This handbook is prepared to facilitate the retrieving and use of various records and information
for SMK Sekyen 19. All these various information are freely available and shall be obtained at
electronic sources at SMK Section 19 School Portal. These finding aids are purposely objective

to help researchers to find and obtain their desires information easily.

All material listed in this handbook are according to the type of collection and index guidelines
with appropriate pages to facilitates the researchers to find their desired materials.

We are thankful to Allah S.W.T for His mercy and guidance in providing direction and opening
our minds to perfect the task of finding these aids. Without His grace this task would not have
been possible to complete at the appointed time. We are so grateful for Him who has given us so

much grace and comfort.

The highest award was also given to our lecturer, En. Kamarul Azwan bin Azman has provided a
lot of guidance and an abundance of knowledge on this task.

INTRODUCTION

We have discussed and agreed to choose SMK Section 19 as the best school for this assignment
topic due to the potential and the uniqeness of this school. The school is located in the
municipality which is at Jalan Gelora 19/46, Section 19, 40300 Shah Alam, Selangor.

According to several studies, this school has a high potential in shaping students to be successful
human capital not only in education but also in the curriculum. This is because the school is
equipped with advanced and modern infrastructure that contributes significantly to student

learning. In addition, the learning methods practiced in this school are also very encouraging, as
the teachers in this school use the techniques of communication which cover all aspects

including education, curriculum and spiritual. This is important for the development of a full-
fledged generation not only with education but also with high human values.

School History
Section 19 National Secondary School is located in the heart of the Shah Alam industrial area of
40.8 hectares. The school began operating on June 20, 1994 with a staff of 17 and a total of 785

pupils. By 2019, the school will have nearly 2200 students, 159 teachers, 19 support staff, 69
premiership classes and 12 classes for the Intergenerational Special Education Program (ISED)

CHAPTER 2: SCHOOL LIBRARY

School library in SMK Section 19 Shah
Alam uses Automation System for loan and
return bookkeeping. The Automation System
has been in operation since January 2006. Every
student is required to have a smart card for loan
or return book circulation. "Smart card" can be
purchased through school cooperatives.

The PSS collection comprises a wide
variety of book and non-book materials such as magazines, audio-visual materials; covering
various fields of science in a variety of languages (English, Chinese, Tamil, etc.) as well as a
variety of characters (Rumi, Arabic, India, Mandarin and others). Non-fiction books in PSS
SMKS19 are classified and organized according to Dewey's Decimal Classification System. The
following is a brief summary of the subjects organized by this system by number:

The Nilam Program

A recent study on reading habits conducted by the National Library of Malaysia in 1996 found
that Malaysians only read two books a year. In fact a civilization or nation can only be built
through a society that practices the culture of science.

Acknowledging the fact that various reading promotion programs have been held at the school
level. "The Nilam Program” was first introduced in 1998 at SMKS19. The goal of this program
is to build reading habits among students and made reading one of the hobbies among students.
In addition, the variety of programs run in this library can also generate creative and innovative

ideas to incorporate reading habits.

The role of the student in making this program successful is to have a Nilam Reading Book and
Smart Card. They are required to borrow at least one book every two weeks. Recognition will be

given to any student who has succeeded in breaking the record for highest reading.

CHAPTER 3: SCHOOL COMPUTER LAB

There are 4 computer labs available in SMK Section 19 Shah Alam for student convenience
namely 2 Multimedia Labs, 1 Cyber Café Lab and 1 Lotus Lab. Multimedia Lab 1 and

Multimedia Lab 2 can accommodate up to 40 students, Cyber Café Labs can accommodate up to
10 students and Lotus Labs 26 students.

Multimedia Labs

Each Multimedia Lab 1 and 2 has 20 student computer units, 1 teacher computer unit, 1 projector
unit, 1 speaker box unit, scanner, and one Color Laserjet printer using the Windows XP

operating system. These labs are used only during the teaching and learning sessions of ICT and
ICTL subjects only.

Multimedia Labs 1 and 2 have IBM Lenovo-branded computers and 1 server unit. The lab is also
equipped with projector LCD equipment, speaker system and 8 CCTV units. These labs can be

used at any time with the approval of the ICT Unit Coordinator. Both computer labs are
equipped with air conditioning to ensure the convenience of the students.

The management of these two computer labs is under the supervision of the ICT Unit
coordinator with the assistance of a full-time Computer Technician. All computer labs are
equipped with internal network (LAN) to enable file sharing and internet based on student id.

