WELCOME MESSAGE BY HOD DEAR FRIENDS AND COLLEAGUES, IT IS A GREAT HONOR AND MY PLEASURE TO WELCOME ALL OF YOU TO THE “NATIONAL ORBITAL SYMPOSIUM 2024” FROM 6TH TO 7TH MARCH 2024. AS YOU MAY ALREADY KNOW, THIS SYMPOSIUM AND WORKSHOP ARE ORGANIZED TO KEEP OUR LOCAL OPHTHALMOLOGY PRACTICE UP TO INTERNATIONAL STANDARDS, BY PROMOTING CONTINUOUS MEDICAL EDUCATION AND CONTINUOUS PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT. ADDITIONALLY, THE PROGRAMME IS STRUCTURED TO ENABLE PARTICIPANTS TO MEET, NETWORK AND EXCHANGE EXPERTISE. THE THEME FOR THIS MEETING IS “OCULOPLASTIC MASTERY WITH A SLOGAN OF UNRAVELING THE MYSTERIES OF THE ORBIT”, AND THE TWO-DAY PROGRAMME WILL FOCUS ON CASE-BASED APPROACHES FOR ALL SPECTRUM OF ORBITAL DISEASES. She underwent a 1-year Fellowship in Orbit and Oculofacial Surgery in NUH Singapore and subsequently being awarded Malaysian Certificate of Completion in Fellowship Training in Oculoplastics. Currently, a Consultant in Oculoplastic in Kuala Lumpur Hospital and is actively involved in training the undergraduate and postgraduate students. Her major interests are functional and reconstructive ophthalmic surgery, Paediatric Oculoplastics and Thyroid Eye Disease. Dr. Wan Mariny is a distinguished ophthalmologist specializing in oculoplastics. After obtaining her MD from the National University of Malaysia in 1999, she pursued a Masters in Ophthalmology at Universiti Malaya and completed in 2009. Furthering her expertise, she completed a fellowship in Oculoplastic Surgery in 2015z Dr. Mariny has gained extensive experience across various Malaysian hospitals, notably in oculoplastics and general ophthalmology. Her commitment extends beyond clinical duties, evident in her involvement in numerous research projects, publications, and presentations at both local and international platforms. Dr. Mariny's dedication to education is apparent in her role as a facilitator and speaker in various medical workshops and as a visiting lecturer. She is also a regular contributor in teaching sessions for colleagues, medical students, other medical staff, and is involved in oculoplastic fellowship training in HSIS. Recognized for her service excellence, she has received multiple awards and is an active member of several professional medical associations. Dr. Mariny's comprehensive career reflects her unwavering dedication to advancing ophthalmology and delivering exceptional patient care. Dr Norlaila graduated from Universiti Malaya in 1992 and subsequently obtained her Masters in Ophthalmology from Universiti Malaya in 2002. She received her Certification of Completion of Fellowship Training in Oculoplastic Surgery in 2008 trained under Dr Wan Zalina Mohamad Zain in Hospital Selayang and Dr Hatem Ayman Tawfik in Ains Sham Universiti Cairo. Since 2009, she has served as Consultant Oculoplastic Surgeon in Hospital Sultan Idris Shah, Serdang until present. She was the visiting oculoplastic surgeon to HQE Sabah from 2013-2015 and Hospital Umum Sarawak from 2017 -2023. She was one of the expert panel in National Healthcare Establishment And Workforce Survey in 2011 and also served as the Chairperson for the planning of National Eye Institute of Malaysia Project Committee in 2013. For the past 15 years, she was actively involved in training and teaching of paramedics, master and fellowship trainees in ophthalmology. Due to her vast experience, she is a highly sought after speaker in various local and international conferences with several publications and also served as examiner for Masters Clinical Exam and Oculoplastic Sub-speciality Exit Exam. She has performed many successful surgeries pertaining to oculoplastics, orbital reconstructive surgery, lacrimal and thyroid eye disease

She obtained both of her medical and master degrees from University Malaya. She completed her subspecialty training in oculoplastic in 2015. She has more than 20 publications, research and presentations which includes WOS journals. She is passionate about teaching resident trainees in Ophthalmology. She has been a distinguished speaker in various platforms and actively involved in local and international conferences. She is also actively involved in public engagements and has been giving back to the community in the field of Ophthalmology. She has been a visiting Ophthalmologist in multiple district hospital. Dr Hanida Hanafi is a Consultant Ophthalmologist and