What is a softlines product?

Softlines is a business term for retail store products consisting of textile merchandise, the term is
used to define the difference between ‘Hardline’ and ‘Softline’ goods in retail stores.
Softlines can be anything from clothing, shoes, accessories, furniture coverings, rugs, curtains, bedding
and even certain styles of lamp shades can be classed as a softline product.

The Bureau Veritas lab in Warrington is one of only a handful of UK labs which is capable of
Cashmere Identification, in fact we have some of the most experienced Fibre technologists in the
country and are able to identify almost all fibre types used in todays softlines manufacturing.

Fibre Microscopy & Quantification

Test methods include EU regulation 1007/2011, AATCC 20A and
BS EN ISO 17751 for specialty fibre quantification. Qualitative fibre
determinations can also be performed to support in fault investigation.

Analytical Testing

Our chemical testing laboratory can identify and validate the
traceability of chemicals, such as: Azo Dyes, Lead, Cadmium, Nickel,
Chomium VI, DMFu, Formaldehyde, PAHs, SCCP, PCP TeCP.

Flammability Testing

Our flammability testing services analyse materials and products for
fire-related properties such as: Ignition susceptibility, Burn rate, Flame
spread, Combustibility & Flash-over point.

Physical Testing

A range of processes to test the physical structure of fabrics,
including tensile strength, tear strength, abrasion & pilling.

Colourfastness and Fading

We offer a range of tests to determine colour fastness and fading which
cover the average life and user expectancy of the garment.

UK based testing with global standards

Our UKAS-accredited laboratory in Warrington, Cheshire, operates a comprehensive choice of testing
services for softline consumer products, including safety, quality assurance, benchmarking and
compliance.
