Dear Counselors, Gaveliers & parents:

This is the ninth Gavel Masters Annual contests that we are continuing since we re-invented the
wheel in 2008. Before we embarked on GMAC, inter-gavel clubs competitions were indeed
conducted some years ago. My grateful appreciation to pioneers like DTM Philip D'Mello, DTM
Jose Thomas and a few others who created this opportunity to our younger generation.

This year sixteen Gavel Clubs participate in GMAC 2017 and I have no doubt that whoever
witnessed the run-off contests on 20 October 2017 would have understood the hidden talents of
our young leaders of tomorrow. Those who are witnessing the contests today in each category will
be mesmerized with the creativity, innovation, talents and confidence of those young Gaveliers.
For me, it has become a real passion to promote the hidden talents of these youngsters and for
the past eleven long years my devotion to these clubs as Counselor has given me amazing
experience.

I feel its my duty also to record here that Gavel Club contests are not encouraged by Toastmasters
International. Gavel Clubs are only allowed to be affiliated with Toastmasters International and
operate to promote public speaking and learn leadership skills strictly using their materials and
that too by legally registering and obtaining Toastmasters International Registration certificate.
This Gavel Masters Annual Contests is a concept that emerged in the minds of a few Counselors -
TM Sunil Kumar, DTM Mathew Oommen, DTM Mohammed Salim, TM Varghese Karakkal who
bravely established Bahrain Gavel Clubs Council (BGCC), purely with the intention of promoting
public speaking and leadership skills development among our younger generation. Today, I am
really proud that from four clubs, we have grown to have 18 clubs in the Kingdom of Bahrain.

Organizing this event is not an easy task - it requires exceptional efforts, excessive energy, extra
devotion and extreme dedication. Some days, I have to spend sleepless whole night to accomplish
tasks that are to be done on time. To stage this show-case event, finance is the most vital
requirement which cannot be raised easily every year. Parents of the Gaveliers could be the best
supporters to continue this event every year. To be honest, I have firmly decided on giving up
GMAC in the future – unless we have assured financial support there is no way to conduct this
wonderful event.

Though, as BGCC Chairman, I am privileged to write this brief message, it cannot be concluded
without thanking the organizing committee team – DTM Muhammad Salim, TM Ahmed Asif, TM
Diviya Ramesh, TM Krishnaprasad, TM Viswanathan, DTM Farkhanda Syed under the Chairperson
TM Sajitha Satheesh for their relentless support to achieve today's success, I must also thank the
sponsors and well-wishers who generously contributed in cash or kind for this event. My gratitude
to all the contestants, counselors, role players and all others who are helping today. I must record
my special thanks to Bahrain Kerala Samajam for allowing the use of their halls and premises for
the run-off contests and Alba Club for offering this wonderful venue for today’s finals. Finally and
most importantly, thank you all, our wonderful audience – without you this event is nothing!! So,
sit, relax and have a great day.

As a Counselor for three Gavel Clubs namely – Sri Lankan Orators Gavel Club (SLOGC), Dar Al
Ma’Rifa Gavel Club (DAMGC) and Speak On Gavel Club (SPKONGC) I must proudly say that I
am the most privileged – to learn from three different culture, customs, traditions and
practices.

Amazingly, I have been able to get accustomed to each club and with tremendous efforts, the
members of all these three clubs have proved their skills both in leadership and public
speaking.

SLOGC, now in its 11th year. This club has produced excellent leaders. Many of the past
members have gone out of Bahrain to various countries and have excelled by taking up
challenging leadership roles and they have vouched that their achievements are mainly due to
the experience they gained in the Gavel Club. Now this club’s membership is 50 and all of
them are very new to this experience but their performances can be witnessed in this GMAC.

DAMGC – reaching its sixth year. This club is unique – entire membership is Bahrainis and I
cannot believe the amazing creativity they bring in their speeches, assignments and
leadership roles. Those who struggle to read even the timing criteria have become the best
speakers and won accolades in their schools and other social activities. You will find very
silent, shy Gaveliers in this club but when it comes to their performance, they really astonish
the audience. Its only a matter of time and I am sure they will conquer the contests both in
GMAC and other activities.

