Executive of
Academics

The Executive of Academics is responsible for planning and executing
events that enhance student’s educational opportunities. Included in
these events are: speaker series, tutoring sessions, student appreciation
days, pre-core case competition and the mentorship breakfast. In addi-
tion, the Academics portfolio facilitates students building relationships
with each other through programs such as the Student Partner Program,
Buddy Program (between international and domestic students) and
International Student Relations. This role provides great room for creativ-
ity in new events and initiatives; and should be led by someone who has
strong leadership and organization skills.

Typically the Academics portfolio has a team of eight directors (one per
portfolio aspect). There is some crossover between these various posi-
tions, so it is essential to maintain strong communication lines and al-
low for collaboration amongst the various positions. It is imperative that
in this position you are able to effectively lead meetings and follow up to
ensure that deadlines are met, and the team is adding to students expe-
riences at UVic. In the Vice President of Academics position you will work
closely with the External Relations, Marketing and Engagement teams.
