Jump to navigation Jump to search Mail art di György Galántai, 1981 La mail art, anche conosciuta con il termine arte postale, è un movimento artistico Popolare che usa il servizio postale come mezzo di distribuzione, tramite l'invio di opere generalmente di piccolo formato creando così un feed-back tra mittente e destinatario. La mail art è considerata arte solo dopo la sua spedizione. Gli artisti di mail art vengono regolarmente coinvolti sullo sviluppo di tematiche specifiche per poi realizzare mostre o pubblicazioni. I materiali più comunemente utilizzati per la mail art includono cartoline, carta, collage composti da oggetti di uso comune ed immagini riciclate, francobolli di pelle, francobolli d'artista e dipinti[ , ma possono anche includere poesie, sound art e musica, tanto che oggi si parla di un network parallelo chiamato cassette culture o tape network sviluppatosi con l'introduzione delle musicassette come espressione sonoro-musicale della mail art[] . Se le origini della mail art possono essere rintracciate nei primi esperimenti del futurismo con i collaggi postali di Ivo Pannaggi (1920) o con la creazione di francobolli di Dadaisti come Marcel Duchamp, è altresì vero che la costituzione di un vero e proprio network di artisti postali risale agli anni '50 e '60, quando dal movimento Fluxus si sviluppò in tutto il mondo, con migliaia di partecipanti provenienti da oltre 50 nazioni[] . Fu poi Ray Johnson e la sua New York Correspondence School a sviluppare il primo network di artisti postali che si auto-definirono come tali. La comunità degli artisti postali danno valore alla interconnettività dei partecipanti e promuovono un'etica di egualitarismo che spesso aggira i circuiti ufficiali dell'arte fatti di musei, gallerie e fiere. I mail artisti fanno affidamento sulla rete di contatti come principale metodo di diffusione del loro lavoro, piuttosto che dipendere dall'abilità nel trovare spazi espositivi[ . Questa comunità abbraccia quindi uno status alternativo e da outsider, e si autodefinisce come "The Eternal Network" o solo come "The Network". Per contro, la mail art si basa sulla comunicazione interpersonale, sullo scambio e sulla creazione di una comunità virtuale di principianti ed amatori, ed in questo senso può essere vista come anticipatrice delle cyber comunità che possiamo trovare su internet.

Jump to navigation Jump to search Mail art by György Galántai, 1981 Mail art, also known by the term postal art, is a popular artistic movement that uses the postal service as a means of distribution, by sending generally small-format works thus creating a feed-back between sender and recipient. Mail art is considered art only after it has been mailed. Mail art artists are regularly involved in the development of specific themes to then create exhibitions or publications. The most commonly used materials for mail art include postcards, paper, collages composed of everyday objects and recycled images, leather stamps, artist stamps and paintings[, but can also include poetry, sound art and music, so much so that today there is talk of a parallel network called cassette culture or tape network which developed with the introduction of cassette tapes as a sound-musical expression of mail art[. If the origins of mail art can be traced to the first experiments of futurism with the postal collages of Ivo Pannaggi (1920) or with the creation of postage stamps by Dadaists such as Marcel Duchamp, it is also true that the establishment of a real network of artists postal services dates back to the 1950s and 1960s, when the Fluxus movement spread all over the world, with thousands of participants from over 50 countries[]. It was then Ray Johnson and his New York Correspondence School who developed the first network of self-defined postal artists. The community of postal artists value the interconnectivity of the participants and promote an ethic of egalitarianism that often bypasses the official art circuits made up of museums, galleries and fairs. Mail artists rely on networking as their primary method of disseminating their work, rather than depending on the ability to find exhibition spaces[. This community thus embraces an alternative and outsider status, and bills itself as "The Eternal Network" or just as "The Network". Conversely, mail art is based on interpersonal communication, exchange and the creation of a virtual community of beginners and amateurs, and in this sense it can be seen as a forerunner of the cyber communities that we can find on the internet.
Testo Il nuovo progetto artistico lanciato dalla galleria virtuale ARTGALLERY MCL ha come tema il “DENARO”, infatti “ARTISTIC MONEY” ha lasciato ampia libertà d’interpretazione ai numerosi artisti che hanno preso parte alla chiamata di mail art, autori provenienti da molti paesi europei e non che si sono cimentati a elaborare piccole opere ma ognuna con un grande impatto sia estetico sia comunicativo. Gli artisti hanno affrontato questo tema sbizzarrendosi con varie tecniche e stili personali, hanno creato nuove e immaginarie banconote, spinti dalla fervida fantasia, mentre altri sono intervenuti su banconote esistenti, ancora in circolazione o addirittura in carta moneta da collezione. In mostra opere che variano dalla coloratissima pop-art alle opere concettuali, in questa esposizione virtuale sul denaro si possono ammirare interventi su banconote con tagli e abrasioni, con disegni, con messaggi, con collage e ricami o elaborazioni digitali. Un ampia collezione visibile sul sito della galleria sino al 31 gennaio 2023. (M.C.L.) Text The new artistic project launched by the ARTGALLERY MCL virtual gallery has the theme of "MONEY", in fact "ARTISTIC MONEY" has left ample freedom of interpretation to the numerous artists who took part in the mail art call, authors from many European countries and not that they ventured to develop small works but each one with a great aesthetic and communicative impact. The artists have tackled this theme by indulging themselves with various techniques and personal styles, they have created new and imaginary banknotes, driven by a fervid imagination, while others have intervened on existing banknotes, still in circulation or even in collector's paper money. On display works that vary from colorful pop-art to conceptual works, in this virtual exhibition on money it is possible to admire interventions on banknotes with cuts and abrasions, with drawings, with messages, with collages and embroideries or digital elaborations.