SPEAK ON GC – I must admit that I know very little about the past of this club since I took over
this club on in October 2017, from a veteran Counselor DTM Rekha Utham who had to quit
from counseling due to her professional and personal commitments. Though this club is
leaping into its second year, due to members leaving Bahrain for higher studies etc. the
consistency of membership is slightly low. Despite the transition, the club has taken a bold
step in nominating the most talented Gaveliers to take part in GMAC 2017 and I am sure they
will prove that they are not second to any Gaveliers with many years’ experience. I must place
my gratitude and appreciation to Mrs Anupam Kinger, who devotes her time passionately to
keep this club alive.

Overall, as Counselor for these three clubs, I am the most benefitting individual as I have the
luxury of learning from all these Gaveliers who are unique in their own capacities and
capabilities.

I wish you all an enjoyable GMAC 2017 and I am sure the best of the best will win!

Today, when I write this message in the designation as the Chairperson of Gavel
Masters Annual Conference 2017, I am highly elated and excited, the reason
being getting an opportunity to be part of the Toastmasters Gavel Clubs
Programs! I consider it as a rare honor, since these opportunities do not knock
at your door many a times!
Why am I excited? As I know, if Gavel clubs are the platforms that shape up a
youngster’s personality in a very friendly atmosphere, the Gavel Masters Annual
Conferences showcase their acquired skills and abilities in a highly spirited
atmosphere. When the future gen is being shaped up & presented in such an
excellent manner, isn’t it a golden privilege to be part of that ? Yes, I
acknowledge, I am excited.
In the modern world, education alone is not enough to cater to meet the
demands of a growing world, but, along with education, the youth should
develop their communication & leadership skills as well as their total
personality. Effective & productive Communication skills play a crucial role in
honing one’s personality. Individuals with these acquired skills can easily
converse with other people around be it their fellow workers, peers, family and
so on. It is important to be a good and patient listener too.
But unfortunately enough, not all people are blessed with excellent
communication skills; they acquire the same with time and practice. Official
education can’t give focus to this aspect to the extent that they really need for,
there comes, Toastmasters Gavel Clubs as a boon. In the gavel clubs, the youth
is given ample opportunities to foster their skills in a very friendly atmosphere.
The participants learn to overcome nervousness when speaking before an
audience, organize and present ideas logically and convincingly, listen
carefully to others' ideas, participate in and lead group discussion or meetings,
offer advice to help others improve their speaking and leadership skills.
Its my message today for all the parents out there …Drive differently…for better
changes !!!!! Give Today’s Youth, the Gift of Toastmasters – the Gavel clubs !
Let them grow as better leaders & communicators !

I feel proud to be part of Gavel Masters Annual Contest (GMAC 2017) where
leaders of tomorrow, our dynamic Gaveliers are pursuing their perpetual
journey of learning and are lined up to showcase their talents in an healthy
competition. As we are living in a complex world with multifarious problems,
the world is in dire need of effective leadership. It is my firm belief that our
Gavelliers, the leaders of tomorrow, can fulfill this need and make this universe
a beautiful place to live.

LOGISTICS HEAD - GMAC 2017

Future age will be age of gadgets where children will communicate through
devices but forget to talk verbally. Due to multitasking they will even forget how
to plan and organize themselves. All children have bunch of ideas and dreams
to share but unable to verbalize and put it into realization of dream. I have
found Gavel Club is the most effective place where children can create, express,
share and build their ideas and also develop speaking skills. Gavel Clubs are the
wonderful platforms to mold our child as Tomorrow’s Leader. I wish all of you to
enjoy and help us to make this event a wonderful event.

