HELLO MARvelous Mid-Atlantic Region Teens! I am honored to be the gatekeeper of your TLC giving and sharing experiences for this 70th Annual Mid-Atlantic Region Teen Leadership Conference (TLC). Teens, I am excited that you will be able to come together to create lasting relationships, learn more on topics of interest and provide service to the communities serviced by The Capital City, Durham and Fayetteville Chapters. The Jack and Jill of America Foundation and DoubleGood Popcorn have sponsored several unique community service opportunities during this conference. There will be opportunities to build bicycles, give the gift of reading which inspires a lifetime of learning, assist families whose children have no bed of their own to sleep on and provide youth in foster care with new bed linens for their stay with a new family. I hope that the opportunities for service at TLC 2023 will not only transform the children and families our efforts will impact, but that each of you will be transformed by recognizing that what you do for others truly makes a difference. The conference theme of “Melanin Magic” will show forth the power of your generation in making a difference for those that you will share the future of our great country with in your giving as you set the foundation for the future of Black America with your “each one, reach one” efforts. I also wish to commend the Regional Executive Board and fierce Mother Members of The Capital City, Durham and Fayetteville Chapters for the great lift in making this all come together. You will be in awe of the entire conference!!! Congratulations Class of 2023! It is crystal clear that you are equipped to weather life’s storms. Finally, I wish to extend a special thank you to Regional Teen Foundation Chair (RTFC) Taylor David for her energetic and passionate leadership in urging the Mid-Atlantic Region Teens to “Give In Pink & Blue” with her vision of giving more time to hands-on service and encouraging an increase in teen Foundation giving. Greetings to the MARvelous Mid-Atlantic Region, It is with mixed emotion that I welcome you to the 70th Annual Teen Leadership Conference hosted by the Capital City, Durham and Fayetteville Chapters. My personal journey as a mother member will transition this year as I complete my tenure. I celebrate my own daughter’s commencement along with the hundreds of other graduating seniors we will honor this year during our Rites of Passage and gala. The Mid Atlantic Jack and Jill family has been our village for almost 15 years and we could not be more grateful. My gratitude begins with my predecessors, Associates Loury Floyd and Donna Stoeling who provided a blueprint for working with our teens and providing the tools necessary to keep them engaged, even through the virtual years. It is my hope to leave the next Regional Teen Advisor a legacy worthy of the one left to me to build on. Regional Directors Tarcia N. Flemming and Chanda Douglas Ward, along with National Officers Claudia Curtis and Nichelle Levy, I thank you all for the incredible opportunities to stretch my leadership skills on a regional and national level in our beloved organization. I have gained as much as I have given in my journey because of the wonderful sister moms I have had an opportunity to serve with. To all of the chapter moms who poured into my child, I love and appreciate your commitment to creating an environment of true sisterly support. I do not take for granted knowing that when our children come together they are safe, challenged and encouraged in a way that allows them to discover the Melanin Magic within themselves. Finally, it has been an incredible privilege to work alongside three groups of Regional Teen Officers and Appointees as they grew in poise and confidence taking the risk to imagine and create together. The world is much better off with you in it. As each of you moves on, don’t forget to Work, Play and Live! Warrenetta C. Mann Mid-Atlantic Regional Teen Advisor Tarcia N. Our theme this year is Melanin Magic. One of Merriam-Websters’ definitions informs that magic is “an extraordinary power or influence seeming from a supernatural source”. This is the power and influence that dwells within our teens. In collaboration, the Fayetteville Chapter joined with the Capital City Chapter and Durham Chapter to co-host you during this year’s conference. Before the start of last summer, our teens and Chapter moms were preparing for the opportunity to greet you in our states’ capital. Throughout this year we have been captivated by the work of the Regional Teen Officers, especially our own amazing Alexis Bennett who has served well as Regional Teen Secretary. Beloved MAR Teens, from your expanding your financial knowledge and your philanthropic giving, to your action in civic responsibilities with letter-writing to support the Crown Act and the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act, and everything in-between, your commitment to your fellow teens and to society as young leaders have not gone unnoticed. Mid-Atlantic Region 70th Annual Teen Conference “Melanin Magic” JACK AND JILL PRAYER Our Father, make us better parents. Teach us to understand our children, to listen patiently to what they have to say and to answer all their questions kindly. Keep us from interrupting them, talking back to them and contradicting them. Make us as courteous to them as we would have them be to us. Give us the courage to confess our sins against our children and to ask of them forgiveness when we know that we have done them wrong. May we not vainly hurt the feelings of our children. Forbid that we should laugh at their mistakes or resort to shame and ridicule as punishment. Let us not tempt our children to lie or steal. So guide us hour by hour that we may demonstrate by all we say and do that honesty produces happiness. Reduce, we pray, the meanness in us. May we cease to nag; and when we are out of sorts, help us, O Lord, to hold our tongues. Blind us to the little errors of our children and help us to see the good things they do. Give us a ready word for honest praise. Help us to grow up with our children, to treat them as those of their own age; but let us not expect of them the judgments and convictions of adults. Allow us not to rob them of the opportunity to wait upon themselves, to think, to choose and make decisions. Forbid that we should ever punish them for our selfish gain. May we grant them all their wishes that are reasonable and have the courage always to withhold a privilege that we know will do them harm. Make us so fair and just, so considerate and companionable to our children that they will have genuine esteem for us. Fit us to be loved and imitated by our children. With these gifts, Dear God, give us calm and poise and self-control. Amen

National Hymn Samuel J. Brown, III Father, Philadelphia (PA) Chapter—12/15/87 (Lyrics only) Let’s work, let’s play, let’s live together is our Jack and Jill motto forever. We’re one big family of love with blessings from God up above. Gain our children’s trust, make them leaders we must, to believe in themselves, to achieve and excel. Let’s work, let’s play, let’s live together is our Jack and Jill motto forever. In our hearts we pray that everyday our motto’s fulfilled. Long live Jack and Jill.