Pusat Akses Sekolah (PUaS)

The “Pusat Akses Sekolah” (PUaS) was opened in 2007. It is the construction of Phase 2 and
among the pioneer schools in Shah Alam. PUaS comes with 10 computers and Internet networks.

It also comes with LAN and Wireless LAN. It also comes with the convenience of a printer, a
screen and a Projector LCD with private donations.

Recently, on April 29, 2019, PuAS was upgraded in line with the 21st Century Learning culture.
The YTL Foundation is pleased to select SMKS19 as one of the schools under the FROG

Classroom Project. With this contribution, PuAS has a new look in the 21st-century design. In
addition, PuAS was also selected as an experimental school using the ARVIA Interactive White

Board for 3 months.

PuAS offers Internet access services and the use of Interactive Multimedia R&D materials to any
teacher who wishes to use them for R&D or club activities. Some of the application software
offered are Adobe Photoshop, Visual Basic 6.0 and Microsoft Office 2007.

Since it opened, various activities have been carried out. These include FROG VLE, Online
Language Games, Power Point and Movie Maker Contest for R&D and School Magazine

Editorial Activities. It is open daily until 3:00 pm.

Lotus Lab

The Lotus Lab is equipped with 31 computers that work alongside the air conditioner. The lab
can accommodate about 50 students at a time. The Lotus Lab is used for ICTL program classes,

Computer Clubs and also School Magazine Editorial AJK. Among the application software
provided in this lab is Microsoft Office 2003

Frog VLE Room
Frog Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) is a web-based learning system that resembles the
real world of learning by integrating conventional education concepts with virtual methods. For

example, teachers can assign assignments, tests and check assignments in virtual, while students
can submit assignments and check scores through VLE. Parents can communicate with the
school while the school administrator can manage the school calendar and publish the school
notice over the Internet.
The ultimate goal is to provide comfortable and appropriate facilities in the 21st Century

Learning and Teaching standards that lead to virtual learning. In addition, the establishment of
FROG VLE can also encourage teachers to use FROG VLE as a 21st Century PdP medium.

CHAPTER 4: SPECIAL EDUCATION

Special Education or better known as the Special Education Interconnection Learning Program
(PPKIBP) is set up to enhance the excellence of “special” SMK Section 19 citizens to the

optimum. The mission of the program is to produce individuals who have a good personality, are
confident and courageous in line with community norms and can create useful experiences to
apply in everyday life, especially in life skills.

Special Education Program was established in December 1995. The program initially had only 2
teachers and 2 students. Whereas the original building was just a class with a Economy House
room. The PPKIBP now has its own building which began occupying January 17, 2000. The

building was officially opened on July 30, 2001 by En. Razali b. Ayob (Head of Special
Education Unit of the Selangor State Education Department). The categories of PPKIBP students

in SMK Section 19 are students with various types of disabilities such as Slow Learner, Down
Syndrome, Celebral Palsy and Mental Disorders. PPKIBP strives to enhance the student's
potential to the optimum, so that the experience and knowledge gained can be applied in
everyday life.

CHAPTER 5: THE UNIQUE OF SMK SECTION 19 SHAH ALAM

SMKS19 has launched a number of unique project and club to engage students in school
activities that not only fill student time but also assist students in shaping students' personalities

to be the best human capital of the present and future.
Aviation Club

The Aviation World has many job opportunities offered including flight attendants, engineers,
technicians, pilots and marshals. The goal of the Aviation Club is to provide students with an
early exposure to the world of aviation. And it is hoped that the establishment of this club will

attract students and open the minds of students in the aviation world.

Gamelan Club
Gamelan Club is also one of the clubs established in this school to eradicate artistic and ethnic
talent from students. These gamelan dance performances are often performed at various events
held at this school. It is also one of the school's initiatives to encourage self confidence among
the students.

Citizen Project
Citizens Project is an active citizenship education program specifically for teens to encourage

them to understand public issues and find the best solutions. The program also promotes a sense
of responsibility and cooperation within the group. In conducting citizen projects, participants
will learn to identify problems, gather and evaluate information, research solutions, formulate
alternative policies and formulate action plans. The results of the study will be presented at a
showcase session evaluated by a panel of judges. Some of the projects carried out are: Traffic
jams before SMK Section 19, Shah Alam (in the morning of school) and Dengue in Section 19

and 20 Shah Alam.
