DRINKING WATER is IMPORTANT Our bodies are made up of 50% to 60% water.
Every cell, tissue, and organ in our body needs water to work properly.1
Drinking enough water every day has many benefits on our health, including:
Helping the circulatory system.
Removing
body waste material.
Regulating body temperature.
Helping digestion, absorption of nutrients and detoxification.
Transporting
nutrients and bodily fluids.
On average, adults need to drink about 8 glasses or 2 liters of water a day2 in order to keep the body hydrated and bodily functions regular.
Drink a glass of water with each meal and one between meals.
Suggestions
Drink water
before, during and after any physical activity.
Drink water instead of carbonated beverages and other artificial beverages.

WHERE DO FRESH WATER?
we get
Water is brought to a treatment facility through underground pipes where
it is treated and disinfected and then goes to distribution centers where it is piped to our homes.
The decision to find other options as a source of drinking water is usually based on people not liking the taste, odor or color of their tap water or as a back-up for the local water treatment systems.

Filtration is a physical method that traps contaminants and organisms in the filter media.
Water ‘treatment’ methods such as ozone, chlorine, and UV kill or sterilize the organisms, but don’t remove them from the water.
FILTRATION vs TREATMENT
Trapped Organisms
Dead Organisms
AQ242MP WW (NO-CAL) 2242.01.0319 | 7

FILTRATION OPTIONS
FAUCET MOUNTS AND PITCHERS
Water goes through a carbon or mixed media filter which absorbs contaminants. They primarily improve tastes and odor.
MECHANICAL FILTRATION
Water goes through porous materials that remove only suspended solid particles, but not viruses.
ACTIVATED CARBON FILTRATION
Water flows through an activated carbon surface that traps some elements in water like chlorine, dissolved gasses and some organic contaminants.
REVERSE OSMOSIS
Water flows through two chambers: It is pressure driven from the first into the second chamber, thus leaving the contaminants behind.
Complete description of filtration and treatment options.
8 | AQ242MP WW (NO-CAL) 2242.01.0319

TREATMENT OPTIONS
ULTRA-VIOLET TREATMENT
Water flows in very thin layers by UV lamps which eliminate bacteria in a way similar to sunrays.
OZONE DISINFECTION
Ozone-saturated bubbles are mixed with water where the ozone eliminates viruses and bacteria. Ozone is made by passing oxygen through ultraviolet light or a “cold” electrical discharge.
OTHER CHEMICAL TREATMENTS
These processes add to the water chemical substances like chlorine, which kill the contaminants, but do not remove them from the water.
BOILING
Boiling water kills contaminants but does not remove them. It also eliminates most of the natural minerals and it requires a lot of energy.

IS BOTTLED WATER A GOOD OPTION?
Bottled water may seem like a good option because it is portable and it is available almost everywhere, from grocery stores to vending machines or concession stands in work places or recreational areas.
However, bottled water has several issues for you and for the environment.
ISSUES FOR YOU
1 Its quality depends on the bottling company and the local government regulations.
3 It can be an inconvenience, requiring frequent trips to points of sale and taking up storage space in the house.
2 Research has shown that some plastic products like single-use water bottles can release chemicals such as BPA (Bisphenol-A) into the beverages they contain. The impact of those chemicals on health is unknown.3
4 It is expensive compared to tap water.

10 | AQ242MP WW (NO-CAL) 2242.01.0319

What about recycling?
RECYCLING is not enough!
ISSUES FOR THE ENVIRONMENT
More than 282 billion liters of bottled water are consumed annually worldwide.4
That is the equivalent of 5.1 billion 1-liter bottles per week.
Enough to circle the entire globe more than 10 times in one week!
2 Most plastic bottles do not get recycled and they end up in landfills, get burned (releasing toxic chemicals in the process), or simply get discarded. Many discarded plastic bottles and their caps end up in rivers, oceans and lakes. Here they do not go away. They accumulate.
1 The production of plastic water bottles and the process of bottling water use precious resources such as energy and water itself, and they create greenhouse gasses. Single-use plastic water bottles have a carbon footprint of more than half a million passenger vehicles.5

