about by the poor connection caused them to be disconnected from time to time
during the discussion. Overall, the activity was a success.
3. Other topics discussed apart from the recommended topics, if any:
Other topics discussed aside from the recommended topics was about the
attendance monitoring of students now that they are into remote learning and
tracking of students is near to impossible.
4. Recommendations/Plans for next LAC session:

following the grouping in the previous LAC session.
Module 3A
Reflection
The module helped me to
understand better the different learning
modalities as well how it is
implemented. Looking into it, I realized
that there is a need to equip with
knowledge to facilitate the each
learning delivery with expertise. I felt
lost as I read the lessons knowing that I
only have little knowledge on its
concepts. My apprehensions on the
results/success of assessments for the
students while they are learning
remotely bothers me a lot because
personally I feel a little guilt for not
being able to really teach them that
much while anticipating the
authenticity of their learning outputs.

MODULE 3B
Learning Resources
MODULE OBJECTIVE:
By the end of this Module, you will be able to:
1. associate learning resources (LRs) with specific learning
modalities
2. access resources from online portals such as DepEd
Commons and LR Portal of the
Department of Education
3. explain the importance of using quality assured LRs
MODULE CONTENT:
Lesson 1. Learning Resource Maps for Distance Learning
Lesson 2. Accessing Learning Resources from DepEd Portals
Lesson 3. Assessing the LR Materials
"Teaching materials" is a generic term used to describe the
resources teachers use to deliver instruction. Teaching materials can
support student learning and increase student success. Ideally, the
teaching materials will be tailored to the content in which they're
being used, to the students in whose class they are being used, and
the teacher. Teaching materials come in many shapes and sizes, but
they all have in common the ability to support student learning.
Learning materials are important because they can significantly
increase student achievement by supporting student learning. For
example, a worksheet may provide a student with important
opportunities to practice a new skill gained in class. This process aids
in the learning process by allowing the student to explore the
knowledge independently as well as providing repetition. Learning
materials, regardless of what kind, all have some function in student
learning.
Learning materials can also add important structure to lesson
planning and the delivery of instruction. Particularly in lower grades,
learning materials act as a guide for both the teacher and student.
They can provide a valuable routine. For instance, if you are a
language arts teacher and you teach new vocabulary words every
Tuesday, knowing that you have a vocabulary game to provide the
students with practice regarding the new words will both take pressure
off of you and provide important practice (and fun) for your students.
In addition to supporting learning more generally, learning materials
can assist teachers in an important professional duty: the
differentiation of instruction. Differentiation of instruction is the
tailoring of lessons and instruction to the different learning styles and
capacities within your classroom. Learning materials such as
worksheets, group activity instructions, games, or homework
assignments all allow you to modify assignments to best activate each
individual student's learning style.
Getting your hands-on valuable teaching materials is not nearly
as difficult as it can seem at first. The Internet has many resources for
teachers, most of them free, that can significantly increase the
contents of your teaching toolbox. You can also make your own
materials. Every learning material you develop will be an asset to you
when you next teach a similar unit. An investment of time or money
in good teaching materials is an investment in good teaching.

