.
Right now, as lockdown begins to ease we may allow our-
selves a moment or too to reflect on how we can:
Increase our Impact; Expand our Reach, Enhance partici-
pant engagement and increase our ability to adapt.

From how we do our Rotary business, to adopting new
technologies in online meetings, contactless payments
and virtual fundraisers, Rotary is changing.

Virtual vocational exchanges and RYLA pushes
the boundaries of what we can do in the new
world. Bigger and better outcomes.

We are only just beginning to see the opportuni-
ties that lie ahead.

My best wishes for the year ahead.

Feel the Energy at Rotary Convention 2021

Right now is a great time to register for the 2021 Rotary International Convention in
Taipei, Taiwan. Our district goal set by myself and Convention Promotion
Coordinator PDG Alistair Marquis of 12 attendees has been reached already. This
exceeds any of our attendances at previous Asian Conventions.
We are guaranteed a very big turnout from those in South East Asia and it will be a
fantastic event but one thing is missing—you.
We will try and arrange a district get together in Taipei, perhaps so we can sample
some of the street food widely available in the city or go for Chinese hot pot? If your
idea of Chinese food is lemon chicken and fried rice from the local takeaway you
are in for a shock/treat.

Enjoy the internationality of a Rotary Convention and take the opportunity to
network with like minded individuals. These are just some things you cannot do
virtually on zoom.

Basic Chinese lessons will be offered in advance for those who want to say a few
words to the locals. Though they will probably laugh, they will appreciate your
efforts.

Falkirk: Expanding Our Reach - Young Carers

The Falkirk Club first approached the Young Carers management team at the Falkirk
and Clackmannanshire Carers Centre in the summer of 2016 and as a result spon-
sored two young carers on the Challenge Enterprise weekend that autumn.
Subsequently the Club sent four other young carers to the Challenge Enterprise
weekends in 2017 and 2018. From 2017 to 2019 the Club sponsored six young carers
on the Rotary Youth Leadership Award scheme at Ardeonaig Lodge, South Loch Tay,
with one young man winning the John Mair award for his progress during his stay.
The Club also organised and contributed to a consortium of four Rotary Clubs, Alloa,
Falkirk, Grangemouth and Larbert, and the Grangemouth office of Drummond Laurie,
chartered accountants, to send ten young carers on five-day Ocean Youth Trust voy-
ages out of Oban in 2018 and 2019.
We planned to continue our support for the young carers in 2020 but the Covid-19
crisis ruled that out. The Club along with Drummond Laurie have also organised two
charity Swimarathons in 2019 and 2020 and the Young Carers Project has been one of
the beneficiaries of these events, receiving of the order of £4000.

The Falkirk Herald published the story in a recent issue (see below).

Rotary Citation 2020-21

Firstly, congratulations to
the eleven recipient clubs
(20%) of the 2019/20 cita-
tion. As for this year, clubs
must submit goals and
achievements via Rotary
Club Central (RCC). You
don’t do RCC? Well, no cita-
tion.

FAQs
How many clubs will be able to gain a citation in 2021?
All clubs—it is not as difficult as some may imagine

Why bother with the citation?
Rotarians (even those that claim it doesn’t matter) love to be recognised. It’s
simply a mark of excellence or a well done certificate. It celebrates success.

My club hasn’t increased our membership this year so we can’t get a citation,
right?
No. The citation does not have any mandatory goal such as increase your club
membership. If you are a strong, vibrant club carrying out numerous service
activities then that will be recognised with a citation.

Where do I find out more about the 2020/21 citation?

First presentation to a
Rotary Club in 2020/21
was an unusual one for
me as it was not to a club
in District 1020.

I was honoured to be
asked to address the

Nigeria recently.

I let them know that we
