Please do not park on the zig-zag lines outside of school coming up
I need to start off with quite a serious message. Due to our position in a Saviour’s
cul-de-sac, we have always had a problem with cars blocking the entrance to SHINE
St Saviour’s. This seems to have got worse recently and I am very concerned From Saturday 16th Shining Stars

parents be aware of the potential danger of such parking. I would ask that Friday 18th March Worship
parents try to park a short walk from the school. For instance, there is always toThursday 24th assembly
a lot of space in the Walthamstow/Kelmscott Leisure Centre – with a zebra March Every Thursday
crossing outside the Markhouse Road exit. Alternatively, there are usually Book Fair
free parking spaces on Acacia Road or Springfield Road nearby. While this at 9:10
may add a few minutes to your journey, I am sure that you will agree that Before School: 8:30 – (with Father

On a more positive note, letters will be going out this week telling parents
about the Wow days that are planned for the first day back on Monday, 11th Tuesday 22nd March Head of School
April. This is another opportunity to apply your creative skills in making a Parent Workshop RE drop in
costume to wear for a special, fun day that is a break from our usual curricu-
lum. We are not asking parents/carers to spend a lot of money on buying or Curriculum 4-4:30 Every Tuesday
hiring costumes, instead we’d love pupils to spend some time over the 8:30-9:30am and
holidays thinking up and making a costume – perhaps using cardboard boxes Jasmine Y5
and paint, or old sheets or clothes. I know that the children of St Saviour’s Swimming 3-4pm.
are very keen on a ‘dress-up’ day – last Friday’s Science Day proved what Jasmine Y5’s last

as the pioneering, female Aerospace Engineer, Aprille Ericsson-Jackson, 2016, as they started Thursdays,
which demonstrates that as well as being fun, the planning behind the swimming a term monthly, for

Our value of the week this week is: Love Have a lovely week and Easter.
This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his Best wishes,

and sisters.

Attendance
The whole school target for attendance is 96.5%. Last week, we achieved 90.1%, al-
though our attendance figure to date is 95.9% Please help us to ensure that children are
getting the best possible education by making sure that children are in school, where
possible.
Birch class had a fantastic week last week and managed 98.1 % - well done to them!
Joey & Jade Early Bears award
Well done to Birch class who are last week’s winners of the punctuality award. Keep it up!
Class Corner– Roses
Roses have had a great half term and are looking forward to the next adventures that lie
ahead in Year 2. This term we have been focusing on habitats in science and have enjoyed
exploring where animals like to live, why they live there and the conditions they enjoy. We
have also taken part in Science Week where we investigated colour change and the density
of water. Roses’ class especially enjoyed World Book Day. There were many amazing shoe
box stories and fantastic costumes of book characters. We spent our Literacy lesson dis-
cussing our shoe box stories and listening to stories for enjoyment. We are very much
looking forward to starting our new History topic on Florence Nightingale and Mary Sea-
cole when we come back after the holidays and can’t wait to learn many exciting facts.
Miss Foster, Roses class teacher.
St Saviour’s Nursery
Don't forget that we have an excellent Nursery on site catering for children
aged 12months to 4 years. St Saviour's Nursery is a happy, nurturing and safe
environment for your little ones to grow and learn. For more information
visit the website (www.stsavioursnursery.org) or email us at nursery@st-
saviours.waltham.sch.uk.
SCHOOL NURSE SESSIONS
As a school we will be holding a drop in session where Judy Flanagan, the
school nurse, will be available for any parent who has a query concerning
their health.
The first session was on Thursday 21st January. The drop in surgery will,
in future, be on a monthly basis, from 3:00-4:00pm, but the second one is
17th March (due to the half term) .
SCHOLASTIC BOOK FAIR
Our Book Fair continues until Thursday 24th March,
before and after school. There are some wonderful
books for all ages and sales of books help towards earning the school
commission which is used to buy books for the school library. Please
come along and help to support the school.
ParentView – We’d like to hear your views
Following the recent Parent Open sessions Parents’ Evenings, we’d love to
hear your feedback on the school. As you’ll know, we have a range of clubs
going on for children after school, as well as additional provision on Satur-
days for Years 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6, as well as before and after school. It was
really helpful that we received updated phone and email details from par-
ents/carers at Parents’ Evenings, as this helps us to keep in touch with you
and ensures that you receive the newsletter and any other letters – we are
aiming to be a paperless school as much as possible due to the cost and
waste of sending out letters to over 400 families!
Please log in to https://parentview.ofsted.gov.uk then select the ‘Give your
views’ tab in the top left of the screen. You will be asked to register your
email address and provide a password. A confirmation link will be sent to
your email. Please then search for St Saviour’s and answer 12 quick
questions. Thank you for your help.
Early Morning and Afterschool Curriculum/Activity Clubs
The last day for the Early Morning and Afterschool Curriculum and
Activity clubs was Friday 18th March 2016.
The Breakfast Club is open up to Thursday 24th March 2016 and the
last day for the Afterschool Tea Time Club is Wednesday 23rd March 2016 as the school
finishes at 2pm on Thursday 24th March 2016.
‘Keep St Saviour’s Tidy’ - and please come to our Book Fair
Last week we started impressing on pupils the importance of respecting our school envi-
ronment and keeping the place tidy. The School Council has made presentations to chil-
dren during assembly and has designed and placed posters around the school as part of
our ‘Keep St Saviour’s Tidy’ campaign and monitoring very carefully. I’m not sug-
gesting that we check litter for DNA (as they do in Hong Kong apparently; litterbugs are
shamed on electronic billboards) but we will be keeping a very close eye on our school
environment and those that may be spoiling it.
Please do not give your children sweets to eat before school (or money to buy some-
thing on the way) as this is not only bad for teeth, but also a potential source of litter.
Remember: Littering: it’s not smart.
Book Fair
The Book Fair is in school this week. I am hoping that ‘Pester Power’ wins the day and
children will be persuading their parents that they absolutely must have the latest
‘Diary of a Wimpy Kid’ (or whatever book is currently popular). Our share of the profits
from the Book Fair will go towards nice new books for the school so please pop along
and have a look. There are limited numbers of books that only cost £1 which can be
purchased by handing in the World Book Day voucher which was given to every child the
school recently. Finally, a quick reminder that the last day of the spring term, Thursday,
24th March, will finish at 2:00 pm, so please pick up your children promptly.

Miss Freddie Bines – new admin staff member.
I’m delighted to announce that Miss Bines, who has been helping to staff our office
recently, will be joining us full time from our return after Easter on Monday 11th April.
Miss Bines has several years’ experience working at our sister school, St Mary’s, and I am
sure that you will find her extremely helpful and efficient. She joins us as Administration
Assistant. Please join me in welcoming her officially to St Saviour’s.
