WHAT IS QS 9000?

Qs 9000 was introduced in 1994

QS 9000 was an international quality management system
(QMS) standard for the automotive industry originally
developed by the ‘Big Three’

American auto industry, namely, Daimler Chrysler
Corporation, Ford Motor Company, General Motors

Corporation

Major truck manufacturers, and is now managed by AIAG:
Automotive Industry Action Group.

WHAT IS QS 9000 CONCEPTS?

an accredited third party

• higher standards,
• better-quality products,
• improved efficiency,
• more consistent delivery,
• better communications.

Although initially released in late
1994 and updated in February 1995

only to the suppliers of the
automotive industry.

WHAT IS ISO 14000?

ISO 14000 is a set of standards created to help
companies around the world reduce their adverse
impact on the environment.

It’s a framework for improved and more
environmentally-conscious quality management
systems by organizations large and small.

WHAT IS ISO 14000
CONCEPTS?

❑ ISO 14001 is the international standard that
specifies requirements for an effective
environmental management system (EMS)

❑ It provides a framework that an organization can
follow, rather than establishing environmental
performance requirements.

ISO 14000 STANDARDS

 The core of the ISO 14000 standardsis contained in ISO
14001

Here are the key standards included in ISO
14000:

➢ ISO 14001: Specification of Environmental
Management Systems

➢ ISO 14004: Guideline Standard
➢ ISO 14010 – ISO 14015: Environmental Auditing

and Related Activities
➢ ISO 14020 – ISO 14024: Environmental Labeling
➢ ISO 14031 and ISO 14032: Environmental

Performance Evaluation
➢ ISO 14040 – ISO 14043: Life Cycle Assessment
➢ ISO 14050: Terms and Definitions

BENEFITS OF ISO 14000

The ISO 14001 standard
provides specific requirements
for an EMS and shares some
common management system
principles with the ISO 9000
series of standards, including
the "plan-do-check-act model"
mentioned above and the
requirement for top
management commitment.
The basic focus of the ISO
14000 series of standards is
environmental protection,
while the ISO 9000 series of
standards focuses on quality
and customer needs.

ISO 9000 is not a prerequisite for ISO 14001, although
companies that have both have successfully integrated
the two management systems.

An effective EMS provides many benefits to the
implementing organization,its customers and
stakeholders, and to regulators.
