Mothers,

Welcome to the first edition of volume
three of our official publication, In The
MARgins where we highlight all that is
excellent in leadership and programming
in the MARvelous Mid-Atlantic Region.

In this 65th anniversary year, we
continue to show up for our children and
our communities with jubilance and awe-
inspiring brilliance which is evident in
these pages. We give life to “work, play

and living together” in harmony from the celebrations at National
Convention, Carole Robertson Day, Jack & Jill Day and Area Workday.

The highlight reel illustrated in this edition of In The MARgins, captures

the very essence of who we are and how the work we do shapes the
Mid-Atlantic Region. Our impact and imprint in our communities and
our power at work for all children are truly the foundation of our
excellence . Mothers, I thank you for your declaration to the dream and
your faithfulness to our values.

With many thanks, I dedicate this edition to the visionaries, you, who
have blazed the trail and carried the torch which truly sustains the
pathway begun by our prophetic Founders. As you enjoy this edition,
may you been inspired and motivated by all that is excellent in the Mid-
Atlantic Region.

In service for the children, 3

Greater Chapel Hill Chapter Chaplain

Elected to Board of Trustees

Dr. Ruthie Lyle

Chaplain, Dr. Ruthie Lyle, of the newly chartered Greater Chapel
Hill Chapter of Jack in Jill of America, Incorporated was elected
to the Board of Trustees governing the Trinity School of Durham
and Chapel Hill School. She is one of two persons of color on the
board; tasked with the principal duty of setting policy and
holding in trust the mission and viability of the school. She,
however, puts a particular focus on building community among
students of color and faculty. She strives to promote the
uniquely Christian vision of diversity, inclusion, and community
at Trinity. She is passionate about helping to ensure that a
Trinity-type-education is accessible to students of color and the
socio-economically disadvantaged. In some ways, her story
aligns with that of Esther, in that she believes she was placed in
this role by God “for such a time as this”, Esther 4:15.

Spartanburg Chapter

Father’s Auxillary Chair

Isaiah Davis

The Spartanburg Chapter is excited to share that Father Isaiah
Davis is our new Auxiliary. Isaiah recently accepted the role of

roles including time spent as a U.S. Army Captain and working
as a leader in retail distribution before coming to Grainger in
2014. For the last eight years, Isaiah has worked at several
different distribution center locations and his previous role as
an RSVP for Inside Sales. He also acted as President of
Grainger's African American BRG for two years where he
showed strong leadership and supported Grainger in navigating
multiple social issues during that time.

phenomenal charter mothers at Perry’s Steakhouse
and Grille in Raleigh. The ladies enjoyed a slideshow
of chapter highlights, a curated menu, and a slate of
unique gifts selected for the occasion. The festivities
continued nto the chapte

Summer Social

The Charlotte Chapter 'Preps 1 Group' had a
Back to School Kickoff outdoor pool party.
The Charlotte children met a USA Olympic
gold and silver medalist in men’s freestyle
swimming, Cullen Jones. He discussed

racial stereotypes within the
swimming community but also
sparked enthusiasm for our children
to compete in the sport on a grander
scale. Cullen shared his legendary,
world-record setting 4x100 freestyle
relay team with our youth, and
that
moment was priceless for this group.
Additionally, he spoke about water
safety and how important it is to take
swimming lessons to ensure the
mastery of this essential life skill! The
children had an icebreaker to help

them get more acquainted, played
water basketball and pool limbo,
fellowshipped, and left feeling empowered
that anything is possible! At the close of the
event, Cullen Jones took individual photos
with attendees, and everyone left feeling
truly energized.

Halloween Costume Collections

Coming off of a successful 2022 Teen Conference, the
Highflying Hampton Chapter hit the ground running in true
highflyer style for the 2022-23 program year. Our creative
Community Service Committee developed an initiative to
connect with the community in a unique and

meaningful way. The Committee partnered with
three local agencies that provide support to
mothers and children experiencing homelessness
or those who have left a domestic violence
situation. The Hampton Chapter created a
“Pumpkin Patch” (akin to a
n
Angel Tree) to collect donations
of Halloween costumes for
children supported by these
agencies. Chapter Mothers
selected pumpkins from the
“patch”and provided costumes to
meet the identified needs. Over 50
costumes were received during the
initial collection period. We will
collect costumes.
