High School Volleyball 1989 and 2016

The American Community School of Abu Dhabi provides a balanced learning program to foster excellence
in academics, the arts, and athletics.
In partnership with parents, we empower all students to de ne and shape their futures.
Our dynamic and challenging educational program prepares a culturally diverse student body
for learning, service, and global citizenship.

Dear ACS Family,
On behalf of the Board of Trustees, we are delighted to share with you the American Community School of Abu Dhabi Annual Report for 2016-2017. From a quantitative perspective, this report serves as an opportunity for us to share our most recent accomplishments, a summary of the nancial status of the school, and the highlights of recent fundraising activity.
Whether you are a part of ACS for just a couple of years or for a decade, you willl nd that your experiences here have a deep impact. We are committed to preparing students to lead, solve problems and engage with the complex world we live in. Within these pages we demonstrate the achievements of our students and alumni, the dedicated efforts of our faculty and staff, and the impact of volunteers and donors.
Beyond the statistics you will nd evidence of our core values—compassion, courage, integrity, curiosity—which are harder to quantify, but unmistakeable in the eyes of our students.
We are looking forward to a new year together! With gratitude,
Robin Heslip, Ph.D.

CNN #MyFreedomDay
In March 2017, ACS was honored to be chosen as one of eight international schools to partner with CNN for #MyFreedomDay, a global day of awareness and action against human traf cking. CNN #MyFreedomDay was a day lled with student-led music, performance, writing, and social media posts to raise awareness about solutions for modern day slavery.
Our participation in #MyFreedomDay demonstrated ACS students’ depth of understanding and compassion for those in need. Middle East CNN Anchor, Becky Anderson spent the day lming live from the ACS campus and engaging with students.
Live on CNN, March 2017. Asked about her advocacy, Nour Ramzi ‘17 replied “Don’t be afraid- get out there and speak, act, perform,”to share the message.
“We are the future. The more young people know what’s going on in the world, the more they want to change the world when they grow up.”
- Dina Khatib (former student, Class of 2018)

Dear ACS Community,
It is an honor to be a member of one of the rst graduating classes from the American Community School of Abu Dhabi. The skills we learned and the relationships we developed are invaluable. ACS gave us the freedom to explore concepts and ideas that challenged our global perspectives, and to consider solutions to problems our world faces.
Our Father, Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, in his great wisdom said, “the prosperity and success of the people are measured by the standard of their education.” The unique culture of ACS- -high standards of achievement matched with core values of courage, curiosity, compassion, and integrity--supports Our Father’s vision. Several of my ACS classmates’ children now attend the school. Their future is bright.
Saud Al Nowais, UAE Commercial & Trade Attache at the UAE Embassy
This year, our community was deeply saddened by the passing away of ACS alumnus and board member, Haitham Zamzam Al Hammadi. ACS, alumni and the Zamzam family are working together to identify the best way to honor Haitham’s memory and his service to the school. We ask that the community keep Haitham’s family, wife and his three children in your prayers.
Alumni are stepping up to support the school in many ways. Giving back to ACS is a pleasure; it allows us to once again enjoy the embrace of a committed and loving community. I ask that you join our efforts to enhance our legacy and strengthen the future of this wonderful institution.
Regards,
Saud Al Nowais ‘02

“The American Community School of Abu Dhabi is an integral part of the United Arab Emirates, practically as old as the nation itself.
Like the UAE, it has welcomed diversity and aspiration, valued the past and looked always to the future.
Achieving the highest educational standards, ACS has graduated students who have made s”igni cant contributions all over the world and certainly within the UAE.
