NEW Mixed Cases: Berries & Grapes

Minimise wastage by buying mixed cases of short shelf-life products:
• Same barcode in mixed and standard cases for simple set up (single
price point or ‘2 for £4’ promotion)
• Case mix focused on best-sellers i.e. more strawberries/fewer
raspberries:
- Mixed Berries: 6 x Strawberries / 4 x Blueberries / 2 x Raspberries
- Mixed Grapes: 5 x White Grapes / 3 x Red Grapes / 2 x Mixed Grapes

Improved Packaging

Packaging has also been reviewed, with produce items to be delivered in new
boxes (as pictured) , which stack neatly on cages, therefore minimising damages.

Case Size Reduction

• 18 short life products reduced to a minimum case size of 6 to help manage
wastage in store

• Minimum 25% POR maintained

Top Tips & Advice

Space Reallocation

With the Summer season approaching, this is the perfect time to review the ranges across produce.

It is important to review the space given to di erent products to ensure that your in-stock position is optimised,
therefore reducing the amount of replenishment you have to do during the day. A review will also maximise sales
by having weather appropriate products, and reduce wastage by removing or reducing space of slower selling
lines.

Changes for the Summer months will ensure that reduced space is allocated to vegetables, and increased space
given to salad. The amount of space given to each commodity group will depend on the size of your Produce
fixture.

A good rule of thumb for this time of year is to have space split as below:
• 1/3 Fruit (increase the amount of space given to soft fruits, especially as the British crop comes in from May)
• 1/3 Salad (includes tomatoes)
• 1/3 Vegetables

Quality Checks

• In the summer months, it’s even more important to conduct quality checks on produce.
• Put any soft fruits or short-life product into refrigeration as soon as possible.
• If you notice any deterioration of the product on delivery, then please ensure you claim

through CST as soon as possible.
• Conduct quality checks at least twice a day. If you wouldn’t buy it, then don’t sell it.

Remove poor quality product from sale.
• The quality and freshness of your produce reflects on the rest of your chilled o er.

Top Tips

• Make sure you clean the shelves regularly. Produce shelving can get dirty very quickly. Sticky
residue on shelves can attract fruit flies.

• Handle product as little as possible. Ideally merchandise product in the case it was
delivered in. Handling increases damage, which increases wastage.

• It is a legal requirement to display the country of origin (COO). Mostly this will be on the
product, but for loose, make sure you have this on display. The COO is shown on the outer case.
