Corse YFC
Adam Shayle Chairman 14/15
Corse have had another cracking year and has
competed in lots of different activities at County,
Area and National Level. The club is diverse
following the fact that ‘you don’t have to be one
to be one’. The club has competed in many
county competitions such as public speaking,
sports, ten pin bowling and many more.
Jodie Hart represented the club at SWA in the
situations vacant competition and Jodie
competed in the county team that went up to the
national cookery competition. This is brilliant and
the club are really proud of her, as a club we
competed at Rally in most competitions and did
really well coming 5th which is an excellent
achievement and I’d like to congratulate and
thank everyone who made anything, did anything
or painted anything for rally. The club has had
another excellent year and I’d like to congratulate
all involved and wish the next Chairman and
Secretary Good luck for the ensuing year.

Cirencester YFC
Ben Barton Chairman 14/15
Cirencester have had a really busy year this year,
having moved the clubs base from North Cerney to
Sapperton Village Hall the club has seen an
increase in members with lots of new faces joining
and competing at the County Rally.
We have had a diverse range of meetings, starting
the year off with a talk from Possum Doyle about
her recent trip to climb Kilamanjaro. We also had a
visit from a pair of dancers who amazingly
managed to teach the left footed farmers a
routine that we then performed in pairs!
In preparation for Bonfire Night the club had an
evening of making Guy Fawkes’ followed by
sausage making at Portway Farm Shop; these were
eaten at our Bonfire Night, which was a great
success with many fellow young farmers joining us
from the Royal Agricultural University.
We got in to the Christmas spirit with a card making
workshop, cake decorating and our annual
Christmas meal, which had an excellent turn out as
usual.
In preparation for the rally we did some stock
judging practice at Swyre Barton Farm, something
that many of our new members had never done.
-Gloucestershire Federation of Young Farmers’ Clubs Yearbook 14/15 | 53
At the county rally those that took part did really
well, gaining places in flower arranging, metal
work, needlework, blind sheep dog trials, farm
efficiency and safety, and sports day races.
The club will continue to meet at Sapperton Village
Hall on Mondays, 7:45 – 9:00, new members are
always welcome.
We will also be starting up a Junior Young Farmers
club after gaining much interest at the Cotswold
Show this summer. The club is also planning a
Charity Ball on 30th October in aid of Alzheimer’s
Society.

Gloucester YFC
Will Middle Chairman 14/15
Gloucester has had a cracking year, we may only
be a small young club but this year has shown that
there is lots of talent about in all the youngsters and
this has been shown by the high level of success in
pre rally and rally competitions. I have thoroughly
enjoyed pushing Gloucester forward this year and I
am very proud of all of our members. Our meetings
this year have been interesting and fun and filled
with lots of activities and things to do and we have
also had some meetings with other clubs which
have been good as it's a good chance for our
members to mingle with new people sharing the
same interests.
This year saw some incredible performances. We
gained a 3rd place at rally picking up lots of points
in craft and show competitions, and we had some
people go through to the three counties show to
compete at county level which they also archived
very well. Another brilliant achievement for our club
was our young junior reading and public speaking
teams who won the club stage and went on to
compete at the S.W.A
weekend in Weston. I also
went along to support the
teams although a heavy
night of partying the night
before at the Y.F.C
-Gloucestershire Federation of Young Farmers’ Clubs Yearbook 14/15 | 55
party meant I was slower to get to
the completion the next day but it
was all worth the while to cheer the
teams on.
In my opinion, I would say that
Gloucester has had a good selection
of meetings this year to keep all of
the members happy and occupied.
We have had various meetings such as talks by
people about the arctic, and rare spices, of
animals and then other more active meetings to let
out a bit of steam this included rounder’s matches
which were very good fun if not a little competitive,
but good fun all round. We also had a Christmas
meal which I invited another club along to which
worked very well and created a cheerful
atmosphere We had an evening of skittles in Ag
House followed by food and drink I was very
pleased with the turnout as we managed to get 50
people to come and join in the fun.
Overall I feel that Gloucester club is heading in the
right direction, and with a little support will grow to
form a strong club with many committed young
members who I'm sure will go on to do great things
in the club and outside of the club. The key focus in
the coming year for us will be to boost recruitment
and try to enlarge the club. I'm very excited to see
the future results of our club.
Finally I would like to thank my Secretary Katrina
Humphris for being very well organised and also
club leaders Vice Presidents and President for their
continued support, for which I am very grateful.

