internet connection, doctor appointment and so on. All these can negatively
impact our studies as alot will be left out. If you find any alternative way to attend the class, don't
miss it. If you continue skipping your class, it would leave an impact on your exam thus affecting
your grades.
Parent:May I add my opinion as a parents? I think as a parents also have a responsibilities to be
carried out such as promote positive educational outcomes for their children.Promote positive
educational outcomes for my children by taking an active interest in my child’s educational progress
and by modelling positive behaviours. This is because we as parents must take a responsibility to
support what our children love to do.Indirectly, this will help our child excited and have passion
doing something. As we know, during this pandemic, our children have not active as before. So we
need to bring back their positive energy to ensure their child’s regular attendance. I will make sure
my children attendees are complete. This is because, every parent might be worried if their children
not joining the class either physical classes or online classes. It will make our children leave behind
rather than their friends who's joining the class. As parents, I did not want something like this
happens. It's hard to catch up something new quickly, especially during online classes.Engage in
regular and constructive communication with school staff regarding their child’s learning. Even in
this current situation that we could not meet teachers and school management because of the
pandemic. It's not a reasonable reason, because we can have a meeting through google meet, zoom
or video call.As a good parent, we must have a talk session with our children's teachers.Regarding on
that, we might know what our children have faced such as they low in mathematics subject. So as a
parent, I need to find some alternative just to make sure my child will come back to study
effectively.
Moderator:Finally we have come to the end of our forum for today where we have shared a lot of
knowledge which we don’t even know before. For the last word from me,I would like to thank again
to all our panel.See you again on the other issue.
