Tee Talk with Tony Planned Clubhouse Closure The Clubhouse is scheduled to close from Monday, March 4, 2024, through Saturday, March 16, 2024, for repairs of the electrical system and the installation of the new electrical panel. Although the scheduled closure is for two weeks, we are optimistic it can be shortened. Any earlier reopening will be communicated to the community through an email blast. The information provided below aims to keep you informed of our current plans. Additional detailed information will be provided to the Community through email blasts as we get closer to the March 4th closure. Clubhouse: The Clubhouse including facilities such as the Library, Fitness Center, Indoor and Outdoor Pools, Clubhouse Restrooms, Golf Shop, Grill, and Outpost will be inaccessible to all members during the closure. Access will resume once the Clubhouse reopens. The parking lot and cart crossing areas will undergo re-striping. During the striping of the parking lot, access will be limited and directed with signage. Vendors will be performing multiple projects such as renovating the kitchen ceiling, replacing the Billiard Room divider wall track, and carpet cleaning. Vendors will provide their own generators and equipment. During the closure, the staff will undertake refresh projects like cleaning banquet chairs and addressing clubhouse repairs and painting. Club & HOA Statements and Payments: Club statements will be emailed on March 1st and mailed to those receiving them by US Postal Service by March 4th. Services usually offered by the Front Desk and HOA office within the Clubhouse will not be available during the closure. Club account payments can be made with credit card and checks with the Golf Shop staff, located near the Cart Barn. The HOA Front Desk will resume accepting Club account payments when the Clubhouse reopens. Questions regarding HOA or Villa accounts should be directed to Icon Management at [email protected] or 941-747-7261. Front Gate: Concrete repairs at the front gate/Heritage Boulevard are slated to begin during the closure. Street signage to direct traffic will be placed within the community when the concrete project begins. The closure of the front gate and portions of Heritage Boulevard will last for a minimum of 2-1/2 weeks, potentially extending up to a month based upon weather conditions and the curing rate of the concrete. Future email blasts and articles in the Ranch Reporter will provide members with information on street closures and detour routes. 3
Golf: The Cart Barn electrical is on a different transformer than the Clubhouse, allowing for continued golf operations. The Golf Course, Putting and Chipping Green will maintain their regular operating hours. Golf Shop staff will be positioned either outside the Golf Shop or in the Cart Barn, depending on the weather, for continued operations. The Golf Shop phone system will operate the same as usual, with phone lines opening at 6:30 am. Tee times can be booked 10 days in advance for Annual Passholders and 9 days in advance for HOA members. Temporary Porta-Potties will be situated near the Cart Barn, providing convenient restroom facilities for staff, member, and guests. The Golf Course restrooms will remain accessible. A Beverage Cart will actively be circulating on the Golf Course, accompanied by a stationary Beverage Cart parked near the Cart Barn. Both Beverage Carts will provide a selection of sandwiches, hot dogs, brats, as well as alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. Purchases made through the Beverage Carts using Club numbers will contribute towards fulfilling Food Minimums. Sports Courts: Members will have continued access to the Sports Courts and Nature Trails throughout the closure. Temporary Porta-Potties, situated near the Cart Barn, will be accessible for use by staff, members, and guests during this period. Food & Beverage: Food & Beverage services in the Grill and Outpost will be unavailable. Beverage Carts will be in operation, offering a variety of options including cold sandwiches, hot dogs, brats, as well as alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. The Management team will redirect their office phones to their cell phones to promptly attend to any urgent issues that cannot wait until the Clubhouse reopens. They will also actively monitor their emails during regular business hours. We acknowledge that unforeseen challenges can arise despite the best planning. In the event of an early reopening, the Community will be notified through an email blast. 4

See you on the courts! Anita Strohl www.heritageranchpickleballclub.com 9 Spring Brings New Beginnings Many would say a shiny new paddle, but in reality, the answer is SHOES! What is the correct shoe to be safe while performing the footwork needed to play the game? Our first thought when trying out a new sport is to slip on that reliable pair of running shoes, but that is a bad idea. Most importantly the wrong shoe heightens the possibility of causing a severe injury by a fall on the court. Correct court shoes will also minimize aches and pains of the legs and feet that may occur over time. So before you purchase expensive paddles and fancy sport attire, buy yourself a good pair of non-marking court shoes that are made for lateral movement on a hard surface You will feel more agile, with better traction on the court leading to many hours of Pickleball fun making the right shoes a great investment. 10 Featured player of the Month Sarah Richards Sarah is another great example of how pickle ball enhances your Heritage Ranch experience. Playing a sport that is not only fun and a great form of exercise, but a sure way to make new friends! Sarah and her husband Curt were both new to the game a few months ago and have now become regulars on the court. We asked Sarah how she become a pickleball enthusiast, “I have been playing Pickleball for about a year. I took the HRPC beginner lessons in the fall of 2022 but didn’t really play until after taking a refresher class in the spring of 2023. Curt and I got introduced to Pickleball when we went to Florida quite a few years ago and took a lesson to see what it was all about. We loved it but unfortunately when we returned home there was nowhere for us to play. Of course, once we moved to Heritage Ranch that all changed! We were excited to start playing and have the opportunity to meet other people since we were new to the community. It’s been a great way to make new friends! We have lived in Heritage Ranch since June of 2022 and my father lived here since 2007. We previously resided in Star Creek in Allen for 11 years. We decided to move to Heritage Ranch because we were both retired and wanted to move to an active adult golfing community. We looked at several other communities in DFW as well as outside of Dallas, but ultimately decided Heritage Ranch was where we wanted to be. And of course, being close to my dad was an added bonus! I was in the mortgage business for almost 30 years and retired in 2017. After retiring I got involved with Meals on Wheels and I deliver meals in Allen once a week. We have 2 sons and our oldest son, and his wife live in Kansas City along with our 7-year-old grandson Noah and 3-year-old granddaughter Addie. Our youngest son and his wife live in Mansfield, Tx along with our other grandson Hudson, who is 3, and our 2-month-old granddaughter Henley. There is nothing more special than being a grandparent (Nana) and we try to see them as often as we can. And of course, we love spending time with the new friends we’ve made in Heritage Ranch as well as all of our old friends we’ve made over the years.”

