ROSTA FACTSHEET
The ownership of the Core Skills Register resided with Skills for Health.
RoSTA (Register of Skills Training and Achievements) is the replacement database for the CSR (Core Skills
Register).
RoSTA is being developed in partnership with the Cheshire and Merseyside CSU
Cheshire and Merseyside CSU are also developers and responsible for other HENW supported IT solutions
including PETD and CPD Apply.
RoSTA will support Core Skills in the Junior Doctor (inc Foundation), Student (both HEI and FE) and Primary
Care (GP) workstreams
The first phase of the RoSTA rollout will include the Person / Placement / Core Skills Training information
for all Junior Doctors that completed training in 2015.
RoSTA enables the Recording and Reporting of Mandatory & Core Skills training taking place in NHS
Trusts, HEI’s, FE, and Partner Organisations across the HENW patch.
Learners, and their organisation will benefit from system notifications of non-compliance being sent to
them directly

ROSTA GOING FORWARD
Feedback on the day at the Core Skills Regional event held at Haydock Park on
Wednesday 11th November strongly indicated that core skills stakeholders see the
adoption and implementation of RoSTA, the ‘Register of Skills, Training and
Achievement’ as a major priority. This product will impact on all stakeholders going
forward and they need to understand how it will work in practice and how it will benefit
them. Here we hope to answer a few burning questions.
To enhance this, the Core Skills Team are developing materials and training to support
the rollout and uptake by partner organisations and users.
WHATS COMING NEXT?
Plans are underway to develop an overview video which will present the benefits and features of
RoSTA. This is aimed at those who lead core skills in our partner organisation and those who have
responsibility for induction, training, OD and mandatory and core skills subject matter experts. Those
who need an overview of the system will also find this of use. The video will be available on our
website soon.
WHAT ARE THE PLANS FOR USER TRAINING?
Our plans for training to support RoSTA users is to offer a blended approach, making use of
eLearning, workshop presentations and readers. Learning outcomes will be based on user group
needs, with an emphasis placed on Information Governance and the quality of the data required by
the system.

WHEN WILL THE SYSTEM BE IMPLEMENTED?
The NWCST are currently populating RoSTA with training records of Junior Doctors,
Health Care Students and GP Practices. Initially this will be training that has been
completed since August 2015. We expect this to be completed for the 2nd week in
January 2016.
Once this data is in place and we have completed our system and quality checks
RoSTA will be rolled out to end users. This is expected to be in time for the next
Junior Doctor rotation and Health Care student intake, which will take place in
March 2016.
The Junior Doctor February rotation will take place shortly after the rollout
commences. To support this, the NWCST will work with the Junior Doctor User
group to ensure the data needed to support rotation will be available to users from
Go Live
End user training to support this rollout is planned to commence in January 2016.