Hartpury YFC
Tara Penter Secretary 14/15
Hartpury YFC have had an amazing year with
immense effort and time put in by all the members
and advisory. Starting up the club once again in
September was a big ask but everyone was very
keen to get Hartpury back on the young farmers
map.
With activities such as tubing and team building
activities the club really has had fun and made
everyone feel like family. Ice skating was one of the
biggest hits with almost 40 members attending the
event we all had a go and even some of the
advisory joined in with the bambi on ice action. As
well as activities within the club we also took part in
the milk nominations thanks to the nomination from
Sodbury Vale to show our support for British dairy
farmers.
Competitions were also a big part of Hartpury’s
year with county sports day, skittles and many
others. This year Hartpury also competed in force at
GFYFC’s annual rally taking part in a variety of
competitions including: cookery, crafts, stock
judging and staged talent shows/dancing. Bringing
back a few prize cards along the way with 1st
place in horse stock judging and 2nd in dairy as well
as 3rd in line dancing and 1st in the fun competition
of bang a post in.
This has been a brilliant year for Hartpury all pulling
together to compete and most of all to have fun
and meet new friends and family.

Moreton YFC
Tom McDonah Chairman 14/15
Moreton-In-Marsh YFC have had another cracking
year and are very much looking forward to the
next with our major events this year being the 80th
Anniversary Summer Ball which saw over 400 tickets
sold and lots of members attending our event
where we raised over £6,000 and we donated
£4,000 between two charities Kate’s carers and
Midlands Air Ambulance.
Moreton also had their own stand at Moreton Show
this year with the milk tash challenge and lots of
enquiries from new members in the local area, this
was of course followed by our annual party which
was attended by members from all over the county
which is brilliant to see and really shows us as a club
getting involved in the county a lot more and
competing against other clubs which is brilliant.
I’d just like to thank Christy and Molly for all their
hard work and Jasmine Lyons for keeping us all on
track, finance wise. I would also just like to thank
anyone who has helped us over the past 12 months
and our committee that keep us on track.

Newent YFC
Sarah Townsend Secretary 14/15
2014/15 What a year! Members started the year with
a warm feeling in our bellies following the success at
last years’ Rally having won some silver wear for the
first time in a while. Members were eager to build on
this and keen to make this the best year yet! The club
has grown considerably in recent years, to now
having 26 members.
The year began with our 70th Anniversary Dinner and
Dance; bringing together new and old members
and supporters. A thoroughly enjoyable evening
was had by all. This was a fantastic fundraiser for the
club; along with the Christmas stall that we held, in
Newent, raising a huge £565.02.
The club has held a range of meetings throughout
the year, including both social and business
meetings. Examples of things we have done this year
are; laser tag, rock climbing, ten pin bowling, ice
skating, guide dog talk, farm visits, air ambulance
talk and a visit to an ice cream parlour. The club also
held an evening with speakers from Gloucestershire
Constabulary to talk about the badger cull; this was
well attended by members from all over
Gloucestershire YFC.
Newent YFC has competed within Gloucestershire
at skittles, ten pin bowling and the annual quiz. The
club has also been well represented at parties
throughout the year, proving that Newent YFC work
hard, but play harder! As a club we had particular
-Gloucestershire Federation of Young Farmers’ Clubs Yearbook 14/15 | 59
success at the County Rally where we saw numerous
members win 1st, 2nd or 3rd prizes in individual or group
competitions and we came 2nd overall in the ‘fun
section’ and we won the Junior Progress Cup! We
placed 4th overall at Rally with 6719 points; the best
that Newent YFC has done for a long time!
As a club we are really looking forward to 2015/16
and are determined to make it our best year yet!

