Title : Webinar Online Supervision in the New Norm: Challenges & Strategies
I would like to thank our beloved lecturer Dr. Siti Nisrin Binti Mohd Anis for her
guidance throughout the program and include the activitiy in course syllabus. I gain a lot of
experienced by handling and functions as leader. Thanks a lot for my team mates (group two)
which give me an opportunity, believe and select me as leader. Thank you for the support and
cooperation given to complete the task together. We all have put an effort during short period
of times even though we all struggling with teaching and learning online as school reopening.
I am teaching critical subjects (Mathematics and Additional Mathematics) which require me to
put more attention to my form 3-5 students. I have to prepared teaching materials and explore
many things for that. Our schedule is really pack, handling small kids (6, 7 and 8 years old) at
home are my real challenges during this time. Sometimes I over look some important
information due to many things to do as wife, mother, teacher, student. The environment at
home is not conducive but I have to get used to it. Despite all the challenges, I am thankful that
I managed to go through it.
I have to do a lot of ad hoc tasks as leader. I believed that, as a leader, I have to play an
important role, more responsible, always communicate, support each other and keep active.
Success and failure is depend on the leader. I managed to prepared the paper work, design the
badge as small token from our group, keep communicate, discuss and updates all the
information with lecturer, speaker and team mates. Furthermore, I have to checked all
committee doing the task by followed the procedures correctly. Other obstacles are most of us
have connection issues, three of our team mates is international students which different time
zone. Honestly, this is really tough for me but I dare to accept the challenges with strong
collaboration and support from lecturer and team mates. Not to say how much we contribute,
the most important thing is we do it together as one team. All of us are doing our job
17
GROUP 2
sucessfully. This activity have wider our connection and know each other very well. Thank you
all!
I have known the speaker as we are teaching from same school (SMK Bandar Baru
Uda) but in short period of time before I transferred to new school and she further her study in
PhD at UTM (HLP). The speaker Dr. Nor Fadzleen have shared her experienced as an educator.
She emphasizes that as a teacher, we responsible to our own growth. In my opinion, the teacher
has the potential to go beyond their capabilities and explore new possibilities or methods with
enthusiasm. Teacher should have a positive attitude towards their own personal development
and responsible for their own decision and action. In order to be a good leader, you must be a
good follower in a first place (Dr. Nor Fadzleen, 17 June 2021). I believe that, good attitudes
will contribute to good attributes. We have to be sincere and non-prejudice in our work as
educators to cultivate good morale values in others even though we are up against challenges
while discharging our duties. We must have the courage to leap forward to expand our
knowledge through new learning environment and innovation.
Some challenges that occur during COVID-19 pandemic are adaptability, connectivity,
motivation and time management. Teacher have to adapt with new norm, comply with
government new rulings and restrictions. Furthermore, teacher and student also encounter
connectivity problem while going through the process. This is unavoidable and unpredictable
that might occur. Teaching and learning in new norm require us to use the correct tool for the
different student’s intellectual level. This is because some student might not be able to adapt
to certain method of teaching. Choose the best practice and approach to ensure better
understanding. During this trying time of COVID-19 pandemic, teachers have to constantly
encourage and boost morale of student, keep reminding them to stay focus and be matured and
adapt with current situation to their best ability. At the same time, we must have work life
balance and try to reduce the unnecessary red tapes (procedures/protocol) so as not to affect
our primary role which is teaching. It has been a wonderful and pleasurable experience
handling the webinar as a leader, I have learnt a lot from lecturer, speaker and colleagues. It is
a team effort that makes the whole webinar successful.

