FROM THE THOA OFFICE

Pets
A reoccurring problem that we are experiencing are pets that are
getting off the properties that do not have tags. It is essential that we
can identify the owner so that our guards do not waste time running
around looking for the owners.
Once again, that is time spent by the guards not doing what they are
intended for. We are also noticing that residents are walking their dogs
on the estate while off leashes. There is an area on the road reserve
specifically for allowing your dog’s off leashes.
Homeowners
Please remember to update your contact details should they change.
Should you change your email address or cell number please notify the
office on (011) 608-0835 or via email on [email protected]. You could
possibly miss out on important information sent out via email, particu-
larly now as it is almost time for our AGM.
Please also remember to notify our office if you rent out one or more
of your properties when new tenants are moving in. It is essential that
when using an estate agent you make sure they are registered. Regis-
tered estate agents notify new tenants of the rules and regulations for
Thornhill Estate.
Watercourse
We expect to start work on our watercourse this month. Three new
ponds will be reinstated between the Road Reserve and on the eastern
side of Thornhill Road.
Plinthing
Some of our residents may have noticed some work on our perimeter
fence along Johannesburg and Valley Roads. This is the last section
of fence that is being plinthed. It is expected to be completed by June,
which will see the entire perimeter fence plinthed. For those who may
not know, that will mean that concrete has been poured under the
entire perimeter fence as an added security measure.
AGM time coming up
It’s that time of year again and we are starting to prepare for the 2018
AGM.
This year we want to hold it on Sunday 17 June to comply with the new
requirements from the Community Schemes Ombudsman, so please
make a note in your diaries for that morning. We will be sending out a

formal notice and agenda by the 18 May which will also be available at
the office.
For those of you who would like to get more involved, or know of
someone who would, nominations for new Trustees will close on 27
May, so go and collect your nomination forms from the office or online
on our website www.thoa.co.za
If you have anything you wish to add to the agenda, it must be submit-
ted by 15 June at the very latest, otherwise it may not make it into the
proceedings.
Hope to see you there!

Goodbye Tango 1, John Seele
John started working for iMvula in
January 2000 and came to Thornhill
Estate as a patrolling guard in 2004. He
left Thornhill during 2009 to work as
an Armed Response Officer at another
site, but then returned to Thornhill late
in 2012 as Tango 1 and has been here
ever since.
John has resigned from iMvula and
accepted a position at a new compa-
ny which is not related to guarding.
This will allow him more time with his
family as it will not involve working shifts. John will be sorely missed
as residents got to know him well during the time he worked here. We
wish him well in his new venture.

THORNHILL RESIDENTS

Liam Stott: Thornhill’s own sporting star

Liam Stott has lived in Thornhill Estate his
whole life. His parents, Rob and Cindy were
the third people to buy and the first to move
into Thornhill Estate nearly 20 years ago.
Liam attends Jeppe High School for Boys, the
oldest public school in Johannesburg and he
is currently in Grade 11.
His love for water sports started at a young
age. He started swimming for a club, was
chosen for Eastern Gauteng Aquatics and
obtained a Level 3 time in breaststroke. He
discovered water polo in Grade 7, and has
been selected for Central Gauteng Schools
water polo ‘A’ Team every year since then.
Last year, 2017, he was the youngest player to
be selected for the Central Gauteng team to
participate in the SA Schools Currie Cup Tour-
nament, playing in the ‘B’ Team. This year, he
was again selected, but for the’ A’ Team.
After the Water Polo Interprovincial Tour-
nament in December 2017, where his u16
team won Gold, he was selected to play for
the South African u17 Water Polo Team. The
team competed in the EU Nations Tourna-
ment in Prague recently, where they won the
tournament overall and returned with Gold
Medals.
Liam was selected to play for Jeppe’s 1st
Water Polo Team when he was only in Grade
9, and he has been awarded Full Water Polo
colours at school, as well as Half Colours for
swimming.

Not only is he a great water polo player, but
he succeeds on the rugby field too. He was
selected to play for the Golden Lions u16 ‘A’
Team last year, competing at the Grant Kho-
mo Week Tournament. Liam is also a Top Ten
pupil at Jeppe and he was recently awarded
Full Academic Colours.

THORNHILL BUSINESS

Neil Boonzaier: Consolidated Auto

Consolidated Auto, based in Boksburg, is the third biggest Ford Dealership
in South Africa. We are also fortunate to be one of the very few privately
owned motor dealerships, and are part of the Eastern Cape Motor Group,
where we have branches in East London, Port Elizabeth, King William-
stown, Port Alfred and Uitenhage. The franchises we have in the Group are
Ford, Mazda, Nissan, Volvo, Jaguar and Landrover.
Consolidated Auto has always had a philosophy of being different to every-
one else. Hence why some years back, as a resident of Thornhill Estate for
18 years, I started the project of booking in Ford vehicles for service, col-
lecting and delivering the vehicles from our resident’s homes, while leaving
them with a courtesy car, if required. This has proved very convenient, and
successful, to the extent that
we have managed to take
this service level over into
our sales department, and
have been fortunate to sell
and deliver a number of new
and used vehicles to our
residents.
Six years ago Consolidated
Auto got into a partnership
with the Lions Rugby. What
started as a small project has
grown to the extent that we
sponsor 16 vehicles to players and management. It is a partnership that is
an absolute privilege to be associated with SA rugby’s most successful team
currently, and to have players like Warren Whitely, Franco Mostert, Jaco Kri-
el, Andries Coetzee and Ruan Dreyer, along with head coach, Swys de Bruin,
all on board. All of my 85 sponsored and company vehicles have ours and
Lions branding on, just in case you see them in the estate.
Should I be afforded the opportunity to be of service with any motor relat-
ed info, I would appreciate the call.
Please also join us on June 2 when we will be launching two new models.
We will also be holding a competition where you can win 4 tickets to the
Springboks vs England rugby test at Emirates Ellis Park. We will be hosting
the Harley Davidson club along with some of the Lions rugby players.
Take pride and care in your motor vehicle, as it is your second biggest in-
vestment, and she will not let you down.
For more information, call Neil on 083 443 5443

THORNHILL SOCIAL

Thornhill Social Committee

I have lived in Thornhill Estate for a little
over 9 years, together with my husband
and four children. I love spending time
with my family and taking the kids to the
many parks dotted around the estate and
riding bikes with them.
Being part of such a close-knit commu-
nity is important to me and all the social
events held in Thornhill in the past have
led to many great friendships. I believe we
live in one of the most beautiful places in
Joburg, with beautifully kept gardens and
parks and friendly security and staff. Get-
ting to meet your neighbours and make
new friends is an added bonus!
I’m really excited to be heading up the so-
cial committee and would love to welcome anyone who has a little spare
time to assist in making these events as successful as they have been in
the past, on board.
Send a WhatsApp message to Heather Levy on 082 331 8024.