Module 3B
Study Notebook
LESSON 1: LEARNING RESOURCE MAPS FOR DISTANCE
LEARNING
Activity 1:
1. Based on the map, what resources should you have in order to implement the
LDM adopted by your School/Division?
Modular distance learning is the adopted modality in our school.
Hence, printed self-learning materials and activity sheets are the resources
that we are going to utilize.
2. Do you have the complete resources for the Distance LDM needed in class? If the
LRs are not complete or not available, what steps will you take to make these
available? What are your options to substitute these missing LRs?
No. Not all needed printed modules are available, though we have soft
copies of the modules. Learning resources are not available also in DepEd
Commons and LRMDS. In light of this development, teachers are preparing
activity sheets as supplementary learning resources.
3. What support will you need to maximize the use of the two DepEd-sanctioned
LR Portals? From whom can you get this support?
A good and stable internet connection is a primary need in accessing
these online portals. LR in-charge should update the availability of learning
resources since it is one of the means to access learning resources.
4. Based on your evaluation of the materials, are they appropriate to the level and
characteristics of learners? Are there learners who might be disadvantaged by
the materials (based on reading ability, level of learning independence, level of
household support, distance)? What adjustments will you make in terms of the
LRs?
The resources are appropriate to the different levels of our learners, but
it was observed that other competencies were mixed up and not aligned to
the topic. As a teacher, I have to do some adjustments on the scheduled topic
to align with the standards given.
In your LAC Session, share and discuss your answers from the
previous activity. What support can you provide to your colleagues
and what support can you get from them in terms of LRs? Take note
of the insights that you can gather from your colleagues and write
them in your Study Notebook.
Insights
Learning resources are very vital to
students and teachers in the process of teaching
and learning. It is frustrating though, that not
all are available and provided due to some
reasons.
In this light, a teacher is burdened to be
resourceful, to find ways and means to provide
necessary supplementary materials so as not to
deter learning despite of the problems. The
difficulty of sustaining the availability of
resources is quite a big challenge to handle.
I realized that the role of a teacher is
too big especially now in the new normal set of
education. The paradigm shift that we are
experiencing brought too much complexities in
the teaching and learning process. But I am still
hopeful that we can get through it in due time.
1. Given the LDM adopted in your School, how can the two DepEd portals respond to
your LR needs and those of your learners’? How do they complement the LRs that you
already have?
The LRMDS and DepEd Common portals provide supplementary materials to
our SLMs that we can download, improve and adjust to meet the needs of all our
learners. It gives variety of learning activities to complement the existing LRs I
have prepared.
2. What are the challenges in accessing the LRs in the portals both for you and your
learners? How will you overcome these challenges?
The biggest challenge in accessing these portals is a poor or very slow internet
connection. Another challenge is the limited content found in the portal. The
alternative way is to find some place where the signal reception is better.
3. What support will you need to be able to maximize the use of the LR Portals? From
whom can you get this support?
It needs updating plus a good and stable internet connection are needed very
badly.
DepEd Learning Portal promises to provide necessary learning materials
for teaching and learning, unfortunately is not true to all subject areas. Thus, as
a teacher it is frustrating because it is one of the resources that I am hopeful to
help me out in this new normal.
Study the LR Rapid Assessment Tool. Download an LR from either DepEd
Commons or LRMDS Portal and assess the material using the tool. Answer the
following questions in your Study Notebook:
1. Was the material able to meet all the requirements?
The download LR material met the learning targets of the lesson. The
LR has the basic standards required to deliver the MELCs.
2. Were there any questions in the assessment tool where you answered “No” or
“Cannot Be Determined”? What decision will you make on the LR material?
Why?
The evaluation method has achieved the quality and reliability of the
activities to manipulate and optimize the use of the LR portal.
3. Are there other aspects of the material not covered by the tool but still need to
be assessed? Specify which aspect/s.
The learning material covered the lesson but require some description
and terminology to achieve the best understanding of the concepts.
4. How does this exercise help you in picking the right and appropriate LRs for
your lesson and your learners?
Understanding the management of this LR Portals, this gives me the
confidence and motivation to look for the most appropriate learning
resources to my learners.
Explore other non-DepEd LR portals/platforms you can find online. Take note of
the portals in your Study Notebook. Download at least one LR from each portal.
Assess the materials using the same tool and answer the following questions in
your Study Notebook:
1. Based on the Assessment Tool, how does the material from a non-DepEd Portal
compare with the LR from the DepEd Portal?
The resources are not all quality assured and only provide minimal
support to attain the learning objectives for the students.
2. Based on the results of the Assessment Tool, what improvements do the
materials — both from DepEd and Non DepEd portals — still need?
A more precise and easier to follow instructions can be developed.
Upload additional resources to meet all the learners’ needs and levels of
understanding.
3. How does this exercise help you in picking the right and appropriate LRs for
your lesson and your learners?
Understanding the management of this LR Portals, this gives me the
confidence and motivation to look for the most appropriate learning
resources to my learners.
Choose one of the LR materials that you have developed. Assess this material
using the same tool. Answer the following questions in Your Study Notebook:
1. How does your material compare with the ones that are obtained from the
online portals?
The material needs more precision and quality assurance.
2. What improvements do you still need to make in your developed
material?
The complexity of contents to meet the learning needs of
my students.

Reflection
While reading the content of this
module made me wonder why some learning
resources do not compliment the standards
set by the department.
Learning is already a complex
process; I just hope it will be tailored
according to the needs of the students
especially now.
There are too much of everything
that make learning boring and along the
way students may lost their focus.
Let us not forget that learning is
supposed to be fun and not the other way
around.