Though it's group project as partial requirement for MPPA 1353 Education Supervision
subject, it was much more to way more scholastic and engaging team work I have participated
for this postgraduate journey of mine. I carried out my functions as the group's secretary,
supported the leader in compiling the appropriate documentation in the required areas, and
produced the working report for this report. I am really happy to see and appreciate all the
members of this community participating. Each has done so well, not only so well, but in times
of difficulty helped one another. This is really praiseworthy. It is what works for the group,
isn't it?
On the issue of online supervision, the speaker made a wonderful presentation. We all
learnt a lot of new things and her experience, together with insights, were astounding. She is
extremely informed and knowledgeable. Here is what I reflected on the presentation by the
speaker. There are 3 key areas with regard of online supervision which is advice, growth and
support. Individually, this topic is very essential for me as I am conducting a research on peer
coaching for my RS1. The speaker explained how clinical supervision is connected with peer
coaching and developmental part of teaching profession plus professional leadership’s role in
it.
The speaker also discussed on the challenges with regard of online supervision such as
adaptability, connectivity, motivation and time management plus ranking it on which one is
more challenging than the other. Besides that, she also shared the daily hours students spent on
PC before pandemic and currently. That was a new information for me. Then, the speaker
correspondingly shared about online supervision in the new norm as of synchronous and
asynchronous learning with advantages and disadvantages of it. Lastly, she too shared about
various online platforms which works well with supervision features such as google classroom,
MS Teams, Improve, Schoology, EDX and so on. The tools for lesson monitoring were
introduced as well such as Padlet, Google Forms, Idonethis and Edpuzzle. Good explanation
were given on Mentimeter and how we could use it.
Not only does this seminar benefit everyone, but the experience we learned from our
position at the seminar is the most essential thing. Every member of the group I truly appreciate
being helpful. Together, we finished a significant online speech. We all share our unique
20

thoughts with each other and are diligent and accountable. Through this position, I realised
profoundly the strength of team and the necessity for my future studies and work of
collaboration.

Experience as Moderator
This was my group assignment and it had been done in this afternoon. I am excited
because I can fully focus on my school work afterward. Recently, I was lack of time by doing
school thing. It’s because I need to focus on my assignments, some more I need to prepare slide
or materials for online teaching. Seriously, I don’t have enough time to sleep. However, I still
able to manage as a seminar moderator in this afternoon. By doing this, I practiced thousands
of time after I done the moderator script. Although there have some little unexpected issues
occurred in the seminar, we also manage to solve the problems. This was my first time
experience as a moderator, and I am proud to myself and my team as we managed to success
on this seminar.
Lastly, I really appreciated to my beloved lecturer, Dr. Siti Nisrin as she gave
us a new challenge how to organize a useful seminar to everyone. This seminar really beneficial
for everybody, not only the term in knowledge, the most important thing is the experience that
we learnt from our position in the seminar.
Reflection of Seminar
During this COVID-10 pandemic, from what Dr. Nor Fadzleen had mentioned in the
seminar, every people need adapt to the new norm of life. For example, teachers have to do
online teaching with students. Sometimes, teacher need to deliver learning materials for
students whom don’t have internet connection in the house. Actually all these was challenges
to the educator, somehow it also adding burden to me as I need to complete a lot of workload.
Learning is a long life
journey. While attending to our
honorable presenter, Dr. Nor
Fadzleen seminar, I was
attracting by her way of
conveying and sharing the
ideas. She is a professional
lecturer with a little kind of
humour. I like her so much
because I never feel bored
through the seminar. I still remember that she mentioned teaching in this new norm is not easy
22
GROUP 2
for everyone. However, if we find the good method to deliver the teaching lesson, then I think
it could be interesting space for student to study. I hope I could be becoming as a lecturer like
Dr. Nor Fadzleen in the future. She was my ideal of character.
In her seminar, she mentioned supervision leader need to build trust among the teachers
and students. Before this, I feel like relationship between each other was not that important.
It’s hard for me to build a close relationship with others. However, from her point of context,
I know that I need to learn how to create a good relationship as I want to be a supervision leader
in the future. For example, if I am a supervision principal, I would like to build trust with my
teachers. I understand a good relationship among the teachers can bring a good impact to the
school. At the time, teachers are willing to do thing with their sincerity and kindness. We can
work together in a team to achieve good result.
Furthermore, I also have a deep reflection or self-
awareness for myself. I know my strength and weakness.
As a good supervision leader, I need to improve my
weakness. In online presentation, I was not confidence
when I shared ideas to lecturer and friends. By solving this
problem, I have to improve myself in term of the new
knowledge and skills. Reading is a good way to gain
knowledge, and I will lead myself to getting better and to
be an acknowledgement person.
As a conclusion, I hope I can develop myself in order to
become a supervision leader. Leader needs to depend on
situation to give appropriate clinical for the teachers and students. Supervision leader need to
apply all good values and stimulate the followers to copy the good ethics.

