There were ninety and nine that safely lay I have a Friend so precious,
In the shelter of the fold. So very dear to me,
But one was out on the hills away, He loves me with a tender love,
Far off from the gates of gold. He loves me faithfully;
Away on the mountains wild and bare. I could not live apart from Him,
Away from the tender Shepherd’s care. I love to feel Him nigh;
Away from the tender Shepherd’s care. And so we dwell together,
My Lord and I.
“Lord, Thou hast here Thy ninety and nine;
Are they not enough for Thee?” Sometimes I’m faint and weary,
But the Shepherd made answer: He knows that I am weak;
“This of Mine And as He bids me lean on Him,
Has wandered away from Me; His help I’ll gladly seek;
And although the road be rough and steep, He leads me in the path of light,
I go to the desert to find My sheep, Beneath a sunny sky;
I go to the desert to find My sheep.” And so we dwell together,
My Lord and I.
But none of the ransomed ever knew
How deep were the waters crossed; He knows how much I love Him,
Nor how dark was the night He knows I love Him well;
the Lord passed through But with what love He loveth me,
Ere He found His sheep that was lost. My tongue can never tell;
Out in the desert He heard its cry, It is an everlasting love
Sick and helpless and ready to die; In ever rich supply;
Sick and helpless and ready to die. And so we dwell together,
My Lord and I.
“Lord, whence are those blood drops all the way
That mark out the mountain’s track?” I tell Him all my sorrows,
“They were shed for one who had gone astray I tell Him all my joys,
Ere the Shepherd could bring him back.” I tell Him all that pleases me,
“Lord, whence are Thy hands so rent and torn?” I tell Him what annoys;
“They are pierced tonight by many a thorn; He tells me what I ought to do,
They are pierced tonight by many a thorn.” Hs tells me what to try;
And so we dwell together,
And all through the mountains, thunder riven My Lord and I.
And up from the rocky steep,
There arose a glad cry to the gate of Heaven, He knows how I am longing
“Rejoice! I have found My sheep!” Some weary soul to win,
And the angels echoed around the throne, And so He bids me go and speak
“Rejoice, for the Lord brings back His own! A loving word for Him;
Rejoice, for the Lord brings back His own!” He bids me tell His wondrous love,
And why He came to die;
And so we dwell together,
My Lord and I.

Earthly pleasures vainly call me; Thou Christ of burning, cleansing flame,
I would be like Jesus; Send the fire, send the fire, send the fire!
Nothing worldly shall enthrall me; Thy blood bought gift today we claim,
I would be like Jesus. Send the fire, send the fire, send the fire!
Look down and see this waiting host,
Refrain Give us the promised Holy Ghost;
Be like Jesus, this my song, We want another Pentecost,
In the home and in the throng; Send the fire, send the fire, send the fire!
Be like Jesus, all day long!
I would be like Jesus. God of Elijah, hear our cry:
Send the fire, send the fire, send the fire!
He has broken every fetter, To make us fit to live or die,
I would be like Jesus; Send the fire, send the fire, send the fire!
That my soul may serve Him better, To burn up every trace of sin,
I would be like Jesus. To bring the light and glory in,
The revolution now begin,
All the way from earth to glory, Send the fire, send the fire, send the fire!
I would be like Jesus;
Telling over and over the story, ’Tis fire we want, for fire we plead,
I would be like Jesus. Send the fire, send the fire, send the fire!
The fire will meet our every need,
That in heaven He may meet me, Send the fire, send the fire, send the fire!
I would be like Jesus; For strength to ever do the right,
That His words “Well done” For grace to conquer in the fight,
may greet me, For power to walk the world in white,
I would be like Jesus. Send the fire, send the fire, send the fire!