Olveston YFC
Alice Harrison Chairman14/15
Olveston YFC have achieved many brilliant things
within the last year, and therefore have a great
deal to be proud of!
Firstly, I would like to congratulate each member
that competed in the county rally competitions,
and also thank them for the hard work and effort
they've put in! Also big shout out to those who
placed, you've all done such a small club very
proud!
I would like to highlight an achievement I am
particularly proud of, that being the juniors taking
first prize home with their 'Royal Family' theme box
at the Three Counties Show! Yay!
Olveston are also very proud and grateful for being
the chosen club for some very bright young stock
judgers this year, including Will Sprackman, George
Gill, and Will Wittingham, well done on your
achievements!
To just highlight our fundraising and social events,
Olveston had a successful harvest supper the end
of last year, raising around £1000! Also, as I write this
we are now one week away from hosting our party
at Washingpool Farm in Easter Compton, and we
are all hoping this will bring out club plenty of
recognition and success!
-Gloucestershire Federation of Young Farmers’ Clubs Yearbook 14/15 | 61
Finally, as the current Chairman of the club, I have
to say I've definitely had my struggles (being
completely new to young farmers anyway) and
couldn't have done literally anything this year
without my brilliant friend and secretary Sophie
Hilleard, who has guided me through everything,
written all of my agendas and arranged every
meeting, and has never let go of her enthusiasm
once, even though half of our small club need a
stick rather than a carrot to do anything! However,
they are the people who make Olveston what it is,
and we never want them to change!
Personally, I've learnt some lifelong skills in my role
with YFC, including public speaking, delegation,
and to be the backbone and support of our
members when they need me! Most importantly,
Olveston and GFYFC has provided me with some
great new friendships, which I will never forget!
I hope I haven't done a bad job, and I look forward
to passing on the baton to someone who I think will
take the club far! Thank you,

Painswick YFC
Mike Handley Chairman 14/15
Painswick have had another active and successful
year. We started off with the green machine at
Frampton showground, where we got ourselves
new members and advised visitors as to where their
local YFC clubs are located. We have had a busy
year full of activities such as laser tag, skittles,
rounder’s, tubing, hosting a bonfire and attempting
to play golf with some rather hilarious results.
As a club we once again had a good go at charity
work. After having a talk from the air ambulance
and blood bikers, we set to work, raising £100 from
carol singing and doing our first operation
Christmas child. We also had an attempt at a
speed dating fundraiser, which proved to be very
entertaining and became more of a comedy
evening than a money maker.
Competition wise, all members have put in a great
effort at giving everything a go. Our successes
include 1st in 5k cross country, 2nd in bowling, and
3rd in the skittles. Pre-rally and Rally left Painswick
with some excellent results. Kate Williams coming
first in senior photography, Danielle McNulty
coming first in beef, David Ractliffe coming first
winning the farm evaluation trophy. Marita Warner
King coming second in horses, and Rhondda
Warner King coming first in beef junior on Pre-Rally,
and first place at Three Counties. Laura Ractliffe
-Gloucestershire Federation of Young Farmers’ Clubs Yearbook 14/15 | 63
entered the SWA stockman of the year, coming
second out of twenty four. Interestingly we were
placed 2nd in the 'acting out a bedtime story
competition' which resulted in a third placing at the
Three Counties Showground. A brilliant effort from
all those involved.
This has been a great year, and I would like to
thank every member of Painswick YFC for making it
all possible.

