SAINT SOPHIA CATHEDRAL

MIAMI, FLORIDA

Sunday June 10th, 2018

2nd Sunday of Matthew

The Holy Martyrs Alexander and Antonina

The holy Martyrs Alexander and

Antonina were from the town of

Cardamon (or Crodamon). Antoni-

na was arrested by Festus the

Governor and, because she refused

to deny Christ, he had her placed in

a brothel. But Alexander, sent by

divine providence, came in unto

her and gave her his cloak; with her

head covered, she escaped without

having been defiled. When Alex-

ander was discovered, he was

taken before Festus, and with

Antonina was tortured and burned

to death.

Resurrectional Apolytikion - Tone 1

Τοῦ λίθου σφραγισθέντος ὑπὸ τῶν Ἰουδαίων,

The stone had been secured with a seal by the Judeans, * and a guard of soldiers was watching
Your immaculate body. * You rose on the third day, O Lord * and Savior, granting life unto the
world. * For this reason were the powers of heaven crying out to You, O Life-giver: * Glory to

Your resurrection, O Christ; * glory to Your eternal rule; * glory to Your dispensation, only
One who loves mankind.

Apolytikion for St. Sophia Tone 3

Χαίρει ἔχουσα ἡ Ἐκκλησία, .

Having you and your three daughters, as a sacred boast the Church rejoices, and with gladness
she praises you, You are to me my pride and joy, as are the most precious relics of your children;
Oh Glorious Martyrs: Sophia, Faith, Hope and Love, intercede to Christ our God to save

our souls.

O Protection of Christians that cannot be put to shame, mediation unto the creator most con-
stant: O despise not the voices of those who have sinned; but be quick, O good one, to come
unto our aid, who in faith cry unto thee: Hasten to intercession and speed thou to make suppli-

cation, O thou who dost ever protect, O Theotokos, them that honor thee

Epistle Reading
The Reading is from St. Paul's Letter to the Romans 2:10-16

Brethren, glory and honor and peace for every one who does good, the Jew first and
also the Greek. For God shows no partiality. All who have sinned without the law will
also perish without the law, and all who have sinned under the law will be judged by the
law. For it is not the hearers of the law who are righteous before God, but the doers of

the law who will be justified. When Gentiles who have not the law do by nature what the
law requires, they are a law to themselves, even though they do not have the law. They
show that what the law requires is written on their hearts, while their conscience also bears
witness and their conflicting thoughts accuse or perhaps excuse them on that day when,
according to my gospel, God judges the secrets of men by Christ Jesus.

Gospel Reading:

Matthew 4:18-232nd Sunday of Matthew

At that time, as Jesus walked by the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon who is
called Peter and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen.
And he said to them, "Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men." Immediately they left
their nets and followed him. And going on from there he saw two other brothers, James the
son of Zebedee and John his brother, in the boat with Zebedee their father, mending their
nets, and he called them. Immediately they left their boat and their father, and followed him.
And he went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues and preaching the gospel of
the kingdom and healing every disease and every infirmity among the people.

TOYS FOR PEDIATRIC TRANSPLANT PATIENTS

On behalf of the children of the Miami transplant Institute I cannot
express how grateful we are for your kind donation of 332 Toys
collected from your parish members for Transplant children. Here
are some photos of when the bags were dropped off. We had one
patient in our lobby as we walked in and he was so excited and over-
whelmed by the choices of toys. His smile it up the room! I will send
additional photos from our Transplant clinic from time to time as par-
ents may allow.

Thank you again so very much and please express our sincerest thanks to Saint Sophia Greek Orthodox
Cathedral and to the Greek Orthodox Ladies Philoptochtos
Society Chapter 5006.
Your support of this project through the General Federation of
Women’s Clubs District 11 will be an amazing example of service
and generosity for the rest of the clubs involved.
I will be sending a formal letter of thanks to the Cathedral address,
please let me know what address I may personally copy you at as
well.
Once again, our sincerest thanks!
