D-PLAN

Dartmouth’s term-based academic plan, the “D-Plan,” is uniquely advantageous
for college sailors.  Based on a format more comparable to quarters, rather than
full semesters, student athletes have the opportunity to go abroad or take intern-
ships during their winter terms (from early January until mid-March), and then re-

turn for the entire spring college sailing season.

Spring Training Trip

TRAINING TRIPS

The D-Plan allows for unique training periods. Between the Fall and Winter
Terms we are able to utilize the week after Thanksgiving as training time. For our

Winter Trip we travel to Charleston, SC, to practice for five days, with an em-
phasis on team racing. In addition, the team travels south for our spring training
trip. This training period equates to eight days on the water. Since these training
periods occur between academic terms, there are no lingering academic commit-

ments; on these trips we focus solely on improving our sailing.

Dartmouth Athletics’ DP2 Program reflects the College’s commitment to excellence for
student-athletes both in intercollegiate athletics and in the classroom. Implemented in
2010, the three-part program focuses on Academics, Athletics, and Personal Health. For
our sailors, that means we train with a dedicated strength coach in an exclusive varsity
facility; we have access to athletic trainers to help our athletes with any injuries, sport-re-
lated or otherwise; we have access to staff nutritionists and staff sports psychologists,
and all of our athletes receive academic tutoring provided (and payed for) by the Athletic
Department. DP2 maintains a highly competitive career track that helps place our varsity

athletes in highly competitive internships and jobs after graduation.