Oculoplastic Surgeon with National Specialist Registry and Ministry of Health Sub-specialty board certification. She qualified in Medicine in 2000 and Master of Surgery in Ophthalmology from National University of Malaysia in 2010. In 2012, she pursued further sub-specialty training in Oculoplastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Serdang Hospital, Malaysia and The Rotterdam Eye Hospital, The Netherlands. She is currently Head the Oculoplastic Services in Hospital Queen Elizabeth, Sabah since 2016. She is also a visiting surgeon for Women and Children Hospital, Likas, Sabah and Miri Hospital, Sarawak. Dr. Adlina Abdul Rahim graduated with an MD from School of Medical Sciences (USM) in 2003, obtained Masters in Ophthalmology in 2013 from USM and later specialized in Oculoplastic Surgery in 2019. She trained extensively in this subspecialty, honing her skills and knowledge. Dr. Adlina has been actively involved in academic pursuits, contributing to various research projects and publishing in reputable medical journals. She has also dedicated herself to education, serving as a part-time lecturer and supervising medical students. Her clinical experience encompasses service in multiple esteemed hospitals, demonstrating her commitment to the field. In addition to her professional roles, Dr. Adlina actively participates in community service. She has been a prominent figure in numerous symposiums and medical conferences, both nationally and internationally. Her expertise and experience make her a soughtafter speaker in the medical community. Her contributions to ophthalmology, particularly in Oculoplastic Surgery, mark her as a distinguished figure in her field.

She obtained both of her medical and master degrees from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. She completed her subspecialty training in oculoplastic in 2020 and felt privileged to be under the tutelage of esteemed oculoplastic surgeons in Malaysia and Japan. She is very passionate about teaching to medical students, resident trainees in Ophthalmology as well as future fellows in Oculoplastic and hope to invent tools to facilitate teaching in oculoplastic. She has more than 45 publication and on-going researches. She is also training post graduate students and supervising them in the field of research. Her contribution does not limit in the field of academic but multiple public engagement such as ‘Ahli Jawatankuasa Cataract Charity Program for Refugees with UNHCR Status that referred from Ngo Clinic’. Dr Haslinda obtained both of her medical and master degrees from Universiti Sains Malaysia. She completed her subspecialty training in oculoplastic in 2021 and felt privileged to be under the tutelage of esteemed oculoplastic surgeons in Malaysia. She is currently the serving ophthalmologist and oculoplastic surgeon in Hospital Raja Perempuan Zainab II , Kota Bahru, Malaysia. She enthusiastic teacher and trains resident trainees in Ophthalmology as well as future fellows in Oculoplastic. Dr. S Kala is an accomplished ophthalmologist with extensive experience in both clinical practice and academia. She holds a medical degree from University Malaya (2002) and a Master of Ophthalmology from the same university (2010). Dr. Kala completed international fellowship training in Oculoplastic Surgery from SNEC, Singapore in 2021, alongside a local fellowship in Malaysia. With over 15 years in ophthalmology, Dr. Kala is skilled in a broad range of surgeries, including cataract surgeries, ptosis surgery, ectropion and entropion correction, and complex eyelid procedures. She is also adept in orbital surgeries and various laser treatments for conditions like diabetic retinopathy and glaucoma. Dr. Kala's career includes significant roles at various hospitals across Malaysia, demonstrating her versatility in handling diverse ophthalmological cases in both urban and rural settings. Her commitment to her field is further highlighted by her participation in numerous conferences and workshops, both as a speaker and attendee, contributing to the advancement of ophthalmology knowledge and practice. She has also been actively involved in community service, including general eye screenings and cataract surgeries in different regions of Malaysia. Dr. Kala's academic contributions are notable, with several publications in renowned medical journals, focusing on a range of ophthalmological topics.

