Ernie’s influence is inexorably
imbued upon all of us who
pursue the art of black

photography. He was a great
inspiration to Christian Vizl,
who in turn was my greatest inspiration
for monochrome imagery. In his lifetime

through the generations of underwater
photographers, whether they are
aware of it or not. All artists wish to be
immortalised through their work and
Ernie, without a doubt, will be one of
the few to achieve it.
