Having a “Grand” Time
Kids Camp Chalks Up Another Successful Year
PHOTOS BY CHARLIE HENKLE

10 Ranch Reporter | September 2019

The second Heritage Ranch Kids Camp of 2019
ended July 26, capping another successful year
of fun, learning and family memories for par-
ticipants of all ages.
This was the fifth year that Ann and Ken Cox
have enrolled two of their grandchildren. “We love
participating both as grandparents and as vol-
unteers,” Ann said. “The time spent with our
‘grands’ at Kids Camp is priceless: Max and

Audrey look forward to participating each
year just as we look forward to having
them all to ourselves for the week.”

This year also marked 11 consecutive
seasons that Eric Hoyle, Community Events Di-
rector, has run week-long summer camps for resi-
dents’ grandchildren. From its start with just 40 kids in
2009, the program has evolved and grown.

“Now we include a full program of games, arts and
crafts activities, golf, tennis and a field day on the Ranch,
as well as visits to local museums and educational attrac-
tions,” Eric said. “For example, the theme of this year’s
camp was ‘Jurassic Ranch,’ so our campers went to Bill-
ings Productions in Allen to see where animatronic dino-
saurs are made for dinosaur exhibits around the world.”

Eric said the extraordinary success of the program is
due in no small measure to the residents who volunteer
their time and labor. “And some of them don’t even
have grandchildren!”

Ken Cox can’t imagine a summer without Kids Camp.
“Each day is carefully planned to give the children a
unique experience,” he said. “Meeting new friends,
learning new skills and fun activities are all part of the
‘grand’ time at Kids Camp.”

If you missed the opportunity to enroll your grand-
children this year, mark your calendar now for the 2020
camps: June 22-26 and July 27-31. Enrollment will open
Wednesday, April 1, at 4:00 p.m.
