Summer sun Welcome
and
Welcome to our sixth publication of The Quarterly TriBay;

rains.
Summer arrived and April was damn hot! ‘Burn your feet on

was calm, quiet, really quiet. Wasn’t it just fabulous? June’s mini-
quiet monsoon and much needed sudden downpours were

perfect. With no people here, what better time to renovate? Why
Nam has built some ‘stub-your-toe-free’ steps leading up to
the cafe and has a great new turf grass dance floor. Spice got
a new roof, Haad Tien are building more bungalows and
apparently Ocean Rock is renovating although I couldn’t tell.
After many (many) months of labyrinth controversy I am
happy to report… that I have nothing new to report. So I
thought I would impart some facts- there are 6 ways to
make the word labyrinth into an adjective: labyrinthian,
labyrinthean, labyrinthal, labyrinthine, labyrinthic and
labyrinthical.

Busy on the yellow brick road
Rumour has it that the owner of Ocean Rock bought No Hope – I wonder if we can still call
it that? Maybe they can turn it around and give this derelict place some new hope? Gossip
spread that everyone from Ocean Rock was moved over to Good Hope so they could renovate
their bungalows in to villas. I went to investigate and can tell you what I saw – ummm, not
much. The bungalows at both places looked as average as always and I didn’t bump in to
anyone at either. Although I did bump in to the owner of The School of Mystery who was
chilling on his new restaurant (I think that’s what it was), a big verandah overlooking his
(apparently) new catamaran. He said
they would be open in January. After
how many years of building and
renovating? I think we’ll just have to
wait and see.
Anyway back to the other two – I can
report that Good Hope has built what
looks like a three-tiered restaurant
right at the end of the walkway with
four brand new stand-alone toilets (yes
that was the highlight). There was a
sign there that looks like the new name
might be ‘Club Engage’ which clearly
took a lot of thought. They want it to be
predominantly a restaurant. Wise
choice on the name. Looks set to be
opening in July.
And in the other corner…
At the other end of the beach there is –
ummm, well we don’t know his name but
we can report that the young Thai guy that
has set up his home on the rock near Stone
Bar, is a lovely, forever-smiling guy. He
has lots of new signs up too including ‘saim
art’, ‘bamboo tattoo’ and ‘information’ – so
please go down, say hello, get a tattoo and
ask a question. You can still buy a juice
(we think) and while you are visiting
Apple, what don’t you take a seat and have
a cup of coffee from her new coffee
machine.

Apocalypse now
The road from Haad Tien to Why Nam looked
a lot like it had been napalmed recently. After
much burning, it felt a little like the result of
a war zone – actually a lot, I was trying to be
nice. It will grow back though (soon we hope)
as it is slightly distressing to walk through.
The burning is getting ready for more of these?
This photo is what is being built right now on
Haad Tien just before the hill up to Why Nam.
The race for the platform
Sanctuary were the first this year to get their platform out. April 1st was their launch date
with Haad Yuan following two weeks behind. Not to worry, they are both out now for everyone
to enjoy. Happy sunbathing.
In other news…
In just one week in May:
1. An Italian photojournalist travelling alone washed up at Eden around sunrise.
2. A young man was taken away in a straight jacket by police due to his mental health.
3. Ocean Rock put out a press release about their new super club to be opening soon….

Hoop Jam revival
The Hoop Jam got its first ever major facelift. All the hoops were brought down to Why Nam
where the whole community got involved in fixing, pruning and primping ‘til they all were
spick and span.
New speakers were bought (again) and we have seen a range of DJ’s
getting their groove on including DJ Jonny, DJ Bob and for her debut
hoop jam set, the lovely Miss DJ Faith.
Not only are our DJ’s kicking it but we also now have Francie, Nola AND
Adam all on the bay. Hooping has never looked so cool.

The Haad Yuan Crossword Club House
The Quarterly The Haad Yuan Crossword Club has been going since 2013
and now have their own club house plus new air-con massage
TriBay tucked in behind. On behalf of the crossword club, we would
like to thank Big Blue for building us The Haad Yuan
Crossword Club House. Opening mid-July, all are welcome
to come visit and have a drink at the bar. Crosswords are
conducted just before sun set, 7 days a week.