GMAC 2017 is an exciting opportunity for the gaveliers, to showcase their
acquired skills. As the Secretary of GMAC team, I wish good luck to all the
gaveliers and toastmasters who are associated with the GMAC 2017 either in
the front line or behind the curtain. Contestants, Remember.. When you dance,
your purpose is not to get to a certain place on the floor. It is to enjoy each step

Organized by a bunch of self motivated Toastmasters, it ensures high quality of
not only competence but also compliance to the standards defined and chalked

From 2004, WMC Gavel Masters is being mentored under the able guidance and 07
support from the experienced Toastmasters of WMC Toastmasters Club.
WMCGM draws strength from the relentless support and inspiration provided
by Founder Members, A.S. Jose, Dr. Babu Ramachandran and Dr. Suresh
Karunakaran and the timely assistance by the past counselors, TM Ganapathy
Narayanan and DTM Rekha Utham. Needless to mention is the effort that the
Gaveliers of our club and their parents put in to successfully run the club.
WMCGM is founded on the vision to provide a platform for budding public
speakers to experiment and innovate their ideas and skills and thereby discover
and be their true self. This year too we are proud to be part of the GMAC and

Being a Counsellor for the KCA Gavel club is one of the most gratifying
assignments that I have undertaken. It’s now two years since I am in this role. In
this short period I have seen children grow up right in front of my eyes - not just
physically but in confidence, skills and performance. When I realize that I am also
an instrument in their development that will see them being successful in their
life, it is very gratifying. I have seen timid and shy children get over their
nervousness and flourish after attending few sessions. Such kind of
transformation is possible only through gavel clubs. I wish all the very best to the
GMAC organizers.
I wish the very best to all the contestants and their parents. Let the very best

At the outset, my compliments to my colleague TM Shivaraj Shetty who joins me 08
to express the fact that KSGC has put some of its gavel members at high
performance pinnacles at a recently held non-gavel educational programme.
A member of KSGC Gavel Club won the citation: "Most likely to be at the UN" at
the mock United Nations conference held at the school demonstrating the
invaluable contribution of the gavel programme in communication and
leadership. Such an achievement proves the fruit of counsellorship and is very
heart warming to say the least.
The KSGC journey this far since 2008 speaks for itself. The children gaining
confidence and moving on is a rewarding factor that keeps fuelling counsellor's
energy to keep on going. Most parents have noted remarkable dimensions Gavel
club membership adds on to their children's academic output and beyond.
The members and Management of the Parent club, the Kannada Sangha Bahrain
are highly cognizant of the value based programme offered by the Gavel Club.

TKS SPARKLERS GAVEL CLUB is the vision and mission of TKS Toastmasters formed
under the leadership of TM Sushmita Rao in April 2013. The club with its
Sparklers is sparkling and spreading the light around. I am associated with GMAC
for the third year and saw myself how the BGCC is working selflessly to give a
platform to young talents and eventually making them strong leaders.

GMAC and Gavel Clubs help the future generation to be more confident, more

As I entered the room filled with teenagers few years back to me holding my dad’s
hand nervously, my head was flooded with thoughts, doubts, questions as to
whether I will get along with them, whether I will be able to perform well,
whether I will be able to keep up with everyone’s expectations...This was my first
day at gavel club, 8 years ago…my FIRST STEP to improving my public
communication skills, the one step that changed my life ever since.
Being a gavelier encourages and motivates a teenager by enabling them to
become a good listener, a good communicator and a good leader in life. From
giving speeches and evaluations, to performing various meeting roles and being
part of the executive committee, the gaviliers get to develop their listening,
speaking and leadership skills which are of great importance in today’s
competitive world. So dear gaveliers enjoy this fun filled journey of being a
Gavelier as this is that one journey in your life that will make sure you attain
success in all the other journeys you will come across in your life. ALL THE BEST

Having been chartered only in April 2017, they conducted club level contests and
gave opportunity to the winners to participate in the GMAC 2017. This club has

expectation. Some of the members who have not even completed six projects,
represented other Gavel Clubs contests as Test Speakers and enhanced the image