Sodbury Vale YFC
Kim Daniels Chairman 14/15
Ambitious, nervous,
excited and hopeful, I
took on the role of
Chairman for Sodbury
Vale Young Farmers.
We got off to a flying start, Vice Chairman Pippa
Gale and I went to a medieval farm open day to
raise some awareness for the club, and during this
day we enrolled a couple of keen junior members.
Throughout the year the awareness of our junior
team has raised along with numbers. Sodbury vale
currently has a great group of juniors that have
done us proud throughout the year.
We celebrated Christmas in style with our third
Christmas dinner dance. Sodbury vale and friends
invaded a whole pub for the night raising money
for our club with ticket sales booming, a great raffle
and an auction. We hope to hold the 4th Sodbury
vale Christmas dinner dance this year so make sure
to get it in your diaries.
We have taken part in many different activities
such as Weston's cider tour, go-karting, bell ringing,
clay shooting, ice skating and the list goes on.
We have also learnt a lot with several different farm
visits, talks from vets, anchor butter with Arla, and
even about A.I. with ALTA
-Gloucestershire Federation of Young Farmers’ Clubs Yearbook 14/15 | 65
Our first outing of the year was an interesting farm
walk, we learnt about the newly installed Lelly
milking robots with some 30 odd members
attending!
With our increase in the number of members across
the ages we thought we had better introduce
them to the county, so we attended many different
events such as county skittles, sports day, carcase
judging, South West Area, National AGM, plenty of
parties, pre rally and main RALLY. We had a
fantastic time and many of us stepped in to
competitions unknown! We all achieved greatly,
learning along the way and although not 1st we
managed to secure 8th place overall for county
rally and some of us even went on to the Three
Counties.
And to our latest fundraiser for the club. Berkley
show has always supported us, and this year was
no different. This year we held our annual tea,
coffee and cake stand, although not tipping down
the cloudy day produced lots of thirsty customers
looking for something to warm their hands proving
the stand very successful! Many of us baked cakes
and we all got stuck in to lend a hand on the show
day!
We also had a stand offering a prize for the person
who could guess the amount of balloons in our
tractor, kindly lent to us by Lister Wilder.
Congratulations to the winner! On this stand we
were also advertising young farmers and what
we're all about.

Royal Agricultural
University YFC
Royal Agricultural University YFC is the
newest club in the county and has grown
substantially since to now proudly having 50
members since the start of the academic year.
We are the only club in the county that all of its
members are over 18. We meet every Tuesday at
RAU 7.30pm, either having a meeting, playing
skittles, brewery tour and stock judging, anything
the members want to do.

South Beaufort YFC
Helen Roe
South Beaufort have had a quieter year than most.
Last November we held our 70th annual Dinner and
Dance at Tortworth Court and invited Roger Evans,
columnist from the Farmers Weekly as speaker, and
of course he was delighted to attend. We had 260
to a 3 course meal and had a DJ afterwards.
Everyone was so complimentary of what Sam and I
had achieved, it really was a fab night, had by all.
My granny still talks about it now! We were lucky
enough to get a mention in the Farmers Weekly the
following week, so that put us on the map! Sorry
but I couldn’t find a copy of the column.
Back in June we visited West Kington Stud to see
the Stallion Centre, mares and foals and
Competition yard, hosted by Tessa Clarke. Instead
of our show we decided that we should arrange a
Treasure Hunt, which was well planned by the
committee and took place on Sunday 6th
September.
Brian Symes has stepped down as president, so I’m
going to write to several ‘older’ members and see if
they would be interested in taking on the role. My
Mother has showed a brief interest….. Our AGM is
being held on 20th October, at The Bull pub,
Hinton, in their back room at 7.30pm till 11am.