313 To make our weak hearts strong and brave,
Send the fire, send the fire, send the fire!
Shining for Jesus everywhere I go, To live a dying world to save,
Shining for Jesus in this world of woe; Send the fire, send the fire, send the fire!
Shining for Jesus, more like Him I grow; O see us on Thy altar lay
Shining all the time for Jesus. Our lives, our all, this very day;
To crown the offering now we pray,
Refrain Send the fire, send the fire, send the fire!
Shining all the time, shining all the time;
Shining for Jesus, beams of love divine; 315
Glorifying Him every day and hour;
Shining all the time for Jesus. Spirit of the living God
Fall fresh on me
Shining for Jesus when the way is bright; Spirit of the living God
Shining for Jesus in the darkest night; Fall fresh on me
Shining for Jesus, making burdens light; Break me, melt me, mold me fill me
Shining all the time for Jesus. Spirit of the living God Fall fresh on me

321 Go spread your trophies at His feet,
and crown Him Lord of all.
All hail the power of Jesus’ Name!
Let angels prostrate fall; Let every tribe and every tongue
Bring forth the royal diadem, before Him prostrate fall
and crown Him Lord of all. And shout in universal song
Bring forth the royal diadem, the crown Him Lord of all.
and crown Him Lord of all. And shout in universal song
the crown Him Lord of all.
Let highborn seraphs tune the lyre,
and as they tune it, fall 322
Before His face Who tunes their choir,
and crown Him Lord of all. Angels from the realms of glory,
Before His face Who tunes their choir, Wing your flight o’er all the earth;
and crown Him Lord of all. Ye who sang creation’s story
Now proclaim Messiah’s birth.

Crown Him, ye morning stars of light, Refrain
Who fixed this floating ball; Come and worship, come and worship,
Now hail the strength of Israel’s might, Worship Christ, the newborn King.
and crown Him Lord of all. Shepherds, in the field abiding,
Now hail the strength of Israel’s might, Watching o’er your flocks by night,
and crown Him Lord of all. God with us is now residing;
Yonder shines the infant light:
Crown Him, ye martyrs of your God,
who from His altar call; Sages, leave your contemplations,
Extol the Stem of Jesse’s Rod, Brighter visions beam afar;
and crown Him Lord of all. Seek the great Desire of nations;
Extol the Stem of Jesse’s Rod, Ye have seen His natal star.
and crown Him Lord of all.
Saints, before the altar bending,
Ye seed of Israel’s chosen race, Watching long in hope and fear;
ye ransomed from the fall, Suddenly the Lord, descending,
Hail Him Who saves you by His grace, In His temple shall appear.
and crown Him Lord of all.
Hail Him Who saves you by His grace, Sinners, wrung with true repentance,
and crown Him Lord of all. Doomed for guilt to endless pains,
Justice now revokes the sentence,
Hail Him, ye heirs of David’s line, Mercy calls you; break your chains.
Whom David Lord did call,
The God incarnate, Man divine, Though an Infant now we view Him,
and crown Him Lord of all, He shall fill His Father’s throne,
The God incarnate, Man divine, Gather all the nations to Him;
and crown Him Lord of all. Every knee shall then bow down:

Sinners, whose love can ne’er forget All creation, join in praising
the wormwood and the gall, God, the Father, Spirit, Son,
Go spread your trophies at His feet, Evermore your voices raising
and crown Him Lord of all. To th’eternal Three in One.

323 Our only hope is there,
We plead the merits of Thy blood;
Be silent, be silent, O! bless this hour of prayer.
A whisper is heard, Come in our midst, O gracious Lord,
Be silent, and listen, Eternal King of kings,
O treasure each word! And fold the children of the law
Beneath Thy mighty wings;
Refrain Support the weak, the mourner cheer,
Help all their cross to bear;
Tread softly, tread softly, Thou Spring of joy, Thou Source of life,
The Master is here, O! bless this hour of prayer.
Tread softly, tread softly,
He bids us draw near. 325

