STORY Jamie is an eight year old girl who lives at home with her mother

Jamie is an eight year old girl who lives at home with her mother, father and sister.

Jamie is very sick. She has HIV. Her mother, Marcia, is also sick, she too has HIV.
Marcia told Jamie that she gave her HIV while she was pregnant with her.

Jamie does not like having HIV because her classmates always make fun of her.
1. They do not like to sit beside her in class,
2. they do not like to share their snacks with her, and they do not even like looking
at her

Because they do not want to catch HIV. Jamie does not like school because she feels
nobody likes her and she has no friends. Would you be Jamie’s friend?

One day, Jamie’s Guidance Counsellor, Ms. Brown, went to her class. She wanted to

talk to the students about HIV. Ms. Brown knows that Jamie is having a hard time at
school.
Ms. Brown enters the class and tells the students good morning. Then, she starts to tell
them about HIV.

Tommy, one of Jamie’s classmates shouted from the back “teacher, teacher, Jamie

has HIV and we do not want to play with her’.
The Guidance Counsellor said, “Well Tommy, we cannot get HIV by:

1. playing with Jamie,
2. by hugging her,
3. or even by sharing snacks with her”.

When the students heard that, they all wanted to play with Jamie. Jamie is now

very happy, as she has a lot of friends at school to play with.
