GardenNews23September2023-world

■ GN staff are continuing to work from home and unfortunately cannot receive readers’ mail – but if you are able to email your letters and pictures, please do! Breakfast for one Surprise beauties Regal bloomers Success first time I receive Garden News every week. I have always found it to be very informative and helpful with all your gardening tips, etc. I have a reasonably good sized garden at the front and back of my house, and I always try to make it as colourful and pleasing for my family and for passers-by to enjoy in this dull world of today! I always make up my own hanging baskets for myself and my neighbours to enjoy through the summer months. I thought you would like to see my begonia troughs, of which I have five between my garden and my neighbour’s. They have been particularly beautiful this year! Ian Comrie, Altrincham Simon Says: The trough is beautiful, Ian, and what a wonderful way to bring beauty to people’s everyday lives! Beautiful sunshine day in the UK. Sharing these colours from our garden. Rajesh Rathod, Twitter This is my Nana Doreen Newell’s 14ft sunflower growing through the top of her greenhouse! The sunflower has been named Jack, and it has managed to withstand lots of windy nights in Colby, Norfolk. Jack was originally meant to be a cucumber plant! Harriet Newell, Instagram The joy of colour Ian wins a £25 voucher from Mr Fothergill’s for use in its mail-order catalogue. It’s packed with a huge choice of quality seeds and exciting flower, fruit and veg plants. I thought readers might like to see one of my baby robins who came inside looking for breakfast today. Heather Hinton, by email It is a pleasure to pass so many lovely plants such as this while walking along my usual routes. The colours are striking and, as they are growing out of crevices, only the occasional watering keeps them alive. Gloria Wilding, Prescot Our lovely antirrhinums, ‘Royal Bride’, grown from seeds we save every year. We got the original free seeds from your magazine some years ago! Thank you Garden News! Anne Flanagan, by email I’m really pleased with my first attempt at growing dwarf aubergines, as my daughter asked me to have a go. The colour is so lovely and, even before the fruits come, the flowers are beautiful. Sylvia Monk, Hampshire The nasturtiums in my garden are so pretty. They have been flowering so well this year. A joy to see! Suzy Hamilton, Twitter Best of this week’s social media posts STAR PRIZE September 23 2023 / Garden News 51