GROUP 2
4.4 Sharifah Shahiera Binti Syed Zainol Makri
On 17 June 2021, our class group, which is Group 2, organized a webinar entitled
"Online Supervision in The New Norm: Challenges and Strategies" by Dr. Nor Fadzleen Binti
Hj. Sa’adon. She is an Academic Lecturer, Language & Technology department, English
Language Teaching Center (ELTC), Ministry of Education Malaysia. This program is open to
all students of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia as well as the public people. The program was
introduced in line with the current situation that is hit us now.
As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the education world has been drastically
disrupted from usual routines and schedules since early March 2020. COVID-19 has caused all
school and university systems to pivot to various forms of online instruction and attempt to
reach students through screens, including both synchronous and asynchronous modes of
instruction, due to the inability to instruct in person. This causes various forms of challenges
to come in ensuring that the student learning are not left behind. So, the objective of this
program is to increase the knowledge of students in the field of supervision.
In addition, the lecturer is also a knowledgeable and experienced person and this is the
strength of this program.Throughout this program, Dr. Fadzleen emphasized several strategies
for solving the problems. One of the difficulties educators confront is a lack of relevant skills
for conducting online remote teaching and learning. One of the skills that might affect the
efficiency of online teaching and learning is technological knowledge. To submit experimental
movies to social networks like YouTube, for example, they must be downsized and compressed
to a suitable resolution for viewing and downloading on electronic devices such as PCs,
laptops, and other such devices. Educators will struggle to produce materials for online
teaching and learning without these expertise and skills.
Educators in tertiary institutions are also struggling to transition to a teaching paradigm
that requires them to be familiar with the online education system. The efficacy of online
teaching and learning is determined by the abilities of both instructors and students. It will be
difficult for educators and students to meet the objectives in online teaching and learning
sessionswithout these skills, knowledge, and experience. In conclusion, educators with
adequate skills would save time and be able to construct more engaging online teaching and
learning activities.
24
GROUP 2
However, there is a weakness that I found in this program which is a technical problem
while the program is running. Since the program is held online so the internet problem is the
cause of some montages cannot be shown according to the set time so causing program delays.

I. Reflection of preparation work:
During the preparation of this online talk, our whole class were divided into two groups.
The first group first completed their online presentation and gave us a good example. There are
many places for us to learn from the first group. In our group, Fadilah, the leader, was very
active and responsible. She identified our speakers and collected her detailed information,
which gave us a clear understanding of the goal of this online speech. After that, the leader
assigned specific tasks to the members in charge according to the areas in which everyone in
the group is good at and after fully soliciting the opinions of all the members (Leader: Nor
Fadilah; Secretary : Muneeswary; Poster : Tiera; Montage : Sharifah, Wang Jing; Moderator :
Tan; Speaker: Nor Fadilah; Technical : Prema, Munees & Yu Xiaochen; Attendance &
Certificate : Kalaivani, Mugambikai; Documentation : Sharifah; Promotion & Doa : Auwal).
Every member of the group is very active and we help each other all the time while completing
our own tasks . The successful completion of each task will result in the joint efforts of all of
us.
My task was to make the opening video, which was the first time for me to make such a
video. In the process, I met some difficulties, but at the same time, I also got help from my
classmates, especially Sharifah, who had some experience in making videos, and she offered
to help me make the ending video. The difficulty of my task was reduced so much that I only
needed to make an opening video under her help. At the beginning, I first found a software that
could be used for video production, and got familiar with the use and operation methods of the
software in the fastest time. Then, I found some video materials and selected one suitable for
this speech after careful screening. And I chose the background music that matched it. After
that, I added the speaker’s information to the video bit by bit. After the video was initially
formed, I modified every second of the video in detail. Unfortunately, due to my inexperience
in making this kind of video, the video has some shortcomings. However, the task of making
this video gave me a lot of help, and I also learned a lot of useful knowledge and skills in this
process.
I really appreciate to every member of the group for helping each other. We completed a
meaningful online speech together. Everyone is conscientious and responsible, we share our
unique ideas with each other. Through this assignment, I deeply realized the power of team and
the importance of cooperation, which has far-reaching significance for my future study and

