Eileen Gray created the Transat Chair in 1927 for the interior of the villa E-1027, a modernist villa she designed in Roquebrune-CapMartin, France, near Monaco. The chair was part of her vision for modern living and was designed to be both functional and aesthetically pleasing History The Transat Chair features a sleek, minimalist design with a tubular steel frame and a canvas or leather sling seat. Its design is inspired by the deck chairs used on transatlantic ocean liners, hence the name "Transat," which means "deck chair" in French. The chair's reclined backrest and low-slung seat provide a comfortable lounging experience, reminiscent of relaxation on a cruise ship. 01 02 page 4 DTR 251 FURNITURE DESIGN AND MATERIALS
