DEFINITION

Procedure text is a text that is designed to
tell or to show how something is achieved
trough a sequence of action or steps. It shows
how people perform different processes in a

sequence of steps.

Structure of procedure text

1. Goal

The goal can be the title of the text. It also can
be an introductory paragraph. For example:
How to start the computer. It is mentioned the
purpose in the main heading or the title of the
text. This part is called the goal of the
procedure text.

2. Materials 3. Steps

In this part, we have to indicate In this part we have to indicate
what we will need to use or how something is accomplished
operate something. It means through a sequence of action
that we can know our material or steps. It means that we can
in this section. In the manual know the steps to operate
text there is no material
needed or used because the something in this section. 5

Types of procedure text

There are two (3) types of procedural texts:
1.Texts that tell how something works or
how to use instructions or operation

2.Texts that show tips about doing
something
3.Texts that show how to make something;

Social function of procedure text

The purpose of procedure text is to tell or show how
something can be done, for example: recipes, the way
to use washing machine, rules for games, science
experiments, or the way to operate computer. The most
of our daily activities are related with procedures.
Therefore, we should know and understand what a
procedure text is, how we can practice and use it.

Linguistic features / Grammatical 8

1.Using Simple Present Tense
2.Using an imperative form, for example : Switch on the main power,

wait for sometime, etc.
3.Using mainly of temporal conjunction (connective) for examples to

indicate sequence especially in spoken text like, first…. or firstly…. ,
second…. or secondly…. And to indicate sequence in written text
such as : then…, after that…., etc
4.Using action verb (material process) For example: take, switch, cut,
etc
5.Using adverbial to clarify the time, place, or manner. For example :
wait for fifteen minutes, etc
