Rebuilding Lives

The year 2020 is filled with stories of harrowing experiences and survival. The spike of the Covid-19 infected persons
remain significantly high, while typhoons seriously ravaged some parts of the country.

KABALIKAT Much realization has hit us hard on how valuable human life is. Persons infected by the
virus are reported daily, including fatalities. Families of PSMBFI members who died of Covid-19

EDITORIAL during the past months immediately received the cash advance of insurance claims.
The Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Program of PSMBFI

can be depended upon during trying times, and our immediate

response is to provide members with financial assistance in recognition to their bravery at the

frontlines.

As a way of helping members, PSMBFI launched the Pantawid Covid Program through
“Tulong Handog sa mga Miyembro: Covid19 Crisis” in March 2020. The financial assistance of
P5,000 was extended to each member.

PSMBFI President Mario A Avenido said, “In this trying times when the whole world is
struggling in fighting the pandemic of Covid-19, we at PSMBFI would like to express our gratitude
to all frontliners for their selfless service and heroic deeds in combating the spread of the virus.”

Also, three strong typhoons battered the country - Quinta, Rolly, and Ulysses. PNP personnel
affected by these typhoons received financial assistance to help repair their houses that were
damaged or submerged in floodwater.

We, as Filipinos, will always be resilient. A Japanese proverb says - “The bamboo that bends
is stronger than the oak that resists”. For as long as there are public safety practitioners taking
the active role in disaster response, providing protection, and rebuilding communities - then
PSMBFI is here to stay.

Together, let us be compassionate and help uplift the situation of our countrymen.

Families of two deceased PNPA
cadets receive insurance benefit

from PSMBFI

The Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA) provides
comprehensive education and training programs to the
country’s future leaders. To ensure that the cadets have life
insurance, information drives are regularly conducted by the
Public Safety Mutual Benefit Fund, Inc.

Last July 2, 2020, the PNPA plebes signified membership with PSMBFI at Camp
Castaneda in Silang, Cavite. It is unfortunate that two cadets died a few days after.

Cadet Fourth Class Kenneth Ross Alvarado suddenly collapsed during an evening
mess formation, and later died due to heat stroke last July 8, 2020. While Cadet Fourth
Class Jiary Jasen Papa died last July 10, 2020 due to electrolyte imbalance or hypokalemia
(low potassium intake).

The cash advance of insurance claim for their beneficiaries were immediately processed
by PSMBFI even without the first premium payment. The checks were turned-over to their
families by the PSMBFI Marketing Manager on July 11, 2020.

The importance of life insurance is realized after the death of a loved one. Though
nothing can replace the value of human life, the PSMBFI insurance benefit will at least aid
them to a new beginning.

reports, the first blast happened along Serrantes Street, Brgy
Walled City Jolo at 12:20 PM. PNP personnel responded and
assisted in the clearing operation.

In the afternoon of the same date, another explosion occurred

personnel PSSg Edmund Beltran, PSSg Regal Lupos, and
PSSg Jimbo Precillas. Inhured also were PCpt John Ryan Doceo,
PSSg Nurdimar Jakiran Majid, and PSSg Allan Ibalin of the Jolo
MPS. Being PSMBFI members, they received the Wounded-in-
Action Benefit from the Public Safety Mutual Benefit Fund, Inc.
This is a monetary benefit given to qualified uniformed members
who sustain major or minor injury during legitimate operations.

However, PSMS Joe Michael Langbis died while being treated
in the hospital due to multiple blast wounds. The cash advance of
insurance claim was received by his beneficiaries at the 5th SAB
Headquarters, Mercedes, Zamboanga City.

The Association understands the challenges which endanger
the lives of law enforcers. Through life insurance, PSMBFI is
extending support to the PNP in fighting terrorism in order to
preserve peace.