II. Reflection of the presentation content:
The topic of our group’s speech is about “Online Supervision in the New Norm-
Challenges and Opportunities”. At the beginning of speaker’s speech, we considered and
discussed what is “online supervision” and made a detailed interpretation of this concept,
respectively explaining the meaning of the topic from three aspects: advice, support and
growth. This gives us a glimpse of the theme of this presentation. Then, the speaker briefly
introduced the three basic models of educational supervision and connected professional
leadership with educational supervision. As for the challenges of online supervision under the
new situation, the speaker focused on four aspects (adaptability, connectivity, motivation and
time management). Because of Covid-19, the amount of time students spend on online learning
has increased dramatically and new problems have been created, making online supervision all
the more important. In online supervision, we need to use a variety of supervision reports,
especially attendance, leader progress, exam/test result and certification. We also have a certain
understanding of the characteristics of these supervision reports. In addition to monitoring
reports, there are many online supervision platforms and tools that we can use to better conduct
online supervision. At the end of the speech, the audience raised some related questions, and
the speaker answered them and communicated with them.
The content of this speech is very practical, not simply to understand some theoretical
knowledge, but through this speech we can learn a lot of methods and skills that can be used in
our educational practice. Therefore, this online speech helped me a lot and was closely related
to our course, which gave me a deeper understanding of educational supervision.

As part of their project, Educational Supervision students were required to organise a
talk relating to the new norm. Dr. Nor Fadzleen, an academic lecturer at KKM's English
Language Teaching Centre, was invited to deliver a talk.
To begin, Dr. Nor Fadzleen's presentation titled 'Online Supervision: Challenges and
Strategies' was really intriguing, and I gained a lot of knowledge from it. The speaker discussed
the concept of online supervision, its various facets, as well as its problems and potential
solutions. I am astounded by the speaker's remark, 'Before you can be a leader, you must first
be a good follower.' I wholeheartedly concur with this remark, since the leader will be more
lenient when considering solutions from the standpoint of the followers. There were several
areas that I thought were specifically suited to my supervisory concerns and unresolved
questions. I've realised that online supervision requires guidance, support, growth, and
continual engagement. Furthermore, supervision is not only about imparting knowledge; it is
entirely about developing rapport. Additionally, the webinar's three takeaways will include
clinical, peer coaching, and development models. The clinical model is a continuous process
in which an experienced supervisor supervises others with less expertise. When everyone
contributes, peer coaching happens. This approach was straightforward for me to grasp after I
gave a presentation on it a few weeks ago. I've also come to understand that educators, in the
development model, are accountable for their own personal improvement. Understanding this
model has aided me in being a more successful supervisor and has enabled me to progress to
the next model.
The speaker expanded my view on what it meant to be a supervisor in terms of
numerous supervisory responsibilities. According to Dr. Nor Fadzleen, supervision
encompasses six facets. First and foremost, a relationship with one's colleagues. It is an
excellent idea to use the chameleon effect when dealing with various people. Moving forward,
supervisors must establish SMART objectives and be introspective in their training or message
delivery. I've learnt that in order to be a successful supervisor, we must engage in systematic
thinking, have the ability to apply theory since theory alone does not work, and take a unique
way to sharing ideas for the improvement of the educational system. All of these factors will
undoubtedly aid me in realising my full potential as an excellent supervisor.

The challenges mentioned by the speaker compelled me to reflect on myself. I am
completely aware that adaptation, time management, connection, and motivation are the most
pervasive difficulties confronting educators in this present epidemic. I've shifted my position
on restricting screen time since I've discovered that utilising a laptop for extended periods of
time has historically lowered my desire.
Additionally, the methods given by the speakers, namely connection, communication,
rapport, and expectations, were the webinar's most significant takeaways for me. While
everyone communicates, only a select few connect. This statement has made me aware of how
I should make a greater effort to connect with my peers and also with my learners. There is,
however, no such thing as a one-size-fits-all solution. As effective supervisors, we must
develop the ability to adapt to and adapt to a variety of situations.
Dr. Nor Fadzleen finished her presentation by stating, 'If you fail to plan, you plan to
fail,' a lesson that all educators and aspiring educators should hear. I am really grateful for the
opportunity to contribute to the organisation of a talk, and many thanks to Dr. Siti Nisrin for
providing it. Apart from the knowledge obtained during the presentation, I got valuable
experience through the poster design, which I did as an amateur. The experiences I've received
here will undoubtedly benefit me and help me become a better person.