PLASTIC NEVER
goes away
All the plastic produced during the last 70 YEARS is still out there.
WITH NATURAL CURRENTS, DISCARDED PLASTIC FORMS HUGE FLOATING PATCHES IN THE OCEANS.
WITH SUNLIGHT IT BREAKS DOWN INTO MICROPLASTICS.
PLASTIC WASTE IS A HAZARD FOR ANIMALS AND POTENTIALLY FOR HUMANS:
Animals can get entangled in and strangled from plastic debris; they can also eat the plastics and die.
Microplastics are eaten by tiny organisms, which are then eaten by larger organisms. So plastics are entering the food chain and the impact on animal and human life on earth is unknown.6
6. National Geographic News, Thursday October 28, 2010. 12 | AQ242MP WW (NO-CAL) 2242.01.0319

The plastic currently accumulated in the oceans could destroy as many as
00 marine species.7 It could harm parts of the food chain.
With the RENA WARE WATER FILTERS we help eliminate single-use plastic water bottles.
Imagine the DIFFERENCE we could make if every person used the Rena Ware Filter Bottle or Aqua Nano at home filters instead of bottled water!
You can make a difference by sharing the Rena Ware Water Filters with everyone, not only as a product but as an OPPORTUNITY for them to earn by sharing our Cause with their family and friends.
THIS is our CAUSE
ELIMINATE SINGLE-USE PLASTIC WASTE FROM OUR ENVIRONMENT

EXTREME FILTRATION
14 | AQ242MP WW (NO-CAL) 2242.01.0319
PREVENTION is the
BEST SOLUTION

RENA WARE AQUA HDTM TECHNOLOGY
Aqua HDTM is High Molecular Deposition Technology. It consists of a fibrous filter. The fibers are like a microscopic mesh that traps contaminants down to the nano level, much more effectively and with much more grabbing power than a physical filtering barrier. This happens thanks to a natural process called adsorption.
Absorption
Adsorption
A process where the molecules of a substance are taken in by another substance.
A process where the molecules of a substance adhere to a surface.
The Aqua HDTM filter fibers contain a mineral called boehmite. This mineral has a positive electric charge, while contaminants have a negative electric charge. The mineral acts like a magnet: It attracts the contaminants and traps them on the filter surface (it adsorbs them), so they can’t escape.
AQ242MP WW (NO-CAL) 2242.01.0319 | 15

THIS ESPECIALLY POWERFUL PROCESS HAS
THREE MAIN ADVANTAGES:
NANO FILTRATION HIGH FLOW HIGH CAPACITY 1. NANO FILTRATION
While most conventional filters filter down to 1 micron, Aqua HDTM provides filtration at nanolevel. At nanolevel particles are measured in nanometers.
1 nanometer = 1,000 smaller than 1 micron. Consider that a human hair is 50,000- 100,000 nanometers in diameter. Nano particles can only be seen through an electron microscope.
CYSTS AND OTHER IMPURITIES BIGGER THAN 1 MICRON
SKIN CELLS (30 MICRONS)
1 MICRON
OTHER PARTICLES SMALLER THAN
1 MICRON
HUMAN HAIR (100 MICRONS)
1 MICRON
Laboratory tests8 show that this sub-microscopic level of filtration removes more than 98% of bacteria and viruses that can cause waterborne diseases such as cholerae, hepatitis, viral gastroenteritis, typhoid fever among many others.
Aqua HDTM specifically removes:
• 99.9% of viruses and bacteria9 in the Rena Ware at home filtration systems;
• 98.3% of viruses and 99.9% of bacteria10 in the Rena Ware Filter Bottle.
8. For detailed information about the laboratory tests, see pp. 58-59.
9-10. The contaminants removed by the Aqua✓HDTM are not necessarily in your tap water. The Aqua✓HDTM is intended for use only with municipally treated tap water. Water of unknown origin can contain a variety of contaminants or substances that may or may not be removed by the Aqua✓HDTM. Neither the Rena Ware Filter Bottle nor the home filtration systems have been tested for the removal of arsenic. The Rena Ware Filter Bottle does not filter lead.
1 NANOMETER
16 | AQ242MP WW (NO-CAL) 2242.01.0319

