MD's MESSAGE

Dear readers,

I sincerely hope that we have seen off the worst of COVID-19. As we approach the end of 2020, it is undeniable to
note it has been a tough year for India, raising many challenges, fears and instabilities. On the brighter side of
things, I am happy to see that we have been able to stand together in solidarity to face of this global pandemic, as
we take positive and practical steps to resume operations safely at our sites. We continue to keep safety and
health at the helm, ensuring safe distancing and sanitisation for our colleagues operating at our sites, while other
office-based colleagues continue to work from home as offices across India remain closed.

The final quarter, traditionally ropes in a bounty of sales, primarily owing to the festive season beginning from
Navratri to Dussera, Diwali and ending with Christmas. The early signs are promising, with the economy seeing an
uptick in the purchase of white goods, home appliances, cars and two-wheelers. The Construction and Packaging
sectors also mirrors the aggregate in the economy. As Unlock 5.0 permits the opening of malls and retail
showrooms, we are hopeful this will spell a robust demand for us.

In this edition, we find out more about topics including the circular economy, the single use plastic ban and waste
recycling, conducted via virtual seminars. Our Research and Development Centre (RDC) in India has also made
good headways by offering customised solutions to revolutionise the ceiling fan, making it lighter, enhancing its
aesthetics and supporting energy efficiency.

We continue to comply with stringent safety requirements, and have demonstrated our preparedness to the
government officials who visited our Katol plant. On the digital front, we successfully migrated all files to the new
Digital Workspace platform, enabling our Quality, Environment and Safety teams across plants to be able to
access all information without any downtime.

I extend my best wishes to everyone for the upcoming festive season. Celebrate responsibly and exercise safety,
ensuring safe distancing and frequent sanitisation. Wising you all a healthy and prosperous Diwali.

Officers interact with Safety Team at Katol plant

DRILL SKILLS

'Be prepared and careful at all times' is the golden mantra Demonstration of water spray on the styrene tank
to ensure safety at all our plants

August is observed as a “Safety Month” by the Director
Industrial Safety and Health (DISH), Labour and Employment
Department, Government of Gujarat. As part of this year's
safety month activities, D B Gamit, DISH (Godhra), Sunil Patel,
Certified Surgeon and Vijay Atiya, Mamlatdar District Disaster
Management (Halol) visited our Katol plant on August 26 and
under their guidance, the plant's safety team performed a
safety drill.

The drill was conducted based on a mock scenario that styrene
leakage had occurred from the flange point as the tanker was
unloading the styrene. The safety team conducted a rapid
evacuation as required by the Factory Inspector's instructions.
No siren was blown. An emergency announcement was made
via the plant's public announcement system, with the
emergency and first aid members on standby mode.

The fitter was geared up with the breathing apparatus (BA) set
to reach the leaking flange point. Using a medium velocity
(MV) water spray, the fitter then sprayed the water onto the
walls of the styrene tank, to reduce the temperature in the tank.
The team then monitored the styrene tank till the cooldown
temperature was attained. Following this, the safety team was
asked to operate the portable diesel trolley to demonstrate
the plant's firefighting preparedness.

The Inspector also held an informative discussion with the
team on the safety measures of styrene storage tanks and the
learnings from an earlier gas leak incident at LG Polymer plant
in Vishakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh.

A new online platform for Quality Environment and Safety
(QES) India Team

Since the introduction of the new Digital Workspace, our
offices across India have started to use Microsoft Teams as the
new tool for project and team collaboration. Share Point Team
spaces will also take over and replace the old Share Point
infrastructure, with the latter scheduled for decommissioning
soon.

On August 17, the Global IT Team successfully completed the
big data migration of India's QES Share point to the new
Digital Workspace called 'Quality Environment & Safety
India'. This entire migration exercise was a herculean effort
involving cluster teams across all four sites and the Research
and Development Centre to audit all existing files, links,
favourite data and make necessary data archiving and
assigning the new Uniform Resource Locator (URL) web
address.

Commenting on the migration exercise, Dr. Kanak Dass, Head
Quality Management - India, Quality Management APAC &
India says, “Vital documents, standard operating procedures
(SOPs), technical data sheets, translations, certifications and
other files related to QES totalling more than 3,000
documents were checked, archived and migrated to the new
digital space. This gives our users a one window access to all
the necessary files and an online discussion space'.