Food & Beverage Beth Lewis bites IT'S THE LUCK OF THE IRISH! Unfortunately, the closing of the Clubhouse early this month to install new electrical equipment impacts your restaurants and bars. They will be closed, but…talk about luck! There will be a refreshed Spring menu when everything re-opens. While some of your favorites will be rotating off this coming menu, they will be back later and some that were not on the current menu will return. Chef Jason is offering new items, and we hope some of his brand-new selections will become some of your new favorites! Chef will introduce five new appetizers, two new salads, three new wraps, fish tacos, and a chicken sandwich. To the dinner menu, he is adding Tuscan Chicken, Crab-Stuffed Trout, Pork Cutlets with an Italian-inspired artichoke sauce, Blackened Swordfish with mango and avocado salsa, and Pecan-Crusted Chicken, as well as two new pasta dishes (penne vodka; shrimp scampi with gnocchi). He also will be presenting several new desserts: peanut butter cheesecake, chocolate tuxedo bombe, blueberry flapjack cake, and Key Lime pie. (Tell your mother you are having fruit for dessert. It will make her happy to know you are making wise food choices.) The Chef's Specials will continue to be offered every Friday and Saturday evening from 5-8 pm. Daily drink specials will be available, as before. Please note that there will be no formal Chef 's Dinner in March, however. DINNER TIMES AT THE GRILL The Grill closes from 3-4 pm so the staff can reset for Happy Hour and dinner. Every day, Happy Hour is from 4-6 pm, and dinner is 4-8 pm. The kitchen closes at 8 pm, but the bar is open until 10 pm. RESERVATIONS Please let us know when you'll be dining with us, particularly for the following meals: Friday (half-price bottles of wine with order of an entrée) and Saturday night, Saturday breakfast, Sunday breakfast and brunch buffet. Also included are theme nights and holiday buffets, which always have limited seating. The reason for reservations is so we can provide enough waitstaff for you, so we need to know you are coming! FOOD & BEVERAGE MINIMUMS Your minimums for the first half of the year began February 1, 2024, and will close July 31, 2024. ADMINISTRATIVE NOTES The new year is bringing many changes to the Food & Beverage Department. During 2023, the Food & Beverage Committee, comprised of residents, was responsible for overseeing many upgrades and changes to the menu, as well as improved training for the waitstaff. Although these projects were successful, coinciding with them were challenges that resulted in some price increases on the menu. Food cost was part of it, but the primary cost was labor. Rest assured that the Food & Beverage Department is making choices and plans to maximize value for your dollar. Another significant change is in the Food and Beverage Committee itself. The Board asked the Committee to continue to monitor the general Food and Beverage operation, but to focus on the financial side, going forward. Accordingly, leadership of the Committee is changing. Ron Gazarek (former Vice Chair) will now assume the position of Chair. Ron's background in finance will put him in the perfect position to evaluate the financial segment of the Food and Beverage operation. Barbara Gillies (former Chair) will now assume the position of Vice Chair. Her experience with food and service will be invaluable in working with Tierza and Chef Jason to maintain the progress that has been made. She also will work with Patty Wake (Director of Catering and Events) and with the Outpost to ensure that those areas are the best they can be As always, come enjoy yourself at your restaurants and bars 12

Wanting to remain active and near their twelve grandchildren (ranging in ages from fourteen to twenty eight) Heritage Ranch provided a great opportunity to do both. Sewing Club Whether you are new to Heritage Ranch or have been here awhile, please come and visit our Open House on March 21st and see what Nifty Needles is all about. Our group makes and donates quilts to local organizations like Samaritan Inn, North Park Nursing, Children’s Advocacy, Hope’s Door, Hope Clinic, Grateful Gratitude, Breast Cancer, and the Veteran’s Administration Bonham. During our Open House, you will be able to see our quilt making in progress. Information about Nifty Needles will be available, as well as displays of quilts, toiletry bags, breast cancer items, and other items we have completed for donation. In addition to making quilts, we also collect unused sample and travel size toiletry items such as, shampoos, conditioners, lotions, soaps, toothpaste and single sealed toothbrushes. We welcome donations of unused travel size items from vacations, trips and dental visits. The items are then placed in individual toiletry bags that we deliver to those agencies we support. If you have any of these items and wish to donate, please drop them off in the Elm Arts and Crafts Room in the drawer/cabinet closest to the golf shop labeled Nifty Needles. We thank all of you for your support during the Fall sale event in 2023 as this is our only fundraiser. Because of your generosity, our group was able to donate 151 quilts and 53 toiletry bags. Our group enjoys various needle crafts like sewing, quilting, needlepoint, crochet, and knitting just to mention a few. We meet on Thursdays in the Elm Arts and Crafts Room and have long and short workdays. Long days are the 1st and 3rd Thursdays 9:00 am until 2:00 pm with lunch at the Corral Grill. Also, a new element for our members will be the opportunity to attend some small group meetings to talk about their DNA and get help on either how to start with DNA or how to know what to do when the right matches are found. We will also help those who need assistance with their “brick wall” ancestors as well as getting started with creating their family trees. Our March meeting will be a video previously presented at “Roots Tech titled Are You Your Own Brick Wall?” This presentation reminds us not to become so focused on our own family or family traditions that we overlook important clues or resources. This class will identify some common genealogical mistakes and teach strategies for overcoming them. There are things to learn for all of us in this video – beginners and experienced researchers alike.