2. HIGH FLOW
The fibers containing boehmite allow the Aqua HDTM filter structure to be more open than the structure of conventional filters, and this in turn allows a much higher water flow: up to 6 LPM (1.5 GPM) for the at home filtering units.11
3. HIGH CAPACITY
The fibers in each filter create a large surface area.
In the Filter Bottle the filter surface area is 1,358 m2 (14,617 sq ft) - that is larger than three basketball courts!
FILTER
BASKETBALL COURT
In the at home filters, the surface area is 8,175 m2 (88,000 sq ft) – that is larger than a soccer field!
FILTER SOCCER FIELD
This large surface area allows each bottle cartridge to filter up to 1,600 L (423 gal), and each home filtration cartridge to filter up to 11,355 L (3,000 gal) before replacement.12
11. LPM = liters per minute; GPM = gallons per minute. A flow of 6 LPM (1.5 GPM) requires water pressure greater or equal to 30 pounds per square inch (≥ 30 PSI).
12. Actual capacity will depend on the amount of suspended solids and particles in local water systems. In exceptionally turbid water conditions, the media insert in the Aqua✓HDTM Cartridge should be replaced more often. For optimum performance of the home filtration systems, we recommend replacing the Aqua✓HDTM media insert at least every 5 years even if the LED indicator has not turned red yet.

3-STAGE AQUA NANO
FILTRATION SYSTEM
PRE-FILTER
1 Dual technology EM media
Water enters the top of the filter and goes through the Electropositive Mechanical (EM) Pre-Filter or media. The pre-filter uses dual technology filtration, which is a combination of mechanical filtration and chemical electropositive attraction:
• The electropositive attraction traps submicron (nano) particles.
• Themeshmechanicallyblockslarger particles.
The pre-filter protects the main filter, especially in challenging water situations.
MAIN FILTER
2 Aqua HDTM media
Traps and retains bacteria, cysts, viruses. Water passes through the Aqua HDTM main filter. Here is where the in-depth filtration happens: The filter mesh is tighter and the adsorption is even stronger.
3 High-flow carbon core
Adsorbs chlorine, lead, tastes, odors. Water flows through a carbon filter which is impregnated with silver.
The slightly open structure of the carbon core adsorbs while maintaining high water flow. The silver prevents the growth of bacteria, making the filter bacteriostatic.

INSTALLATION
Be sure to read the Use and Care Booklets (AQ623, AQ624) and watch the videos for details on installation, daily usage and maintenance (available on renaware.com). Here are some highlights.
FOR ALL THREE MODELS
• Insert 2 fresh, high-quality AA batteries (not included) in the base.
• Replacing the batteries does not affect the flow meter's memory.
FOR UCU AND LX MODELS
• Always install with two people.
• To install the "Bypass" Side Faucet, if there is not already an extra hole next to the
main faucet, a 22 mm (0.87") in diameter needs to be drilled.
• An optional bracket is available for mounting the filtering unit on a wall under the sink.
FOR UCU ONLY
• Lift out old faucet and measure faucet hole BEFORE disconnecting.
• Ensure faucet body is front-aligned and that the light collar and faucet are held stationary while tightening from below. The parts should not move independently to avoid cutting the data cable and disabling the indicator lights.
The Aqua Nano units may not be appropriate for customers known to have less than 30 PSI in water pressure (i.e. if it takes more than 20 seconds to fill a 1 liter container).

USE AND CARE
AQUA NANO CARTRIDGES
EM Pre-Filter cartridge
Pre-Filter Reusable Housing
EM Pre-Filter Media Insert
Aqua HDTM Main Filter Media Insert
Aqua HDTM Main Filter cartridge
MainFilter Reusable Housing
• The pre-filter cartridge and the main filter cartridge have 2 parts each: a reusable housing and a replaceable media insert.
• The media inserts in the pre-filter and the main filter are not necessarily replaced at the same time.
• The life of the media inserts may range from a couple of months to a year and it depends entirely on the quality of the water. Heavy amounts of particles will require more frequent washing and replacement.
• The reusable housings can be rinsed. With proper care, they should last several years.
28 | AQ242MP WW (NO-CAL) 2242.01.0319

PRE-FILTER
• May become blocked over time and result in decreased water flow.
• To clean it, rinse it regularly.
• It can be back flushed up to 3 times to flush out built-up sediment and particles and restore efficiency.
• Replace the EM pre-filter media insert with a new one after the third back flush. Or when rinsing and back flushing fails to restore acceptable flow.
• There are no LED indicator lights for the media insert in the pre-filter cartridge.
MAIN FILTER
• The LED indicator lights only refer to the media insert in the main filter cartridge.
• For optimum performance we recommend replacing the Aqua HDTM media insert at least every 5 years even if the "REPLACE" indicator red light has not yet come on.
NEVER BACK FLUSH THE AQUA HDTM main filter, because:
• It will damage the internal
structure of the cartridge and
make the filter ineffective;
• It can contaminate the downstream media of the Aqua HDTM so that it
will no longer filter properly.
Watch the video about the pre-filter

MEDIA REPLACEMENT
• Open reusable housing and rinse when replacing the media insert.
• The used media insert should be discarded.
Pre-Filter:

Always wear protective gloves when handling the cartridges.
RESETTING THE FLOW METER
Using a pencil or pen point press the red button on the bottom of the base for 5 seconds and wait for the indicator lights to fire a flash sequence.
The flow meter has to be reset after replacing the main filter media insert.