Be silent, be silent, O a little talk with Jesus make it
For holy this place, right, all right
This altar that echoes Little talk with Jesus make it right,
The message of grace. all right
Troubles of ev’ry kind
Be silent, be silent, Hank God I’ll always find
Breathe humbly our prayer, That little talk with Jesus make it right.
A foretaste of Eden
This moment we share. My brother, I remember when I was a sinner
lost
Be silent, be silent, I cried, “Have mercy, Jesus”
His mercy record, But still my soul was tossed
Be silent, be silent Till I heard King Jesus say,
And wait on the Lord. “Come here, I’m on the way”
And little talk with Jesus make it right.
324
Sometimes the fork lightning and muttering
Bless this hour of Prayer thunder, too
Come in our midst, O gracious Lord, Of trials and temptations
Unveil Thy smiling face, Make it hard for me and you
Distil in every waiting heart, But Jesus was a friend,
The dew of heavenly grace; He’ll keep us to the end
From earthly scenes we turn aside, And little talk with Jesus make it right.
On Thee we cast our care;
We worship in Thy holy Name; My brother and my sister, you have trials
O! bless this hour of prayer. like me
When we are trying to serve the Lord
Come in our midst, O gracious Lord, And win the victory
Thy promise we believe, Old Satan fight us hard
That bids us seek and we shall find, Our journey to retard
Ask and we shall receive; But little talk with Jesus make it right.
We gather at Thy mercy seat,

326 Blessèd be the Name!
Blessèd be the Name of the Lord!
Chief of sinners though I be, Blessèd be the Name!
Jesus shed His blood for me; Blessèd be the Name!
Died that I might live on high, Blessèd be the Name of the Lord!
Died that I might never die;
As the branch is to the vine, His Name above all names shall stand,
I am His, and He is mine. Exalted more and more,
At God the Father’s own right hand,
O the height of Jesus’ love! Where angel hosts adore.
Higher than the Heaven above;
Deeper than the deepest sea, Redeemer, Savior, Friend of man
Lasting as eternity; Once ruined by the fall,
Love that found me— Thou hast devised salvation’s plan,
wondrous thought! For Thou hast died for all.
Found me when I sought Him not!

Jesus only can impart His Name shall be the Counselor,
Balm to heal the smitten heart; The mighty Prince of Peace,
Peace that flows from sin forgiven, Of all earth’s kingdoms Conqueror,
Joy that lifts the soul to Heaven; Whose reign shall never cease.
Faith and hope to walk with God
In the way that Enoch trod. 328

Chief of sinners though I be, I have decided to follow Jesus;
Christ is all in all to me; I have decided to follow Jesus;
All my wants to Him are known, I have decided to follow Jesus;
All my sorrows are His own; No turning back, no turning back.
Safe with Him from earthly strife,
He sustains the hidden life. Though I may wonder,
I still will follow (3)
O my Savior, help afford No turning back, no turning back.
By Thy Spirit and Thy Word!
When my wayward heart would stray, The world behind me,
Keep me in the narrow way; the cross before me (3)
Grace in time of need supply No turning back, no turning back.
While I live and when I die
Though none go with me,
327 still I will follow (3)
No turning back, no turning back.
All praise to Him Who reigns above
In majesty supreme, Will you decide now
Who gave His Son for man to die, to follow Jesus? (3)
That He might man redeem! No turning back, no turning back.

Refrain
Blessèd be the Name!

329 Will we reach a hand, whatsoe’er it cost,
To reclaim a sinner lost?
Oh, the best friend to have is Jesus,
When the cares of life upon you roll; As an open book they our lives will read,
He will heal the wounded heart, To our words and acts giving daily heed;
He will strength and grace impart; Will they be attracted, or turn away
Oh, the best friend to have is Jesus. From the Man of Calvary?

Refrain 331
The best friend to have is Jesus,
The best friend to have is Jesus, There’s a church in the valley
He will help you when you fall, by the wildwood,
He will hear you when you call; No lovelier spot in the dale;
Oh, the best friend to have is Jesus. No place is so dear to my childhood,
As the little brown church in the vale.
What a friend I have found in Jesus!
Peace and comfort to my soul He brings; Refrain
Leaning on His mighty arm, Come to the church in the wildwood,
I will fear no ill nor harm; Oh, come to the church in the dale,
Oh, the best friend to have is Jesus. No spot is so dear to my childhood,
As the little brown church in the vale.
Though I pass through the night of sorrow,
And the chilly waves of Jordan roll, How sweet on a clear,
Never need I shrink nor fear, Sabbath morning,
For my Savior is so near, To list to the clear ringing bell;
Oh, the best friend to have is Jesus. Its tones so sweetly are calling,
Oh, come to the church in the vale.
When at last to our home we gather,
With the loved ones who have gone before, There, close by the church
We will sing upon the shore, in the valley,
Praising Him forevermore; Lies one that I loved so well;
Oh, the best friend to have is Jesus. She sleeps, sweetly sleeps,
’neath the willow,
330 Disturb not her rest in the vale.

