Walk in g Tr ails Wor k gr ou p
Heritage Ranch Residents, please be aware of trail condition potential hazards after rains.

This is a Google Earth view of the Park Loop and Park Trails of Heritage Ranch.
The yellow stickpins correspond with the Emergency Marker signs.

If one walked around Heritage Lake heading toward HR 10, in the event of a rain, they are cautioned to stop and
turn around, going back the way they came. During rains, several areas of the Park and Park Loop trails will get
covered with mud and slippery silt, making passage unadvisable.

If one were walking along
Coyote Trail, heading towards
HR 21, they would want to
proceed with caution across
Mustang Road onto Park
Loop. Several areas of Park
Loop, from HR 18 around,
past HR 15 back to HR 19, are
prone to flooding when it
rains. They become slippery
with mud and silt. It is
prudent to avoid Park Loop
Trail when it rains; waiting for
them to be cleared of
hazards.
All of these trails will be
cleared of the mud and silt
when conditions permit.
Signs are posted on
appropriate markers when
conditions are unadvisable.

The greens received winter desiccation to the surface during the freeze in February. The freeze
affected leaf tissue and stolons, but sufficient life remained in rhizomes and roots to successfully
recover the greens by late May. Putting quality was poor after the grass broke dormancy due to
thin areas. The thinning was across all surfaces, with greater loss in high traffic areas. Additional
fertility and cultural practices were implemented, but little results were seen until warmer nights
promoted growth.
Practice Area Renovation ? This project is scheduled to start July 11 and be completed around the
third week of August. This schedule is subject to change based on the contractor and weather
conditions. During this time the driving range and practice bunker will not be available. A few
hitting nets are planned to be utilized to allow for limited warmups.
Fun Fact ? There is a sport called Speedgolf. Your Total Score is the combined total of 18 holes plus
the time it takes to complete those 18 holes. The current record for Speedgolf is 65 in 42 minutes
and 15 seconds. It is held by Scott Dawley who played at Horton Smith Golf Course (measured
6,122 yards) in Missouri. He carried five clubs ? driver, hybrid, 8-iron, wedge and putter. And you
thought you were a fast golfer!!

The Lovejoy School Board election was held on Saturday, May 7, 2022. The election was won by Julie McLaughlin.
We send our blessings for a successful School Board term that accentuates the financial wellbeing of the district, the
continued fostering of quality teaching at Lovejoy Schools and the success of Lovejoy students in all facets of their
lives. Also, on Saturday, May 7, 2022, the members of the Democratic Club gathered for some fun and some food at
our Potluck Supper hosted by Chris and Don Maxwell. We enjoyed lots of lively conversation while enjoying the
pulled pork sandwiches made by member, Bill Loyd, and the side dishes contributed by those attending. COVID
surely interrupted our "in person" gatherings, but our Potluck Supper reminded us that we sure know how to
engage with each other and that we have missed that.

May 16, 2022 ? Friday, May 20, 2022. Please be sure to vote! This is the most basic right and duty in our
representative democracy. Make your voice heard. Then, Democrats must work to ensure that our Democratic
candidates win and when in office, carry out our policy wishes while we trust these representatives to vote on the
best ideas in every area of their governmental work. Remember, these elected officials are servants of the people.
Then let us prepare for November by engaging in whatever help to our Democratic candidates that we can offer. In
fact, we will gather to send postcards, blockwalk and register voters.

GLA M OUR A N D ST YLE

On April 19, 2022, almost 200 elegantly dressed HR ladies crowded HR ballroom for a luncheon and spring fashion
show. The fashion show, which was sponsored by the social group Ladies Lunch Bunch, portrayed styles by the
womenswear retailer J. Jill. Several of our residents served as models for J. Jill Spring/Summer collection. The event
counted on the support of Eric Hoyle and his team, as well as the HR Food and Beverage staff, which provided the
delicious plated luncheon. Market Street in Allen provided a beautiful decorative floral arrangement for the catwalk.
Several other supporters provided door prizes that were a great ending to a wonderful event at our clubhouse.

Congratulations to Fr an k an d
Vivian Hen der son our May 2022
Yard of the Month Winners

"I Must Have Flowers, Always and
Always"

This famous quote from Claude
Monet is epitomized by the
beautiful front yard of Fr an k an d
Vivian Hen der son at 364 Pin e
Valley Dr ive sitting ever so pretty
off the fairway of #11. The golfers
even stop and comment on how
pretty the back patio is on their
way to the green!

The flower bed on the left side of
the front yard is overflowing with
colorful plants, including tall
snapdragons in a rainbow of colors,
day lilies yet to bloom, veronica just
beginning to emerge, coneflowers (echinacea), lavender, Shasta daisies, bee balm (Monarda), trailing phlox, tall Lily
of the Nile (Agapanthus) in white and blue, and alyssum in white and purple along the edge and more.

The foundation plantings comprise of six Sunshine Ligustrum, Alice oakleaf hydrangea, Japanese Maple, nandinas,
azaleas, white alyssum, and seasonal pansies, which will be replaced soon with trailing periwinkles for the summer.
The three tall black planters to the right of the front door will soon be filled with white caladiums to join the ivy,
trailing queen phlox and pink geraniums that are there now. Another bed on this side of the house has monkey
grass (Liriope), pink geraniums, and will have white caladiums soon.

Th is f r on t gar den is a t r u e k aleidoscope of " I m u st h ave f low er s ? alw ays an d alw ays." It is a m u st see!

Special thanks to Sandra Teagarden for writing the May 2022 Yard of the Month article
