LVISG Times Edition 13

LVISG Times Edition 13

"October’s poplars are flaming torches
lighting the sky to winter."
-Nova S. Blair

From the desk of the
Director-Principal - Ms. Anita Malhotra

Albert Camus once described Autumn as "the
second spring, where every leaf is a flower."
Autumn marks the transition from summer to
winter. While this season has an earthy beauty to
it, it offers some valuable life lessons for our
children.
Autumn shows us that nature is ever-changing. The leaves of last year
must fall to make way for new ones. Though we may not like it, change is
an inescapable part of our lives and the lives of our children. As parents,
we try to comfort and protect our children as much as possible. But
eventually, they will have to learn how to deal with changes themselves.
We see green leaves on trees so often that we take them for granted. It's
only when they are gone that we begin to miss them. Similarly, our
children can be made to realize that there are so many beautiful things
in their life that they take for granted—a good school, food on the table,
loving parents, and a roof above their heads. It is important to learn how
to appreciate these things and be grateful for them.
Come autumn, trees shed their leaves and lose their beauty. But, even
though the trees look bare, they are in fact preparing themselves for
spring and new leaves. Like the trees, our children also need to learn to
let go of the past and embrace the future.
It is gratifying that the LVISG Team members have thoughtfully chosen
this theme as a reminder to all their readers of the impermanence of life;
let us encourage children to live life to the fullest when they are still in
the spring of their youth.

FACTS ABO
UT AUTUMN

1. The Autumn season occurs in the northern
hemisphere after summers and before winters
from September to November. While in the southern
hemisphere, it occurs from the month of March to May.

2. Every September, when the northern hemisphere
enters the autumn season, each day has one less minute
of daylight. It may not seem a lot, but over the course of
one month, it counts to be a half-hour of lost daytime.

3. Tropical regions that are close to the equator do not
see the autumn season due to the reason that it
receives daylight consistently all year long.

4. Autumn infants, those born between September
and November, have a higher chance of living to be

100 than those born at other seasons of the year.

"Autumn burned brightly, a running flame through the
mountains, a torch flung to the trees."

-Faith Baldwin

I honestly hate the transition from the beautiful and calm season of

autumn, to the chilly and uncannily silent winters. We enjoy autumn

with the perfect weather. Everyone loves the subtly warm breeze that

flows during autumn and the orange skies and earth. Autumn

signifies as a sweet end to the blazing summers, with grace. Apple

pies, broccoli (a vegetable that I love but most hate), and soups

mesmerize our tastebuds during this wonderful season. Autumn is

also the season with the most number of festivals like Diwali and

Halloween. After 3 months of all this greatness and fun, comes

winter. Cold. Fierce. Relentless. Bitter. It makes us shiver, hide in

blankets, makes us quit all the great food like soft drinks, ice-creams

and fresh pizzas (how do you bake something properly in a wood

oven with weather around 0 degrees?). Sounds like pure evil. We

have to crawl in our blankets, forcing us to abandon the amazing

parks, which are now barren. Freezes us to the core and the silent

streets and roads honestly send a chill down my spine, both

physically and metaphorically. This season only spares us the food

that can survive this cold weather, with a lot of suffering in the frost.

The only reason we have been tolerating winter is I think because of

Christmas. Christmas becomes the only motive to to even live during

winters, honestly. Otherwise, who likes wearing millions of sweaters

and jackets, eating cold and bland food? Winter is criminally

overrated in my opinion, with multiple reasons to hate winter and

only a handful to like it. While on the other hand autumn has almost

no flies in the ointment. And this transition from autumn to winter, is

DIVIT KAUSHIK the change I dread the most.

Slowly the beautiful fall takes the winter route
Its time for us to take out our long boot

Wearing Knitted sweaters and woolen tights
