It is officially the holiday season in North Carolina. One day it is 65 degrees, and the

next it is well, you know…cold!! During the month of December the course will be open
and available for play, so come on out and take advantage on those nice days. Our fitness
center and tennis courts are available for use as well. Be sure to call ahead to check on
frost delays or court availability. And it goes without saying that you must come in to the
1946 Grill for some delicious food, desserts and drinks! We have some exciting events
planned this holiday season, so be sure to check your calendars and join us for some
holiday festivities around ACC.

As always, remember to send referrals my way. You are our best advocates, so bring
those friends out over the holidays and let them see what the ACC family is all about.
I am thankful to be a part of ACC and work with a great team that strives to make ACC the best Club around.
Our team is working extremely hard on completing an exciting events calendar for 2020 and we look forward to
offering new ideas to our Members. If you have any questions or ideas that you would like to share, please do not
hesitate to contact us. I wish every member of the Club a very Happy, Healthy and Safe Christmas season!.

See you at the club soon, Jennifer

that special gift to arrive. We have great selections from Peter Millar, Dunning, FootJoy,
Holderness & Bourne, Turtleson and more. Let the Professional Staff help you find that perfect club for your bag
by signing up for a complimentary fitting on wedges, putters, drivers and irons.

Scott Schofer Director of Tennis Tennis
[email protected]

Stefan and I want to thank everyone that came out to the courts this season for
lessons, clinics, USTA League play, Men’s Night, ball machine, social & family play, and of
course . . . Pickleball! We appreciate your support to our program and look forward to an
exciting 2020 racquet sports season. During the ‘off-season’ we recommend getting into
the fitness center for some strength training or cardio workouts. This will add power and
conditioning to your game. Contact Matt or Kenny for more information.

Additionally, if you have a nagging shoulder, elbow, neck or back injury, give massage
a try. I have personally started incorporating massages into my off-court tennis training
and it has made a difference. Aside from relaxation and recovery, massage also stretches
the muscles to aid in healing inflammation. Contact Elizabeth for more information.
As the weather changes, we will close all of the clay courts (1-3 & 4-5) for the winter season. The hard courts
(6-8) will remain open for tennis and pickleball (weather permitting). Please call the Tennis Shop to reserve a
court, the ball machine, or to check on court conditions.
Always at your “service”,

Scott

Thanksgiving has passed and Christmas is right Christmas Hours
around the corner, marking the beginning of a Christmas Eve

5-week holiday celebration that often spells doom 7:00am - Noon

for your health and fitness plan. Along with those Closed

celebrations will come headlines and news stories Christmas Day

highlighting the holiday weight gain that thousands

of people experience every year. Ignore them, and New Year’s Hours
Don’t think about weight gain this holiday season.
instead think about celebrating with friends and family while simultaneously New Year’s Eve
enjoying the sensation of living in a body that’s healthy. What you do on 7:00am - 6:00pm
Thanksgiving Day or Christmas Day isn’t your major concern. It’s all the
other days in between that will determine if your holidays are healthy. Closed
New Year’s Day

Overeating on Thanksgiving Day isn’t going to get you out of shape.

Just like doing things right one day isn’t going to get you in shape. It’s all the little things on a daily basis that

determine if you are moving forward fitness or away from it.

Here are a few tips for surviving the holidays, increasing your energy and reducing your stress, this

season and all year long.

1. Take time for yourself. Although spending time with friends and family is essential, it’s also important to

have at least five minutes to yourself to relax. Try practicing a deep breathing exercise when you feel

stressed out.

2. Don’t set unrealistic goals. Aim to exercise 20 minutes a day instead of an hour. You’ll be sure to get at

least 20 minutes of exercise per day without feeling disappointed if you do not complete an hour.

3. Enlist a friend or family member to exercise with you. Walking and talking with a friend can be a great

way to burn extra calories and reduce your stress level.

4. Don’t try to lose weight or stick to a restrictive diet this holiday season. If you enjoy your favorite

foods in small portions, you’ll feel more satisfied. Trying to stay away from certain foods may make you

feel deprived, which may cause you to eat more than you intended to.

5. Create new, more active traditions. Instead of throwing a dessert or cocktail party, try an alternate

holiday event.

6. Drink plenty of water. Although the cold weather may make you less inclined to grab a glass of water,

it is just as important in the winter as it is during the summer.

7. Spread out meals. Don’t feel like you have to eat everything at once. Try eating dinner early and then

taking a walk before sitting down for dessert.

8. Don’t overdo it with alcohol or caffeine. These stimulants will only cause you more grief in the end by

adding to your feelings of stress.

9. Don’t aim for perfection, and enjoy imperfections. There is no such thing as the perfect party or the

perfect decorations or the perfect way to spend the holidays.

10. Laugh. Laughing is a great tension reliever. It burns calories, reduces stress, and usually means that you

are enjoying yourself.

The ACC Fitness Center Staff wishes you and your family a happy, healthy, and safe Christmas and New
Year.!