Tewkesbury YFC
Sarah Pugh Secretary 14/15
Another year for
Tewkesbury YFC has
passed with lots of laughter
and memories made. The
club has had a successful
year with a lot of events proving great interest with
its members.
Throughout the year we have had many activities
for the members to enjoy including golf, football,
ice skating and pottery. An interesting meeting this
year was to Eastonor pottery, which also involved
Newent YFC allowing us all to socialise with
members from different clubs and some incredible
clay features were made.
We were kindly invited to join Corse YFC on a farm
tour to Tim Juckes, Treddington House Farm to look
around his chicken sheds. This was a very interesting
meeting, learning about the whole life cycle of a
chicken. The highlight was definitely walking
amongst the chickens and holding the 1 week old
chicks.
Our fundraising this year was not as hectic as
previous years, but nonetheless we raised some
money through various activities. At the start of
December we did a quiz and casserole evening. As
-Gloucestershire Federation of Young Farmers’ Clubs Yearbook 14/15 | 71
you can imagine Vicky Hicks, the quiz master, really
did keep us entertained for the evening. This was
certainly a ‘quiz with a twist’ after every other
round the scores were added up and the winning
and losing team had to go to the stage to take
part in a challenge. Whichever team won the
challenge ended up taking the lead, as you can
imagine this brought a lot of excitement to the
room!
The annual Christmas meal was a very popular
evening, with almost every member attending and
some of their better halves too! It was also lovely to
see some past and committee members join us.
The senior members represented the club at all of
the social events including Winter Wonderland,
Glitter Ball, SWA and the rally do ... although some
may have more hazy memories of them than
others!
As always we have a strong interest from members
in stock judging with Steph Watkins, Caroline
Bennett, Clare Kerr, Bryan Watkins, Rich Carter,
Mike McDonagh and I all bringing
home prize cards at the
Gloucestershire Rally carcase and
livestock judging. Myself and Steph
then went on to come 1st and 2nd at
the Three Counties Carcase judging
-Gloucestershire Federation of Young Farmers’ Clubs Yearbook 14/15 | 72
respectively. I qualified to
represent Gloucestershire in
the National Finals for dairy
judging and went on to come
7th in the intermediate section
at the Great Yorkshire show.
Gloucestershire Rally was a great achievement for
the club this year with nearly every member
competing. The best highlights were getting 1st prize
in both the main and cube exhibit and 3rd prize for
the junior exhibit. When it came to the prize giving
we were really pleased when we found out we had
won the Northern Group Cup. This was for the club
obtaining the highest marks in proportion to their
current membership. This meant a lot to the club
because we had all really put so much effort into
the rally especially being such a small club. I was
really proud to be part of Tewkesbury YFC that day!
A group of Gloucestershire YF’s took part in the
Three Peaks Challenge and Rich and I were some
of the team members. This was a brilliant weekend
and we both enjoyed it. I managed to complete
the challenge in 21 hours and 50 minutes whist Rich
was a member of the excellent support team being
one of the car drivers. A huge thank you must go
out to all the members, the parents, the advisory,
club leaders and our President Rachel Perry who
have all contributed greatly to the club this year. I
wish the club every success in the coming years.

Westbury on Severn
YFC
Rob King Chairman 14/15
Another successful year
for Westbury-on-Severn
YFC. This year being my
first year as chairman with
my partner in crime, Stu
Nixon as secretary, we were nervous of what the
year was going to bring but knew it had to be a
good one!
Westbury hold 3 main fund raising events during the
year, the first being our annual harvest supper at
Westbury village hall, raising money for club funds.
This evening has become one of my favourite
memories of the year. The Monday before the
harvest supper, club leader Jo Batt asked Fran how
many tickets we had sold so far and replied 12. Stu
& I had that terrible sickening feeling this was going
to be a disaster, trying to stay positive I said it’ll be
fine and will all come together in the end. With
many phone calls we managed to sell 120 tickets
by the Friday becoming a sell-out.
Hot on the heels of the harvest supper is our annual
bonfire night 5th November at the Red Hart
Blaisdon. With preparation taking a few weeks with
-Gloucestershire Federation of Young Farmers’ Clubs Yearbook 14/15 | 74
fire building involving myself,
Stu, Jake Bennett, tractors
trailers and JCBs collecting
and delivering wood to the
pub which isn’t all bad. With
a BBQ to keep everyone
warm & fed, run by the girls, a big thanks to them
as it’s not an easy job keeping 700 people fed. The
fireworks display was the best yet being let off by
Mike Baylis and his merry men, who without them
the night wouldn’t go ahead. This is our biggest
fundraiser of the year & I would like to thank all the
members for their help and enthusiasm from
flipping burgers to pushing cars out the muddy car
park.
With a full packed year of meetings which ranged
from a road safety talk, farm visit, innuendo bingo,
real life hungry frogs and stock judging. They were
well attended and everyone seemed to have fun.
Westbury love a social event, attending all the
parties from other counties to our own and joining
other club events with joint meetings. As we
entered the spring the YFC holiday season started
at Weston for SWA which was well attended by
Westbury, making friends with the rest of county
and sticking together whilst trying out all the local
establishments in Weston! On a serious note while
there we had several members competing.
Watching all these I felt a very proud chairman and
-Gloucestershire Federation of Young Farmers’ Clubs Yearbook 14/15 | 75
makes you realise how great YFC is and what you
can achieve. Stu and Fran made up part of the
senior public speaking team, Grace Smart in junior
member of the year, Abbey Smith and Cate Mace
in the dancing which went on to the national finals
and finally the Panto with Stu, Cate, Abbey, Beth
Pealing, Sarah Tobin, Lydia and Lauren Penn all
taking part with this also going to nationals!
The biggest event of the year is the County Rally
with everyone wanting to win! As previous winners
Westbury were feeling the pressure with other clubs
wanting to beat us. I can’t thank the Westbury
members enough for their hours of hard works
towards this and am very proud winning many
trophies and winning the Rally overall again! Thank
you everyone.
I could keep writing about this fantastic club and
what we have achieved in the last year but had
better stop. I would just like to say a big thank you
to all the parents, grandparents, club leaders,
supporters of the club together with our amazing
members, it’s been a privilege to be your
chairman. Most of all a massive thank you to Stu
Nixon as without him
this year would have
had been a disaster
but he kept me
going and we the
boys did it!

