"Vision is the art of seeing
what is invisible to others"
From the Desk of our Director-Principal
Ms Anita Malhorta
Motivation, in simple terms, is the force or drive
that makes an individual achieve more than what
he/she sets out to do. People who are self-driven
always want to give their best and take the
responsibility to achieve their goal despite
challenges. It's endearing to see the variety of
articles in the magazine in each edition, reflecting
great enthusiasm in the participants. So my dear
learners, continue the journey of hard-work, learn
from each experience and enjoy each moment as
you tread towards the next milestone!
Best wishes and blessings as you take this journey
forward!

HOW DID BLACK HOLES GROW SO FAST
IN THE EARLY UNIVERSE?
Black holes are one of the most frightening and mysterious Aadit Singh - IV Mahogany
objects in the universe. We can’t see them but we can hear
them through Gravitational Waves. Some are as small as 1 solar
mass while some as big as 40 billion solar masses or larger than the whole solar
system. Black holes are formed when Hypergiant
stars that are 20 – 30 times the mass of the Sun collapse and explode
violently in a Type 2 Supernova. The core collapses into an
infinitely dense point, giving birth to Stellar Mass Black Hole.
Scientists used to believe that supermassive and ultra-massive
black holes used to form the same way but would feast on a
lot more gas, way faster. But when the scientists conducted simulations
in order to prove this theory right, they found
that black holes cannot munch on everything around them.
Once a black hole has eaten enough, a cosmic burp or jet is
shot out due to friction from the material rubbing on the black
hole. They found out that after this burp, they form an accretion
disk but still don’t eat enough. So, it was concluded that they grow from
collisions with other black holes. However, they can’t become
supermassive in a few million years after the birth of the
universe itself!
Now, scientists are beginning to think that these huge black
holes form from supergiant clouds of hydrogen gas itself. In
this process they form stars but they are utterly massive, i.e. around 4 million – 10
billion times the mass of
the Sun. They are so massive that they collapse straight to form a
supermassive black hole.
At least, that’s the theory.
Who knows?! In the coming decades, maybe we’ll be able to say
if it’s right or wrong!
As for now, we still have a lot of work to do!

NORMAL
Stop pretending to be normal,
You don’t have to be so formal!
We’re so different and yet the same,
Showing your creativity is no shame!
Stop hiding yourself,
you have got to show yourself!
Bring your ‘real’ self everywhere,
Even if you’re different every day!
Show your creativity in what you really are,
Your craziest idea is the happiest of all!
Nobody needs to be perfect at all,
Showing your talents,
can create a good bond!
Stop pretending to be normal,
You don’t have to be so formal!

2 packets of crushed digestive biscuits ©Lotus Valley International School, Gurugram
4 tbsps. of melted butter
1 cup hung curd (hang curd in a muslin cloth overnight and drain off all the water)
1 cup sweetened condensed milk
1 tbsp. of vanilla essence
200 ml of dairy cream
6 tbsps. of warm milk
2 tbsps. of cornstarch

Method:
Add 4 tbsps. of melted butter to crushed digestive biscuits and mix well. Add this
mixture to a microwave safe dish or a cake tin and press it firmly to form a layer.

cup of sweetened condensed milk and whisk the batter to remove the lumps. Add
1 tbsp. each of vanilla essence and dairy cream to it, and whisk until smooth.
Now prepare a separate mixture of 6 tbsps. warm milk and 2 tbsps. cornstarch.
Mix well! Add this to the cheesecake mixture and put the final mixture into the
prepared tin.
Now microwave this at 800 watts for 10 minutes and your cheesecake will be
ready to eat. You can decorate it with strawberries or blueberries. Enjoy!!

MY LOCKDOWN EXPERIENCE
Hi there, I am Rithika, a student trying to express my views on the current situation that we are facing. I salute the doctors
who are working tirelessly. After all the care and skills, they have put to keep us safe, I believe it’s our responsibility to at least
give them the due respect.
My experience in these 4749 days of my life has never been as perfect as a straight line. I wouldn’t expect others' to be too.
What is life without sudden sharp turns and bumpy roads? Every person on this Earth must have had some odds in the journey. I
guess, these 18 months are too much for us to digest. Everyone has been talking about these times, but today I would bring in
these odds that I faced during this pandemic. My views might be very similar to that of others but what’s the harm in knowing
each other, a little bit more. After all, now is the time when we all should come to an understanding and should support each
other.
I have made a pretty good number of friends and there are some about whom I had no clue that they were studying in my
school. Among them, a few had slipped away with Covid while the others are still juggling with it. Well let me ask this
question, what would be the worst-case scenario if you couldn’t get out of the house? You’re already getting your groceries
through deliveries and you’re working from home. Why is it important to go out when we are being provided with our
necessities? Even I was like these people, the ones who are finding it difficult to stay indoors. but soon I realised my mistake
and made a great decision by listening to my parents and not stepping my foot out of the house. Every day I read these messages
and news where people seem to be struggling to find beds, oxygen cylinders, ventilators, specific medicines and a lot more. I
see a dozen of forwarded videos made by doctors all around the world, pleading us to stay at home because that is the least we
can do. I feel it might be difficult for many people to remain inside but can’t we do this much for everyone's safety? A lot of my
near and dear ones have unfortunately been affected by Covid-19 and this has somewhere built a thought in my mind that even I
might get it, someday. So, why face it now then, when eventually I can get and try to avoid or postpone it with a hope of having
a healthy and happy life. I am trying to help others in need, keeping in mind not to cause any trouble to the society. I
contributed to the society by donating to the government and to the needy people. So why can’t we all just show some help to
the frontline workers by taking care of ourselves and helping others? By just following the simple step of staying at home, we
could bring peace to these doctors and frontline workers, thus, avoiding the lingering threat of the third wave.