Do we live so close to the Lord today, There, close by the side
Passing to and fro on life’s busy way, of that loved one,
That the world in us can a likeness see To trees where the wild flowers bloom,
To the Man of Calvary? When the farewell hymn
shall be chanted
Refrain I shall rest by her side in the tomb.
Can the world see Jesus in me?
Can the world see Jesus in you? From the church in the valley
Does your love to Him ring true, by the wildwood,
And your life and service, too? When day fades away into night,
Can the world see Jesus in you? I would fain from this spot
of my childhood
Do we love, with love to His own akin, Wing my way to the mansions of light.
All His creatures lost in the mire of sin?

Jesus so sweetly abides within; Since I have been redeemed.
There at the cross where He took me in;
Glory to His Name! 334

336 God’s way alone is right.

Love divine, all loves excelling, Touch our dull ears with healing power,
Joy of heaven to earth come down; That we the Lord may hear,
Fix in us thy humble dwelling; And in this glad, this holy hour,
All thy faithful mercies crown! May yield Him perfect fear.
Jesus, Thou art all compassion, Within us let His image grow,
Pure unbounded love Thou art; His will our wills control,
Visit us with Thy salvation; Nor other master let us know
Enter every trembling heart. Of life, or heart, or soul.

Breathe, O breathe Thy loving Spirit, Make Thou the path of duty plain,
Into every troubled breast! Nor from it let us stray;
Let us all in Thee inherit; And more may we Christ’s Spirit gain,
Let us find that second rest. In service, day by day;
Take away our bent to sinning; That we our mission may fulfill,
Alpha and Omega be; Our faithful witness give,
End of faith, as its Beginning, And seeking ever but His will,
Set our hearts at liberty. May to His glory live.

Come, Almighty to deliver, Come, Holy Spirit, come, O come!
Let us all Thy life receive; Perform Thy work of grace;
Suddenly return and never, Make our poor hearts Thine honored home,
Never more Thy temples leave. Thy chosen dwelling place.
Thee we would be always blessing, And kindle there love’s heavenly fire,
Serve Thee as Thy hosts above, A purifying flame,
Pray and praise Thee without ceasing, Consuming every wrong desire,
Glory in Thy perfect love. And purging sin’s deep shame.

Finish, then, Thy new creation; The Lord’s Prayer
Pure and spotless let us be.
Let us see Thy great salvation Our Father which art in heaven,
Perfectly restored in Thee; Hallowed be thy name.
Changed from glory into glory, Thy kingdom come.
Till in heaven we take our place, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in
Till we cast our crowns before Thee, heaven.
Lost in wonder, love, and praise. Give us this day our daily bread. And
forgive us our debts, as we forgive our
337 debtors.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver
Come, Holy Spirit, Dove divine, us from evil:
Display Thy glorious grace; For thine is the kingdom, and the power,
Unfold the truth, that it may shine, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
And show the Savior’s face.
Dark error’s cloud from us remove, Matthew 6:9-13
Which intercepts the light;
And give us wisdom still to prove

347Though the angry surges roll Before the heathen’s wondering sight,
He hath revealed His truth and right,
On my tempest driven soul, He hath revealed His truth and right.
I am peaceful, for I know,
Wildly though the winds may blow, He called to mind His truth and grace
I’ve an anchor safe and sure, In promise made to Israel’s race;
That can evermore endure. And unto earth’s remotest bound,
Refrain Glad tidings of salvation sound,
Glad tidings of salvation sound.
And it holds, my anchor holds:
Blow your wildest, then, O gale, All lands to God lift up your voice;
On my bark so small and frail; Sing praise to Him, with shouts rejoice;
By His grace I shall not fail, With voice of joy and loud acclaim,
For my anchor holds, my anchor holds. Let all unite and praise His Name,
Let all unite and praise His Name.
Mighty tides about me sweep,
Perils lurk within the deep, 349
Angry clouds o’ershade the sky,
And the tempest rises high; [Three part round]

I’ve an anchor that shall hold. God’s peace, God’s peace.