Module Content/LAC Session 5
Lesson 1: Reflecting on Professional Life and Development
Lesson 2: Planning for the Continuing Professional Development
and Participation in the LAC
Professional development refers to many types of educational
experiences related to an individual’s work. Doctors, lawyers,
educators, accountants, engineers, and people in a wide variety of
professions and businesses participate in professional development
to learn and apply new knowledge and skills that will improve their
performance on the job. Many
fields require members to participate in ongoing learning approved by
the profession, sometimes as a requirement for keeping their jobs.
Professionals often also voluntarily seek new learning. In
education, research has shown that teaching quality and school
leadership are the most important factors in raising student
achievement. For teachers and school and district leaders to be as
effective as possible, they continually expand their knowledge and
skills to implement the best educational practices. Educators learn
to help students learn at the highest levels. Many people may not be
aware of their local school system’s methods for improving teaching
and student learning.
Professional development is the only strategy school systems
have to strengthen educators’ performance levels. Professional
development is also the only way educators can learn so that they are
able to better their performance and raise student achievement.
Many misunderstandings exist about professional development, its
purpose, and how it functions. Th is publication is an eff ort to
answer basic questions and to inform and engage more people in
strengthening the quality and improving the results of professional
development.

LESSON 1: THE TEACHING PORTFOLIO AND
ITS CONTENTS
Before you begin to prepare building your Portfolio, you need to make
sure that you have completed all the outputs for this course. Go over
the list found in LDM2 Guide for Expected Outputs and find out
whether you have completed all the outputs required for Modules 1-4 of
this course.
Submit the completed outputs to your designated Coach for final
evaluation. Keep a copy of all your outputs for your own records.
Study the Reading on Portfolios from the Glossary of Education Reform.
Based on your reading, reflect on the following questions and jot down
your answers in your Study Notebook:
1. How will your Portfolio help you in tracking the progress of your
teaching practice in your School’s LDM?
Portfolios are intended to evaluate learning progress and achievement
in a specific course, by completing my portfolio in LAC sessions about
LDMs I am now ready for the challenge of the new normal in education.
This will make me more equip and capable in preparing my lesson and
in choosing the appropriate LRs to supplement the SLMs.
2. What evidence from the previous modules will help capture the
progress of your teaching practice?
As a teacher, what will help me is the Individual Development Plan. I
believed that the IDP is a big help because through which I will be guided
in my practice as a teacher especially now that I am still on the process
of adjustment and learning the new normal way of education.
3. Why is writing down your reflections an integral part of your Portfolio?
Writing down my reflections and insights can help me navigate my
intent to improve in aspects that I needed to. It also serves as my review
points whenever I feel lost in performing my duties. Most importantly,
it serves as a gauge on how well I understand the topics discussed from
this course.
Familiarize yourself with the List of Suggested Evidence Form. Is the list of
evidence enough to capture the progress of your teaching practice? What other
evidence can you think of that is relevant to the LDM adopted by your School?
Write down your answers and other insights in your Study Notebook.
Based on my experienced, I believe that there are still a lot of things to do
to successfully implement the Learning Modalities in our school. Because of
the following observations:
1. Low turn out of attendance starting on the third week of module
distributions and submission of students’ outputs;
2. Modules are not available for distributions;
3. Students became complacent in submitting their expected outputs;
4. Supplies are not available for the production of teacher made Learning
Activity Sheets.
5. There is no specific portal to retrieve Learning Resources, like soft
copies of modules, etc.
In line with this, I think the school should:
Conduct a weekly evaluation on the process of its implementation of
the LDM;
Utilize the use of a “Tracking Form of Students” who are religiously
getting their modules during the distribution aside from the existing
IMP .
Utilized the use of a “Feedback Form”. A feedback form to be
accomplished by the parent/s or guardians regarding their issues,
concerns and helpful suggestions for the LDM implementation.
Study the criteria and indicators found in the Evaluation Rubric. What steps
will you take to ensure that you are able to hit the criteria in the Rubric? Write
down your answers and any other thoughts about the Rubric in your Study
Notebook.
In order to be successful in making the portfolio I must consider first
the Demonstration progress of the LDM implementation which is 30%
in the rubrics. The outputs that I will produce should be aligned with
the professional standards of DepEd.
Discuss and share your thoughts on the Rubric in your LAC Session. Present
your steps to make your outputs and Portfolio responsive to the evaluation
criteria and indicators. Take note of your colleagues’ other insights as well.
Steps in Accomplishing my portfolio:
1. Read the modules;
2. Answer Activities;
3. Ask for help whenever necessary;
4. Plan-out first the making of outputs and collaborate with others to gain
additional ideas;
5. Organize;
6. Have it pre-evaluated before finalizing the portfolio’s content.