CHARGING THE SYSTEM
• Charging improves water flow and avoids “run-on”.
• Always “charge” the cartridges (system) with water after removing them for any reason.
2
1 First run water through the system for about 2 minutes to saturate the media.
2Remove the inlet assembly and the pre-filter cartridge from the top of main filter cartridge.
3 Pour water into the top hole to fill the main filter cartridge.
4Re-install the pre-filter
and again pour water into the top hole of pre-filter cartridge until it is full; reconnect the inlet assembly.

TROUBLESHOOTING
Be sure to read the Use and Care Booklets (AQ623, AQ624) and watch the videos for details on troubleshooting (available in renaware.com, links have been embedded on this seminar). Here are some highlights.
EMERGENCY USE FOR UCU INTEGRATED FAUCET ONLY
• In the event that a UCU model clogs and the customer does not have replacement media inserts for either the pre-filter or the main filter, they need to order replacements right away! The model number and the specifications are found on the bottom of the base unit.
• Until the new inserts arrive and as an emergency measure only, customers can simply remove both cartridges and connect the inlet assembly directly to the locking plate on the base. This will allow customers to temporarily run the unfiltered tap water through the integrated faucet.
This operation should be done only in case of emergency. Running unfiltered water through the integrated faucet by bypassing the filter cartridges may allow particles from raw tap water to accumulate inside the faucet. Therefore the customer needs to disinfect the integrated faucet before installing new media inserts to prevent these deposits from contaminating the filtered water.
See instructions for disinfecting the faucet in the "Troubleshooting" section of the Use and Care booklet (AQ624).

19) a. use clean damp sponge or cloth / b. use mild nonabrasive liquid soap
20) 1-c /2-e /3-a /4-b /5-d /6-f
21) 1- Thanks to a natural process called adsorption. The filter is made of fibers that contain a mineral (boehmite) that has a positive electric charge. The bacteria have a negative electric charge. Thanks to this opposite electrical charge, when the bacteria enter the filter they form a permanent bond with the boehmite and they become trapped on the surface of the filter.
2- The LED indicator lights will turn yellow at first and then red. Yellow means it is time to order a media insert replacement and red means the media insert is no longer filtering effectively.
3- Dirt is mechanically filtered out. That means that larger particles are physically blocked by the filter mesh (similar to what happens with a strainer). Other, much smaller contaminants are attracted to the filter through the natural process of adsorpcion. (See answer 1)
4- The filtration is real: At home filtration really eliminates 99.9% of viruses and bacteria, and the Rena Ware Filter Bottle really eliminates 98.3% of viruses and 99.9% of bacteria.
5- The minerals present in water depend on the water source and the path water goes through. The Aqua✓HDTM filter does not remove minerals.
48 | AQ242MP WW (NO-CAL) 2242.01.0319

PRACTICE ANSWERS
6- The cartridges consist of two parts. The housing, which is reusable, and the media insert which is replaceable. The duration/ life of the media insert really depends on usage and water conditions. Each at home filtration unit can filter up to 11,355 L (3,000 gal). Each Filter Bottle can filter up to 1,600 L (423 gal).
7- The fibers contain boehmite, a mineral of the aluminum ore Bauxite. The media inserts are not biodegradable. Water filters in general tend to not be biodegradable. Biodegradable things dissolve in water. So a biodegradable water filter would not last, as it would dissolve. The Rena Ware filters can be thrown away with general waste, since the contaminants are permanently trapped and will not be released.
8- The Aqua✓HDTM technology these filters are based on will not change because it uses a process that occurs in nature (See answer 1). So the current purchase will not be surpassed by technological advances and will be valuable for a long time.
9- Answers really depend on the model and actual issue. Ask for more information: What model are you looking to install? And what in particular would you like help with?
10- This is not a question, it is a comment. Kindly ask the customer for a question, for example say: What question do you have?, What is your concern?, or What other information would you like to have? Be ready to provide information on the savings and the features of the Rena Ware water filters. To give this information to prospects and clients you can use the Water filters brochure (AQ700).
