Theo Constantino, Doughboy, (detail) 2015. Giclee print on aluminium.

Libraries as a gallery space

Joondalup Library – Local History
This image is one of several artworks produced by artist Theo Costantino
about the First World War and is currently on display in the Local History area
of Joondalup Library. Costantino undertook extensive research, with particular
interest in the artists own grandfather’s experience as a soldier, to reflect on
the tragedies of the war and its legacy on migrant history in Australia.
Doughboy was created using a model wearing a wax mask that’s
handmade by the artist. This artwork investigates how we commemorate
war, through the personal perspective of the artist’s family’s history.
The City of Joondalup’s Art Collection can be accessed on the City’s
website and displays are regularly rotated through the four local libraries.