Come, let us sing unto the Lord, Oh, be careful little eyes, what you see,
New songs of praise with sweet accord; Oh, be careful little eyes, what you see,
For wonders great by Him are done; For the Father up above
His hand and arm have victory won, is looking down in love
His hand and arm have victory won. Oh, be careful little eyes, what you see,

The great salvation of our God Oh, be careful little ears, what you hear,
Is seen through all the earth abroad; Oh, be careful little hands, what you do,
Oh, be careful little feet, what you go,
Oh, be careful little tongue, what you say,

Precious Lord, take my hand, Jehovah Jireh
Lead me on, let me stand, Jehovah Jireh, my Provider
I am tired, I am weak, I am worn; His grace is sufficient for me
Through the storm, through the night, For me, for me!
Lead me on to the light: Jehovah Jireh, my Provider
Refrain His grace is sufficient for me
Take my hand, precious Lord,
Lead me home. My God shall provide all my needs
When my way grows drear, According to His riches in glory
Precious Lord, linger near, He shall give His angels
When my life is almost gone, charge over me
Hear my cry, hear my call, Jehovah Jireh cares for me
Hold my hand lest I fall: For me, for me!
Jehovah Jireh cares for me

When the darkness appears Jehovah Jireh, my Provider
And the night draws near, His grace is sufficient for me
And the day is past and gone, For me, for me!
At the river I stand, Jehovah Jireh, my Provider
Guide my feet, hold my hand: His grace is sufficient for me

352 My God shall provide all my needs
According to His riches in glory
Side by side we stand He shall give His angels
awaiting God’s command charge over me
Worshiping the saving King Jehovah Jireh cares for me
For me, for me!
Living by His grace Jehovah Jireh cares for me
and moving on in faith
Jesus Himself will see us through 354

355 Ohhh and oh,
He’s so wonderful to me!
When we gather at last over Jordan, He’s so wonderful!
And the ransomed in glory we see, And oh, He’s so wonderful
As the numberless sands of the seashore— Because He first loved me!
What a wonderful sight that will be!

Refrain Well, it tells me of whose loving heart
Can fill my deepest woe
Numberless as the sands of the seashore! Who in each sorrow bears a part
Numberless as the sands of the shore! That none can bear below
Oh, what a sight ’twill be,
When the ransomed host we see, Repeat chorus (x3)
As numberless as the sands of the seashore! Because He first loved me

When we see all the saved of the ages, 357
Who from sorrow and trials are free,
Meeting there with a heavenly greeting— 1 Shall we gather at the river,
What a wonderful sight that will be! Where bright angel feet have trod;
With its crystal tide forever
When we stand by the beautiful river, Flowing by the throne of God?
’Neath the shade of the life giving tree,
Gazing over the fair land of promise— Refrain:
What a wonderful sight that will be! Yes, we’ll gather at the river,
The beautiful, the beautiful river;
When at last we behold our Redeemer, Gather with the saints at the river
And His glory transcendent we see, That flows by the throne of God.
While as King of all kingdoms He
reigneth— 2 On the margin of the river,
What a wonderful sight that will be! Washing up its silver spray,
We will walk and worship ever,
356 All the happy golden day.

There is a Name that I love to hear 3 Ere we reach the shining river,
And I love to sing its worth Lay we ev’ry burden down;
It sounds like music in my ear Grace our spirits will deliver,
The sweetest Name on earth And provide a robe and crown.

Chorus: 4 Soon we’ll reach the shining river,
O how I love Jesus! Soon our pilgrimage will cease;
And O how I love Jesus! Soon our happy hearts will quiver
O how I love Jesus With the melody of peace.
Because He first loved me!

Well, it tells me of a Savior’s love
Who died to set me free!
It tells me of His precious blood
The sinner’s perfect plea
