Bill Gomory, President | [email protected]

Let me start by welcoming Martin Shapter to our Club as our new Food and Beverage
Director. He comes to us with a strong background in both dining room service and
kitchen operations. Please take the time to introduce yourself to Martin and make him feel
at home.

Things behind the scenes things are running smoothly. Committees are up and running.
A special thanks to our members that choose to serve. Long Range Planning has been
especially active. By the time of this newsletter, they will have met three times and will be
meeting twice a month with the goal of completing a long term plan prior to year-end.
There will be many opportunities for you to participate in this process. The first of which is the survey you have
received and hopefully completed. We are starting with the big picture aspirations for what our Club can be, and
then we will be working on actions that can turn those aspirations into reality. Your responses are critical to the
process. So if you haven’t yet filled out the survey please do so.
The Club performance through 4 months continues to track ahead of plan. I will be sending out a letter updating
our performance through the first half of our fiscal year, during the month of April. I can’t overstate the relationship
of continued growth in membership to the long term success of our Club. An important part of that is welcoming
new members and making them feel like part of the family. We can never have too many friends.
Thanks again for your support and friendship. These are exciting times at ACC.

From the GM

Charlie Nolette, General Manager [email protected]
The Last of its Kind.

So far, 2019 has been off to a great start. We have projects going on around the

club like painting, cleaning up some trees around property to make things safer, and

getting quotes and contractors lined up so that when we have a break in the weather,

we can take care of some small projects.

Several projects that the team has been working on deal with operations behind the

scenes, and unless you are on a committee you probably wouldn’t notice. There has been a

lot of work put into having committee charters and goals laid out so that each committee

can advise and assist the respective department head in gathering ideas and input on what

the membership likes or dislikes. This coupled with some action items that came from the Board of Directors

retreat at the end of last year will keep ideas moving forward and provide for meaningful work to be done.

This type of work that isn’t always flashy or exciting is important stuff that rolls into the category of governance.

As I mentioned, not a flashy name and often the work is not out in the open to see, however the outcomes are.

This is where the real work of your Board takes place. Creating policies and practices that helps to provide stability

and vision is crucial to your Club being financially stable, but also growing and thriving as a fun place to be with a

unique sense of belonging.

As one who belongs to ACC, you are really more than a member, you are an owner. When someone owns

something, they often treat it much differently from someone who is renting or borrowing. An owner is also

much different from a potential owner. The way in which we communicate with you as members is different from

those who are potential members. You are “inside the family” so to speak and therefore are privileged to hear and

see more about what we do than someone who is not a member. Because of this, we are making some changes to

how we do our newsletters as well as some of our web presence. In the coming month we will be making some

changes to the public side of our website. This will have no impact on how you use the website. It will however

give us a new look with appropriate information organized in a way that will hopefully excite people to want to

learn more while preserving the exclusivity of your “ownership”. cont’d

From Tee To Green

by Peter Horn,CGCS • Director of Golf Course and Grounds [email protected]

We had a nice week for golf in early February as the temperatures were in the 60’s and no
rain. By the third week we went back into a wet period. It’s hard to get much done on the
course with this type of weather. On the days we were able to get out we were able to get a
lot accomplished, with tree work being our main focus. We were able to remove some trees
on the right side of ten and the left side of one to make way for seeding and sod work this
spring. We repaired areas on six and nine that were in need of some sod, mainly in the walk
paths.
When weather confined us to the shop area, we worked on gettimg equipment ready for the upcoming season.
We also painted and touched up tee markers and ball washers. When it warms up a bit more we will paint our
benches.
We have sprayed the poa grass in the fairways and will get around the green complexes when it begins to
warm up. We will also start putting out a pre-emergent chemical for summer weeds as soon as we can get some
consistent dry weather. Hopefully, spring will come early this year and bring us some good golfing weather.

Tennis

by Scott Schofer | Director of Tennis | [email protected]

to watch some great tennis played by our ACC juniors. High school and middle school
practices and matches will be played between 4:00pm and 6:00pm on various weekdays.
Increased activity is great exposure for our Club. Please call ahead for court reservations
or the ball machine, especially during the afternoon hours.

Fitness

by Matt Sommer, MS, CSCS, CES, PES • Director of Fitness | [email protected]

Did you know that as we age we progressively lose muscle strength and muscle mass?
Studies in recent years have shown that strength training can reverse the loss of muscle
function and the deterioration of muscle structure. Strength training improves functional
ability and health by increasing muscle mass and strength and also improving bone mineral
density. According to a review in the British Medical Journal, strength training also improves
balance. Since balance is a primary risk factor for falls and osteoporosis related fractures,
strength training may therefore prevent osteoporosis related fractures, one of the main
sources of physical disability and a major obstacle to independent living among the elderly.
Although exercise has not been proven to prevent falls, there is data to show that people who have been and
continue to be physically active are only half as likely to suffer a hip fracture than those who do not. Ideally,
strength training should be done three days a week. Each muscle group should be exercised in 1-3 sets of 10-15
repetitions in each session. But, any type of regular physical activity improves bone strength and reduces the
chance of falls.
If you are interested in learning more about how you can increase your strength and balance while decreasing
your chance of falling, please contact me for more information on some of our new programs we have developed
specifically for you.
As always, please feel free to contact me if you have any questions, concerns, or compliments. My door is
always open.
