3 Greetings everyone, I am pleased to extend a warm welcome on behalf of the Phoenix Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi to all Kappa Leaguers, their parents, esteemed guests, and fellow Kappa brothers to the 20th Annual Kappa League Showcase. Kappa League is a specialized program that was established in 1969 as a subset of the Guide Right Program. Its primary objective is to assist young men in developing their leadership skills in every aspect of human endeavor. We, at Phoenix Alumni, have designed our Kappa League program to help young boys in grades 6th through 12th achieve their goals and become responsible members of their community. The Kappa League program is an initiative that is driven by passion and dedication. Its success is a result of the efforts of the brothers, parents, and students who have devoted their time, energy, and resources to building a strong foundation for our youth. While it's impossible to recognize everyone who contributed, I extend my heartfelt gratitude to Brother Monroe Curry for his dedicated service on our chapter's Board of Directors. Brother Curry's unwavering commitment has been instrumental in working alongside our Guide Right Director to establish a thriving program year. Additionally, I want to express my sincere appreciation to Brother Ronnie Gammage, our Guide Right Director, for his visionary leadership of the Kappa League program. His embrace of the theme "Breaking Barriers and Empowering Change" not only aligns with our program's rich history but also propels us forward into a future filled with promise and impact. Most importantly, I would like to thank the young men who participated in this year's Kappa League program. As I mention every year, my one wish for Kappa League is that every participant takes something from the program's workshops and incorporates it into their journey toward manhood. We are confident that the Kappa League program will provide young men with a solid foundation to develop their potential and make positive contributions to their community. We are excited to host this year's event and look forward to an engaging and fruitful program. Jason RICHARDSON Polemarch Phoenix Alumni Chapter Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.
4 Dear Esteemed Guests, As we gather today to celebrate the 20th Annual Arizona Guide Right Scholarship Luncheon of the Phoenix Metropolitan Kappa League, it is with immense pride and joy that I extend my warmest greetings to each and every one of you. This momentous occasion is not just a testament to the remarkable achievements of our scholars, but also a reflection of the unwavering commitment and dedication of our entire community towards nurturing the leaders of tomorrow. Reflecting on the journey of the Phoenix Metropolitan Kappa League program, I am reminded of a quote by Maya Angelou, “Success is liking yourself, liking what you do, and liking how you do it.” Over the years, we have witnessed countless young men embody this sentiment, blossoming into confident leaders, scholars, and pillars of our communities. Through mentorship, guidance, and a steadfast belief in their potential, they have not only achieved academic milestones but have also transcended barriers to soar to new heights of excellence. The highlights of our program are not solely measured in academic achievements, but also in the transformative impact our scholars have had on their communities. As Mahatma Gandhi once said, "The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others." From volunteering in local initiatives to spearheading innovative projects, our scholars have truly become beacons of light, illuminating the path for others to follow. Arizona Guide Right Director Phoenix Alumni Chapter Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. Ronnie GAMMAGE
James Weldon Johnson (1871-1938) 5 Lift Every Voice and Sing Lift every voice and sing Till earth and heaven ring, Ring with the harmonies of Liberty; Let our rejoicing rise High as the listening skies, Let it resound loud as the rolling sea. Sing a song full of the faith that the dark past has taught us, Sing a song full of the hope that the present has brought us, Facing the rising sun of our new day Begun let us march on till victory is won. Stony the road we trod, Bitter the chastening rod, Felt in the days when hope unborn had died; Yet with a steady beat, Have not our wary feet Come to the place for which our fathers sighed? We have come over a way That with tears have been watered, We have come, treading our path Through the blood of the slaughtered, Out from the gloomy past, Where the white gleam of our bright star is cast. God of our weary years God of our silent tears Thou who has by Thy might Led us into the light, Keep us forever in the path, we pray. Lest our feet stray from the places, Our God, where we met Thee, Lest, our hearts drunk with the wine Of the world, we forget Thee; Shadowed beneath Thy hand, May we forever stand. True to our GOD, True to our native land.

8 Kappa League was founded in 1969 by the Los Angeles Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., and was adopted by the Grand Chapter in 1970. Under the chairmanship of Mel Davis, the Los Angeles Alumni Chapter's Social Action Program took the form of a training activity for young men of the Alain Leroy Locke High School. Originally called the Kappa Instructional Leadership League, it was designed to help young men grow, receive, and develop their leadership talents in every phase of human endeavor. It provided both challenging and rewarding experiences, which richly enhanced their lives. Membership was open to male students from the tenth through the twelfth grades. The fraternity sought to help these young men to achieve worthy goals for themselves and to make constructive contributions to their community when leadership roles became their responsibilities. The Phoenix Guide Right program, Kappa League, is directed by Ronnie Gammage and has been expanded to include young men in grades six through twelve. It provides both challenging and rewarding experiences via mentor led, oriented activities. The members are introduced to strategizing, planning and executing ideas that are the foundation of good leadership characteristics designed to raise awareness. Strong emphasis is placed upon personal development, academic achievement, college and career preparation, community service, career-based field trips and youth leadership activities. Areas of encouragement and counsel encompass educational values, course selection, time management, goal setting, work ethics, peer group selection, career options, college requirements, personal responsibility, and the importance of a positive attitude and hard work. Our program brings together the training experience of successful men with young minority males of varying academic abilities and talents from several metropolitan Phoenix area schools, focusing on personal, academic and leadership development. Kappa League History The primary goal of the Phoenix Kappa League program is to assist young leaders in reaching their potential. In other words, how to be a successful man in today's challenging environment!
