Good local food comes alive in the plush, cozy and stylish

Mrs. Josephine Gyasi’s

unmatched fashion and business sense

Her maiden name is Afia Aboagyewaa Josephine,
but she became Josephine Gyasi after marriage.

Josephine helped her husband, Nana Kwadwo
Gyasi to start a fitting blacksmith shop in 1981 at Magazine
Makro in Kumasi, the capital of the Ashanti Region. The
small-scale business gradually blossomed into a medium-
sized enterprise because of the excellent customer care
of the owner.

Before any one could say jack, Nana Gyasi started traveling
to Germany to import car spare parts to sell in Ghana. After
a serious disappointment from a firm he dealt with and the
constant currency fluctuations, he decided to change his
line of business.

Madam Josephine assisted her husband, Nana Gyasi, and
he founded Nana K. Gyasi Company Limited and started
importing building materials. They opened the first shop in
La Paz-Akweteyman in Accra. After some time, he set up
other branches in Kwashieman, Tantra Hills and Pokuase,
all in Accra; and Fomasua and Kumasi Ampamen, both of
which are in the Ashanti Region.

Mrs. Gyasi opened up on how Nana K. Gyasi Company
Limited became one of the best building materials importers
and dealers in the country today. “Due to Nana Gyasi’s
spirituality, he is always led by the spirit in the opening of
the branches which has led to 30 branches all over the
country and still counting. For me his wife, I was still taking
care of the spare parts shop in Magazine-Kumasi, since the
spare parts sales were not moving rapidly, he then bought
land and put up the head office for the building materials
in Ashanti Region.

“This is when I moved from selling spare parts to selling
building materials which is a men’s job. I have been
the head here since 1995 with quite a large number of
employees. I do all the travelling with my husband and
make the deals with him. God has been the backbone
of this company over the years and my children who are
both accountants have also taken on the responsibility of
making this firm achieve its vision,” she reveals.

She said the family is praying to God for this firm to move
from generation to generation and be the first point of
contact when it comes to building materials in Ghana. “I
however never let go of my dream over the years which
is my love for fashion and this has birthed the JOEGYASI
BOUTIQUE which is located in Magazine New Road in
Kumasi. I am looking to expanding and opening other
branches in the coming years,” she said.

Her contribution to growth and expansion of Nana K. Gyasi
Company informed The Business Executive to recognize
with the Feminine Ghana Achievement Awards. She joked
that though she has contributed much to the achievements
of the company, her husband has received more awards
than her.

Madam Josephine has been married since the year 1983,
and the 36 years of wedlock has been blessed with two
children, male and female. First child is called Samuel Kofi
Owusu Ansah Gyasi and the second is Yaa Afrah Gyasi.

Those skills result from an excellent, well planned education.
She obtained a Master’s degree in Quality Management from
the University of Paisley in Scotland, UK (now known as University

degree in Materials Science and Engineering from the Kwame

She thought knowing that people would hear her speak on

With the stealthy passage of time, encouraging words and

worked hard at her confidence while learning on the job.
Gradually, she overcame her phobia and cruised on air

Whilst in her position as the host of the entertainment

enroll in Ghana Institute of Journalism (GIJ) and take a short
course in Public Relations (PR) in an attempt to further her

Doreen completed the PR course in six weeks. By that time,
she had improved her skills as a radio broadcaster. Her job

Doreen’s work progressed from radio to television (TV).