The process of teamwork which I have experienced all this while with this group started
with goal setting. After our group was established, a goal for our team to attain was created.
The goal was to hold a webinar successfully with a great teamwork. Listening, communication
and trusting were the qualities that I needed. Getting along one another is also a process in
teamwork. It also made me appreciate the other members and I was able to discuss and seek
help whenever I face challenges. For an example, I got the help from my team member when I
faced difficulties in sharing the montages on that day. I believe that “united we stand, divided
we fall”. I also believe that it is wise to stick together and work with collaborations with others.
I did the write up to be posted on Facebook with the help from Encik Aziz and Fadhilah. We
did rehearsal for twice.
Unfortunately, my line connection wasn’t stable because I was using my mobile hotspot
to connect it with my laptop. So, I had to ask help from XiaoChen and Sharifah to help me to
share the montages of the moderator and the committee members. I had to prepare few
questions too, to be asked during the webinar. The questions need to be prepared just in case if
there are no questions from the participants from the Facebook on the actual day of the webinar.
Fadhilah and I worked together to come out with the questions. I then, submitted the questions
to the presenter (Tan). I worked together with my team and the group members to make the
day successful. I had to be the backup for Xiaochen and Sharifah. I also had to monitor
Facebook always, look out for the messages and questions from the participants. I used my
mobile phone to monitor Facebook live. So on that day, I was using two gadgets which are
laptop and mobile phone. I shared the link of the attendance on Facebook during QnA sessions.
I faced difficulties when few participants complained that they couldn’t get through the
attendance link. I managed to solve it by providing the link again. We had to post our live video
on Youtube. I managed to get the link and the password of the video from Encik Aziz. I tried
to download the live video few times, unfortunately I couldn’t as my data was too slow and the
connection was bad. In the end, Xiaochen managed to download and posted it on Youtube. It
was a good experience working with the team

A group talk was held this Thursday (June 17) and Dr. Nor Fadzleen was invited to
share our theme "challenges&opportunities of online supervision in the new norm". First, she
gave a detailed introduction to her career development. Then ask us about our first impression
of online supervision. Some people talk about collaboration, some talk about trust, and some
talk about communication.
Then she introduced us to three very important aspects of online supervision: advice,
support and growth. Later, I also introduced us to three well-known models in educational
supervision: clinical, peer coaching and developmental. We are very familiar with these three
models, because this semester we have studied the book "SuperVision and Instructional
Leadership A Developmental Approach" and have a deeper impression after listening to the
summary of Dr. Nor Fadzleen.
Next, she cited six main aspects of professional leadership in supervision, namely
relationship based practice, emotionally intelligent & reflective supervision, developing &
supporting excellent practitioners, system thinking, applying theory & evidence and
influencing the practice system. She gave us examples to explain each aspect, making us have
an intuitive and specific understanding of the leadership role in supervision.
After that, she showed a cartoon for everyone to discuss the challenges encountered in
the process of supervising the study and work. The scene in the picture is very similar to the
scene in our daily life. In the current critical situation where the epidemic is raging, children
take online classes at home and adults work at home. This model makes supervision of all
walks of life more difficult and troublesome than usual.
Therefore, the Dr. Nor Fadzleen summarized four challenges that will be faced by
online supervision: connectivity, time management, adaptability, and motivation. In the first
place is adaptability, which is indeed the case. The sudden epidemic broke everyone's routine
life. Learning to adapt to the new environment of life and work is a compulsory course for
everyone. In second place is time management. Since it is impossible to carry out various tasks
face-to-face, supervision has become more time-consuming and labor-intensive than before.
People have to adjust the original time allocation to ensure that the work can be completed in