Boomer SOUPer Bowl - a Sensory Experience A year ago, the Heritage Ranch Boomer Group held a Chili Cook-Off the week before the Super Bowl, barely beating a winter storm that shut down the Clubhouse for a few days. This year, we had great weather, and we added a twist with a delicious variety of dishes for the same event and a new name — the SOUPer Bowl Cook-Off on January 29th. There were over 125 Boomers in attendance in addition to the 18 different entries spaced out around the Ballroom. Once you were signed in, you picked up a bowl, a spoon, and a scorecard to vote for your three favorite dishes in this tasty contest. We sampled various gumbos, stews, chili’s, queso and soups, even a burgoo and a bourguignon as well. When the 123 votes were tabulated… 1st place went to Steve & Barb Bauer for their seafood gumbo 2nd place went to Frank Taylor for his Papa’s Chili. 3rd place went to the “Chili Chicks” Ann Cox and Bonnie Duhon. Thank you to all the contestants for sharing their wonderful dishes and all the Boomers for participating in this culinary experience. Kathy and Lee Laux did an excellent job coordinating and hosting the event. And, a big shout out to Kathy for making clever table decorations using Campbell’s soup cans and for the wooden spoon trophies. Finally, thank you to Dan Bonal for filling out not one but two Super Bowl boards and selling “good neighbor” squares for the actual Super Bowl game. We had lots of Boomers rooting for their neighbors’ squares to win each quarter! It turns out that over a 1/3 of the participants were winners instead of the normal eight in traditional squares (actually 6 this year since the 2nd and 3rd quarters were won by the same number combinations). As Arnold said, “Good neighbaas” indeed! SOUP-ER BOWL 19

Heritage Ranch goes to Austin Street Homeless Center On February 7, 17 Heritage Ranchers loaded up one pickup truck, several SUVs and cars with food, donated blankets, towels, and much needed adult underwear, and headed to Austin Street Center, a homeless shelter in downtown Dallas. This was our 2nd time taking lunch to ASC - our first time was last October. Before that 1st meal we broadcast a request for cash donations to pay for all the food supplies. And Heritage Ranch responded with enough donations to pay for that meal and this 2nd meal! This time we provided lunch for 195 clients and left enough food and cookies for ASC to feed the ones coming in from work later! Everyone who went agreed that the very best part of the whole day was all the smiles and thank you’s from the clients as they came thru the lunch line. We heard comments like “bless you for coming”, thank you so much”, and beautiful smiles as they came through the lunch line. Every client was so grateful for what Heritage Ranch gave them! All of us who got to go were humbled to serve the Clients at ASC. We thank everyone who donated so generously to make this possible. Heritage Ranchers are the BEST! 29
Storytellers OF HERITAGE RANCH John Bolt “The Thefts of the Mona Lisa: On Stealing the World's Most Famous Painting” by Noah Charney provides the complete story of this work of art. Charney delves into Leonardo’s creation of the Mona Lisa (also called La Gioconda or La Joconde), discusses why it is so famous, and investigates two other events in its history of theft and renown. First, he examines the socalled “affaire des statuettes,” in which Pablo Picasso and Guillaume Apollinaire were arrested under suspicion of involvement in the theft of the Mona Lisa. Second, there has long been a question as to whether the Nazis stole the Mona Lisa during the Second World War—a question that this book seeks to resolve. Please join us Marth 25th as Faye Willis presents the book The Thefts of the Mona Lisa: On Stealing the World's Most Famous Painting by Noah Charney. March 25th, 2024, 1:00 pm Individual guest tickets for monthly Storyteller’s performances are $10.00 each and are well worth the hour of entertainment. 30