She has advanced her expertise through various roles in Malaysia's healthcare system. Her current position as an Oculoplastic Fellow/Ophthalmologist at Hospital Sultan Idris Shah Serdang involves managing complex Oculoplastic, Orbital, and Lacrimal cases, and performing related surgeries. She has also served as an Ophthalmologist in Johor Bahru, demonstrating proficiency in eye surgeries and patient care. Additionally, Dr. Aqilah actively contributes to research and clinical teaching. She is a Hospital Research Reviewer and a certified Visual Classifier at the national level for Paralympic athletes. Her publications cover a range of topics in ophthalmology, underscoring her commitment to advancing medical knowledge. Dr. Salleh's dedication to her field is evident in her long-term goal to establish an Oculoplastic service in her hometown, Johor Bahru. Her excellent work ethic, attention to detail, and commitment to high-quality medical care make her a respected professional in ophthalmology. Dr Amalina graduated from University of London in 2009 with a degree in MBBS and subsequently obtained her Masters in Ophthalmology from University of Malaya in 2018. She did her first year oculoplastic fellowship in HSIS and is currently a second year Oculoplastic Fellowship Trainee in Hospital Queen Elizabeth, Sabah. Prior to her oculoplastic training, she did her gazettment and served as the general ophthalmologist in Hospital Queen Elizabeth from year 2018-2020. She was also the visiting ophthalmologist to Labuan in year 2020. She was invited as speaker in state-level Ophthalmology CPG update and Eyelid Trauma course. Dr Kavitha graduated from AIMST University in 2008 with a degree in MBBS and subsequently obtained her Masters in Ophthalmology from Universiti Malaya in 2017. She did her first year oculoplastic fellowship in Hospital Kuala Lumpur and is currently a third year Oculoplastic Fellowship Trainee in Hospital Sultan Idris Shah, Serdang. Prior to her oculoplastic training, she has served as general ophthalmologist in Hospital Tuanku Ampuan Rahimah, Klang.

DR WAN HAZABBAH BIN WAN HITAM 13 Pakar Oftalmologi, Hospital Tengku Ampuan Afzan Pahang DR RAJA NOR FARAHIYAH BINTI RAJA OTHMAN Speakers DESIG N & TEC H N OLO G Y Pn Dr. Wan Hazabbah Wan Hitam, an esteemed Senior Consultant Ophthalmologist and Neuroophthalmologist, has over 30 years of experience in the medical field. Graduating with a medical degree from School of Medical Sciences(USM) in 1991, he went on to complete his Master of Surgery in Ophthalmology at National University of Malaysia in 1999. Further specializing, Dr. Wan Hazabbah attained a fellowship in Neuro-ophthalmology from the prestigious Eye Institute at Tan Tock Seng Hospital, Singapore, in 2007. A pioneer in his field, Dr. Wan Hazabbah has the distinction of being the first Malaysian ophthalmologist to receive several notable awards and appointments in neuro-ophthalmology. His career is marked by significant leadership roles, including serving as the Deputy Dean at the School of Medical Sciences(USM). Dr. Wan Hazabbah is a prolific researcher with a focus on general ophthalmology, neuro-ophthalmology, and visual electrophysiology, with his research work well-documented in various reputable publications. Throughout his career, Dr. Wan Hazabbah has been actively involved in numerous professional organizations and societies. His extensive experience and groundbreaking work in neuro-ophthalmology have made him a respected figure in the medical community. Dr Raja Nor Farahiyah graduated from Universiti Malaya in 2007 and subsequently obtained her Masters in Ophthalmology from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia in 2018. She is currently a first year Oculoplastic Fellowship Trainee in Hospital Tengku Ampuan Afzan, Kuantan. Prior to her oculoplastic training, she did her gazettment in Hospital Sultan Nur Zahirah Terengganu and served as general ophthalmologist in Hospital Sultan Idris Shah Serdang. She has been actively involved in teaching, book-writing and also publications. In 2023, she was awarded Anugerah Perkhidmatan Cemerlang in 2023 for her dedication in work, academic and administrative-related duties. Dr Sylves graduated from Universiti Malaysia Sabah in 2010 with a degree in Doctor of Medicine (M.D) and subsequently obtained his Masters in Ophthalmology from University Sains Malaysia in 2020. He is currently a first year Oculoplastic Fellowship Trainee in Hospital Queen Elizabeth, Sabah and also served as a senior medical lecturer in Universiti Malaysia Sabah. Prior to his oculoplastic training, he had served as district medical officer in Hospital Kota Marudu and did his gazettment in Hospital Queen Elizabeth in year 2020. He is actively involved in peer-review for various local and international journals with several publications to date.