accordance with the previous quality.
Subsequently, the doctor gave the proportion of students' daily computer time spent
during the COVID-19 lockdown. Obviously 23.7% of students spend 6-7 hours a day, and
20.4% of students spend more than 8 hours. . Students need to spend such a long time. As
supervisors and teachers, how do we allocate our time on PC? Dr. Nor Fadzleen introduced us
to two common learning modes in online teaching: synchronous and asynchronous, and
explained their advantages and disadvantages respectively. Then she told us what is needed for
supervision, such as attendance, learner progress, test results, and certification.
Finally, we also recommended some good online monitoring platforms such as MS
team, improve, edx, schoology and course monitoring tools such as padlet, Google form,
edupuzzle. These tools can be used as effective assistance, reduce the workload of supervisors
to a certain extent, and improve the efficiency and quality of supervision. It is a great honor to
invite such an experienced and easy-to-understand lecturer to teach us. Under the environment
where the current epidemic situation has become normal, this topic sharing is very timely and
effective in solving the questions and anxiety of the people in need.

First of all, I would like to thank Dr. Nisrin my lecturer for Education Supervision
lecturer for creating such a wonderful opportunity to organize a webinar like this. This is totally
a new experience for me. I learnt a lot in both ways either organizing process and also in the
webinar itself. The speaker Dr. Nor Fadzleen Saadon is really an experienced and best choice
our president in choosing her as the speaker. Various knowledge I gained through this webinar
will be very useful in my career and also my future. Online supervision was detailly explained
together with the models of educational supervision was introduced. Individual involved in this
online supervision should advice, support and focus on growth togetherness. During this
pandemic, many are facing these challenges in their daily life no matter what role they hold.
Together it was explained in very appropriate and interesting manner. Not only that, a study on
the time an individual spending online was exposed. In addition, various online platforms were
introduced and what kind of supervision report a teacher should focus on was discussed by the
speaker. I learnt that no matter what challenges we face in our life we should get back and look
forward on new opportunities so that we can overcome the situation.
Furthermore, in the process of organizing this webinar I learnt a lot about the google
form and also the automatic certificate preparation. I start to contact others for help and I gained
new knowledge in handling this role in the committee. It was great experience for me and I
hope it will be continued in future for other student so everyone obtains the chance in gaining
new experiences.

In this semester I took Education in Supervision subject. Through this semester I gained
a lot of informative information. First and foremost, I convey my special thanks to Dr.Nisrin,
my lecturer who provide an amazing opportunity to organize a great talk thorough this webinar
due to current issue, Covid 19. The successful organization of this talk was due
to the teamwork and cooperation of our group members. Dr. Nor Fadzleen Sadoon is an
excellent and experienced speaker for this webinar talk. In this talk, I gained a lot of important
information which is related to my career. Online supervision is becoming more and more
noticeable in challenges and opportunities. The importance of online supervision for teachers
and students and the challenges faced by teachers during teaching and learning in the new
norm. This online supervision not only focus for school teachers, but for education coordinator,
supervisor also included in this focus of the topic. As a result of this talk, I received some
additional input regarding online platforms with supervision, which can be beneficial for
teachers in a multitude of ways. I hope all the participants gain some benefit from this talk.

My overall reflection of what i have learned from webinar online supervision
challenges and strategies can't be over emphasized, I have learned many things and I already
started putting it in practice. My role in the seminar is promotion that is to promote the seminar
by sharing it in to difference groups through WhatsApp and Facebook. Before commencing
the seminar, I thought people cannot participate but to my surprised many people whom I am
not expected to be present attended the session and majority of them appreciated it.
During the seminar I encountered network problem which necessitated me ask my
fellow course mate to share my DUA which I suppose to recite it direct but as a result of
network problem, I have no option rather than to share it, I really filled worried about the
situation. However, based on the recording made during the session the objectives seminar has
been achieved, the participant learnt difference strategies of online supervision could be useful
to them in facing the challenges on online supervision.
One of the things I learnt and enjoyed over the seminar was working on multi-modal
compositions and another important thing that I have learned from it is working in a team not
as a group, because it influences my performance to work better, as a team you have the
support, respect and mutual understanding of each other. I really appreciate the experienced
acquired from the presenters and my fellow course mate. The approach use in the seminar will
help you to know the strategies of online supervision in your organization. The weakness I
experienced during the seminar is lack of good voice. The sound is not clearly coming out due
to lack of network.
Looking at the impact of the seminar in improving skills and knowledge the seminar
should be organized time to time to help our students with actionable strategies of online
supervision.