Winchcombe YFC
Charles Day Chairman 14/15
Winchcombe YFC began the year volunteering at
the Winchcombe Country Show where we helped
with car parking, running the bar and winning the
first of the club’s trophies for the year in It’s A Knock
Out.
This year saw
Winchcombe YFC turn 70
years young! The club
celebrated in style with a
large marquee filled with
some of the founding members of the club to the
present and many from in between. It was a hugely
successful night with just over 150 people attending
and dancing the night away until the early hours.
The club was in full swing
with some memorable
meetings. Such as Human
Hungry Hippos a game
created by Westbury-on-
Severn YFC. Which
involved plant pots, skate boards and lots of tennis
balls. Another good meeting was a talk form
Gloucestershire’s Armed Response & Dog Police
Units. Where the officers showed us the weapons
they use and the dogs they train.
-Gloucestershire Federation of Young Farmers’ Clubs Yearbook 14/15 | 77
This year GFYFC Pre
Rally & Rally were held
on current or past
member’s farms and
with Sarah Albutt as
Rally Chairman the
pressure was on the
club to perform on
home turf.
The club began improving its stock judging skills
with numerous meetings and the hard work paid
off. We had some fantastic results from carcase
and pre rally. At pre rally the junior tug of war team
came away with first place and well-earned after
many nights of practice paid off.
Just as Pre Rally finished a short two week turn
around and Rally was upon us. With all but two
competitions not entered the club pulled out all
the stops. The club achieved its highest place at
Rally with 3rd overall. A fantastic achievement for all
the members involved.
Three members of Winchcombe YFC completed
Three Peaks Challenge with the GFYFC Team and
helped raise over £3500.
It has been a hugely challenging yet rewarding
year for the club, long may its success continue.

Wotton & Dursley
Vale YFC
Rebecca Mann Chairman 14/15
We have reached the end of yet another YFC year.
As a chairman, I am extremely proud of every
member. This year has been fantastic for Wotton &
Dursley; we have had the largest number of
members that W&D has ever seen; 56 members!
We have had great success from
the club that nearly folded a few
years back. We were first in both
county bowling and the county
quiz, winning the jump rope at
nationals, successful stock judgers
at rally. Firstly, we managed to
retain our National Jump Rope
title for the second year running! Huge
congratulations the team: Sam Adams, Dan
Whincup, Tess Bateman, Debbie Millington and
Coach Trace! They all trained extremely hard to
keep their title and I am very proud to call them
Wotton & Dursley members!
Rally! What more can I say! Our hard work and lolly
and I persistent nagging definitely paid off! We got
the furthest W&D have ever got in the rally - We
came 2nd out of the 15 clubs within
Gloucestershire! I am extremely grateful to all our
-Gloucestershire Federation of Young Farmers’ Clubs Yearbook 14/15 | 79
members who competed in pre rally, rally and
helped with all the preparation and training for
both. Also, very well done to Sarah Albutt who held
her first very successful rally.
As a club we have raised a total of £1,200 towards
our club and chosen charities; RABI and The James
Hopkins Trust. We managed this by holding a
bonfire night, pie night and a cheese and wine
evening. Due to the success of the pie night for its
second year, we will definitely be holding it again in
2016!
Finally, we have all had a fantastic social year, with
all the parties; hell raiser, winter wonderland,
harvest ball, glitter ball, Valentine's ball, spring fling,
SWA, AGM, the list is endless! It would be safe to say
we have had a good year partying and cannot
wait for the 2015/2016 year to begin!
Thanks again for a brilliant year and we look
forward to what 2016 holds!
